  1. Maybe I read it in a science fiction novel somewhere. Possible called a "waldo"?

    Hey, Vern

You're probably thinking of Robert A Heinlein's story "Waldo" about a guy with a muscle-wasting disease who invents remote-controlled hands called "Waldoes".

They, however, are controlled by a human limb, and so "Waldo" is probably not the term you are searching for.

  2. HOWEVER, if you are an animation person, and animation is the most important thing to you, and you accept that we know what we are doing, then Animation:Master IS for you. You can say, "I could probably model or render this in some other program - but I'm going to use Animation:Master!"

    Martin,

I agree that your product is a fantastic animation tool. I bought it because I wanted to use it to animate, not because I wanted to model.

The drawback to this is that, because A:M will not import models from other sources, the number of models that can be used when animating with it is limited.

The solution would be a greater resource pool of spline and patch models available on the internet (as there are poly models)..either free or for sale. Because most people use poly's however, the number of resources wll always be limited.

If a poly import plug-in were available, AnimationMaster would surely be received by a larger audience...I understand the difficulties associated with such a plug-in, however, and realise that it may not be feasible.

Maybe a bigger pool of models could be made available to users somehow?

  3. Fred,

I'd be interested to know how you got those 3ds models into A:M.....whenever I've tried, I've just ended up with a mess.

I would definitely support better import plug-ins in A:M!

    Thanks

  4. Amar,

Thank you for your demonstration, it has taught me a lot and I'm sure it will be helpful to many people on the forum. I know I've got a steep learning curve ahead, but you've helped get me started.

Yves, thanks for the tip on the camera focal length....very useful to know.

Right, I'm off to lay down some splines.

  5. if u post the pic the side and the front view I'll lay down the spline to help you understand how to do this....sort of like creating a template.

    Thanks, guys...you're helping me lots.

Amar, these are the front and side views.

  6. OK, I'm trying to get to grips with the patch modelling. Once I start laying down the CP's, it's like a juggling act to get four-point patches without destroying the ones already there.

Could someone pleeze tell me if I am going about this the right way, or if I need to scrub this and start again.

When I see other people's works (just seen Ken H's start of a face model), they seem so neat compared to mine.

    Thanks for taking a look...

  7. Smudge,

You've done some really great work here. Your project looks ambitious but it's obvious from your hard work so far that you can manage it.

    Well done.

  8. I can't model in A:M...every time I try I end up with a mess, and that's even when using rotoscopes.

I have polygonal models that I want to import into A:M...I also have the facilitiy to reduce the number of polygons, quadrangulate the polygons,whatever...

I don't mind having to clean up an imported model up as long as I can get the basic thing into A:M.

Can someone please tell me how to get a model into A:M so that it looks halfway decent and doesn't crash the program. I've tried obj and I've tried 3DS formats.

There must be SOME way. I am starting to get really frustrated with A:M...I can't do what I want to do with it (i.e. animate) without first importing (because building is out of the question for me) some models.

    Help!

  9. Yeah, Ark does look much better than Aerotroopers.

It's good to see independent studios bringing out CG films...as long as the quality is of a high standard.

  10. Hi, fellow Hashers

I found a company called Dosch Design in 3D World mag and checked out there website. Some of their models are listed as compatible with A:M and others aren't.

Anyone have any experience of importing their models into A:M? They aren't rigged, so I assume they are obj's , but how well do they convert to splines?

Here's a linkto the products they say are compatible with A:M:

    Dosch's A:M Compatible Products

    Cheers

    Adam
