  1. I know I am coming in WAY late on this thread...but Ive been thru all this shmeal, and here is what I have learned.

EVERYBODY is looking for a utility that renders/converts/etc. 2d/3danimations to the FLASH format...right? What you will find is that once you have all your frames with all that detail that as an artist you tend to generate, by 'vectorizing' this art you are also 'posterizing' (limited color palette) thus compromising image quality for what? Faster downloads?

It is 2004. Anyone who still has a 56k modem should not be catered to.

Okay, you vectorized 200 frames of animation, LOVE the posterization effect, and it will go into a flash SWIFF at only 250k! Oooh, too bad it plays back real choppy.

Here's the alternative I bought into for 30 buxx.

http://www.wildform.com/ I am talking about their 'lite' app...or flixlite $30

YOUR 200 frames of 15 fps animation (posterized) at 250k with questionable audio synch will FLIXLITE into a 30 fps (double) bitmapped (yes, sorenson compressed but you get to keep your gradients!) with PERFECT audio synch and FULLY importable to the FLASH timeline via the use of the VCF (flash importable) file format. WITH SIMILAR or less file size!

This has been MY workaround to putting MY 3D in MY flash pages for 2 years now.

The only regrettable caveat is that, being bitmapped, it is NOT scaleable. However I find... the Flash playback engine, when scaled to larger sizes, plays-back compressed bitmapped images easier(faster) than it does vector (mathematical/processor-based) animations. Less calculations, better audio synch.

Lotta good all this rhetorhic has done ME tho- STILL livin in a van down by the river! Gnight.

  2. Very Nice work. We were JUST talking about using animation for historical re-enactments, a GREAT use of the medium. Didn't I read that the Wrights got 12 feet off the ground? I'm sure there are not a lot of records, so libertys are yours. A local (Detroit, MI-Dale Myers) animator recently used Lightwave to reenact the Kennedy assasination by modelling a complete Neely Plaza and matching frame by frame to the Zapruder film, he was able to convincingly surmise that Oswald was a lone gunman. His animation was featured on the networks during that anniversary. A suggestion would be to have your camera position end by matching the famous photo from the actual day, heck even include the photographer! Just ideas. Once again, nice work! Matt Campbell

I had a similar problem with v10.5 N getting to the 'PLEASE WAIT' screen then crashing as the app started to appear. I solved it by giving-up on 10.5N and reverting back to 10.5M I asked support for help and they suggested I do a full UNinstall and then go thru the 'registry' and remove any A:M related files. My problem is, I don't know what the registry even is or where to find it.

I am on a PC using windows XP if anyone can talk me down.

  4. Hey all- Long time 'lister'...1st time 'forumer'. Let me know if I'm coloring outside the lines.

My V10.5 went away...as in wont boot. I've restarted, reinstalled etc. It loads the 'please wait' and then I see the cartoon pic...and it just goes away. So as a quick fix I downloaded V11, and started playing...

1st thing I did was play with hair. I made a ball, made a group on the ball for a scalp/hairline...applied the hair matierial, played with settings such as length etc, made an action to make the ball 'shake its hair' brought all into a comp. I can see the hair but when I render there is NO hair, although it is indicated in the shadows on the ball and ground. I made sure (render hair) in render settings is ON.

What am I missing? Also what can I try to get v10.5 to boot?

  5. I like the spy stuff...very interesting. If you are interested I have a .mdl file of an actual '3D scanned' 03 Mustang. We used it in Maya for Ford and I experimented with transferring it to A:M and it worked quite nicely. Just the body, needs wheels and glass, very accurate.

My plan was (until a monster job came along) to cartoon it up like an old 'weird-O's cartoon.

I once had a 66 2+2 fastback, fantastic styling, terrible mechanics. I also had a 74 bomb, great mileage and very dependable but a rustbucket. I guess I am a Mustang fan.

This forum is pretty neat. Thanks for letting me look thru your files.
