  1. http://www.hash.com/vm

This is a complete course based on the TAOA:M manual- there is a printable course outline, even introductory lessons on the History of Animation and the History of Computer Graphics- Not only can you teach a class using these materials, you can certainly use them to get up to speed using A:M in the shortest amount of time-

  2. For those of you who don't know, (wondering what a wondercon is?) WonderCon is SanDiego ComicCon's (http://www.comic-con.org/) baby sister, and it is held in San Francisco every year. SanDiego ComicCon is every comic/anime/scifi/fantasy fanboy/girl's mecca, and WonderCon is a smaller toned down version of the same. Since I definitely fall into the comic/anime/scifi/fantasy fanboy category, doing WonderCon was more than 'just another trade show' for me!

This type of show always treats Hash well from a business perspective- (hey, where else would you find a higher concentration of people with stories to tell?!)

A successful show is definitely a positive, but the highlight for me is being able to shop for every imaginable comic, trade paperback, manga novel and genre toy ever made! There are also many celebrities on hand, and I always get to meet one or two that are noteworthy- this year I got to meet Mike Mignola, creator of HellBoy (He's really a cool guy!) There was also much titilating talk about '300' (man, I can't wait!)

I'm worn out, spent too much money on toys and books, but it was a great experience, both personally, and for Hash, Inc.!

Oh, Dhar, thanks for coming out to support us, and thanks to all those who purchased new copies or upgraded!

  3. a bit more vista /OpenGL info...

-nVidia has a full, robust OpenGL implementation for GeForce 6/7/8 series cards in their very latest drivers

-ATI has implemented OpenGL for the X series cards, however I'm not 100% sure if OpenGL performance will be as fast as it was in WINXP

-there will not be Vista OpenGL support for older ATI/nVidia cards

-it's highly unlikely integrated video chips will support OpenGL in Vista

  4. Actually- it would be Powell's Technical Books that would have the animation books! (just down the street from the regular Powell's) I'm definitely up for 'chaperoning' a trip to Powell's- it's one of my favorite places in the world- we'll see if we can't fit it in to the overall plan so all those interested can go!

  5. Heath and I just returned from TCEA in Austin, Texas. TCEA was one of the first school shows we ever did- This was our fourth consecutive year. It's always been a very good show, and this year was no exception! The highlight was sitting in on a workshop called "Animating Into The Future" featuring none other than (you guessed it) Animation:Master! The workshop was organized by Stacy Walker who is a teacher at Roach Middle School in Frisco, TX. This was a big indicator for me of the success we are having in schools and it was extremely rewarding to witness first hand! Frisco ISD is in their second year of teaching a year long course using Animation:Master in all six of their middle schools, and next year, they plan to expand the program to include all of their high schools! Because we've been doing this show for a few years now, we have a HUGE number of schools in Texas teaching A:M, and it's really cool to get all the positive feedback from teachers who are having sucess teaching A:M!

When not at the show spreading the gospel of A:M, it's always fun to go "spread a little gospel" in the evenings on Austin's notable "Sixth Street"- If you are ever in Austin, don't miss it! Also, if you are up for a some political humor and magic, check out Esther's Follies.

  6. Remember that TW is supposed to be "tense", so the gestures need to be small, tense like.

I disagree- his dialog sounds dreamy- even wistful to me... TM doesn't really strike me as a "tense" guy either...

  7. CES is touted as being "the worlds largest consumer technology tradeshow". 2007 was it's 40th year, and reported attendance was a record breaking 140,000 people, the show was made up of 1.8 million square feet of exhibit space, and 2700 exhibitors.

CES is always a good show for HASH, definitely being the best show for follow up contacts. We met with many interesting people; distributors from many countries interested in Animation:Master, press people, and even the managing director of Amiga, Inc. stopped by! (Yes, the Amiga is apparently still alive?)

This year, with the demise of E3, they tried to attract a new exhibitor segment; the "gaming specific" exhibitors, including Maximum PC's Dream Machine Tour. This didn't seem to go over so well as the area was mostly deserted- It could have been location though, because this fits with my impression of overall attendance at the Sands.

Including meeting existing A:M users, and making new ones, which is always cool, personal highlights were seeing "Reel Big Fish" in the House of Blues (James worked his charms on the ticket girl and we got in for free!) and meeting one of the frag dolls (www.fragdolls.com) on the flight home.

  8. Sorry, Dion- I never got your entry- I guess it got caught in my spam filter- I'll add it to the other entries, but I'm afraid the voting is about wrapped up-

I always send a confirmation when I receive an entry, so hopefully folks will keep after me if they don't get that confirmation when they send an entry!

  9. It's been a busy week, so this is a very EARLY WIP!

first pass at lipsync, and initial poses-

I think the lipsync needs to be toned down substantially, and I could use suggestions for good "secondary" actions for Woot and Scarecrow...

  10. Heath's first pass thread here

    my thoughts on this shot:

Nick is looking up after finishing an axe swing, so I incorporated downward/rebound motion in the shoulders as Robert suggested, changed the camera angle, lost the wink and changed the head motion all to increase "shyness" in the look-

dunno if it's "finished", but it's definitely different!

Heath did a great job keeping his keyframes nice and clean so it was easy to make changes!
