  1. Hey Gilles, I've been doing just that with some of my work.

I don't have the space on my site right now, but a while back I posted a clip of my character P.O.McKnuckels jogging through a hallway with the camera flying all over the place.

I used A:M for the character work and another 3d application for the backgrounds.

the theorey of setting this up is pretty simple, but the practice is a little daunting if you don't keep track of things.

Basically in a nutshell I animated everything in Hash, made an identical set in the other 3d app and exported Hash camera data in bvh format - imported that into the the camera of the other app , layerd the Hash character video as a front roto in the other app and things worked just great.

I'm leaving a lot of stuff out like I had to write a program to flip the data of the camera app due to z coordinates being reversed from hash to the other 3d app.

My point.... you can combine the 3d apps without this match mover software.

  2. Hey Jim, I'm totally lovin the character! I think the fold in the hip area on the dress is just the best. I don't know so simple but so effective.

My only crit from the first image, no the three stacked side by side....

what'shappening with the shoulder? How are you controlling this? It seems like you are just not allwoing any z axis rotation in the joint. Comparing to the latest 3 side by side images.

    Anyhows... killer!

  3. Carl, I watched the surprise movie several times! It's great! Smooth!

I don't have any critique for you really, except maybe try take the action even further. Like try and make him bunch up even more upon shock then explode out even more - like more back arch. See what that looks like.

I think it's cool little character, like could be the discovery channels new mascott!

    good work!

  4. Hey Forum, I was just wondering what people were finding to be the best setting for motion blur.

I used the standard blur settings @ 20% and my model dissappeared randomly throughout the animaiton. The blur wasn't that good in the places it didn't dissapear from either.

So I'm trying the blur again at 20% with multi pass on at 16x16 passes.

Anyone have any experience with this?

  5. Hey guys, I'm using v11, I know I shouldn't expect everything to work right just yet...... but,

what happend to action ease? Is it no longer there? Or maybe it's there and I can't find it.

    Anyone? Bueller?

  6. Hi Graham. Here's what I do with the porcelain...

    1. open the porcelain material in your project so it shows up in the materials folder.

    2. Upon making sure that all your normals are pointing in the same direction, drop your porcelain material onto your model in the project workspace.

    3. render.... it should be nice and smooth.

3a. there is a setting in the materials option(under Surface) in the project workspace..... at the bottom, called Normal Wieght... you can set it from 0 to 100%

  7. Hey Jim, thanks for the note! Yeah, I agree. Porcelain does have it's worth. I use to post process layers of the same frame to smooth the models out. Not necessary anymore.

John K, thanks for the reply! I'm totally backing the new features I'm seeing with the prog! I'm getting myself ready to start production on McKnuckels first short film. So, hopefully you'll get to see more of him soon!

    thanks for replies

  8. Mike Lium, I'm damn handsome!!!!! Well, that's what I tell myself anyway, still waiting to hear that from other people!!!!

Christina, thanks, McKnuckles is a hard case. I'm getting myself geared up to start working on a short called "the call of duty" I don't expect to have it finished for a year or two. With the new hair, I'm thinking about adding a flash back to a young McKnuckles with a full head of hair. Really backing the hair thing.

  9. Mike Lium, I just gave him basically the same haircut have! Maybe we are long lost cousins!

Rogelio, I used the amazing tools that come with the new hair. YOu can lengthen or shorten individual areas. Also you can comb the hair. Genious!!!!! This is the best addition I've seen so far. And the hair seems to render pretty quick.

  10. So, after seeing that commercial last night, I downloaded the v11 and started fooling around with the hair controls. Oh my gosh, I am truely impressed. I'm thinking that McKnuckles might be getting a new hair style!!!!

Great work hash people! Things look like they are really taking shape with the next version of AM

    Excited!

  11. Hey, while switching betweenthe yankee game and boomerrang last night I caught a commercial for that Tak game that Avalanche made. it had that gorrilla that uses the new hair features in v11.

It looked great! Anyone else see it, at the end the gorilla gets all the hair blown off him with some sort of explosion?

    Anyhows, it looked pretty good!
