Hay Larry, what are you doing in Edmonton? I thought Cranbrook was a nice place to live.

Welcome back. It's good to see the old familiar folks on the forum.

I came across this space resource page in my travels and thought it might be usefull. It has tutorials and links to lots of images.

If you mean IK and FK, inverse and forward kinimatics, you swithch between them in the Pose Sliders pannel under Rig/ Setup. Assuming your using the 2001 rig, or a character that comes on the CD, you can turn on and off the IK for legs and arms. In general Ik is good for animating legs and FK is good for arms. I hope this answers your question.

The only thig I know about Divx is that it won't play on Macs. If you are concerned about part of your audience not being able to veiw your movies, don't use Divx. A good way to find out what others use is to download a movie and open it in the player and check the info pannel to find out what codec they used, at least this works in QT. I have tried Sorenson, MPEG 4 and others, but my favourite is On2 by far. On2 consistantly gives the smallest file size with the clearest image. For sound compression I use MPEG 4, although most movie trailers use Sorenson 3 and Qdesign Music 2 for sound. Sorenson is pretty good and everyone can play it. The other big thing to adjust to bring down the file size is limiting the data rate. As mentioned above, experiment with a small peice of your movie.

Thanks for the comments, every bit is helpful. The water is one of the things I want to work on. I'd like to make it a pond with some wash and splash. Slowing down as he enters the water would add a good bit of realism. Sound is also a good idea, I just need some music to go splat by. I also want to work on the setting a bit and add soem treez and hills, and a warning sign with a double black diamond. Any other idaes?

Looking good William. I'm going to have to keep an eye on this.

Hi John. I just watched your tutorial. Nice job. I always like to see how others work. The only question I have is why do you use the distort cage to shape the body instead of moving the splines? I've never used the distort cage, I'll have to give it a try.

I wanted to try out Emilio's sweeper plugin and one thing led to another... Thom is so willing. I had fun doing this and would like to polish it up, so any suggestions are welcome. I use the On2 codec as usual.
-
Thanks Emilio, I have it now.

Thanks mtpeak2, but I'm still having problems. In the image you can see the shape, path, and result, not what I was wanting. I want the shape to follow the path and look like emilio's pipe.
-
Emilio, what settings and path/shape orientation did you use to make the tubes above.I've been trying to do something similar, but the shape doesn't always align to the path. I'm using A:M v 10.5
-
I'm using Sweeper for v 10.5 and I wnat to make a series of connetced pipes that run at different angles, some what like Emilio showed in one of his picts. I have been trying, but the best I've got so far has the shape following the path only partly. Sorry, no images. I know this is sounding vague, but what settings do I use and how do I orient the shape and path to get the shape to run perpendicular to the path?
-
Hey Vern, thanks.
-
Thanks Emilio and Aaver for the 10.5 version. I just gave it a quick try and it works great. I'm looking forward to playing with it.

I started modelling this head in wings, so I could block out the main shapes, then put in A:M. It still took me quite a while to get this far, but It was faster and turned out better than starting in A:M. I'm not very good at heads.
Feel free to make comments. The eyes are somewhat anime, and I need to do more around the nose, as well as endless smoothing.
-
Emilio, your plugin sounds so good I'm going to have to upgrade to v 11 so I can try it. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the comments, I find them all very helpful. As we all know, after looking at our own work day after day, it really helps to have some outside input.
Yes it is a bit soppy. It was orriginally going to be about a school aged girl who draws to cheer herself up. That's why the room is kid's colours. Also I wanted to express the power that, kids have to enter there imaginary worlds. I changed it after I found the music. I liked the song, and it has a good beat to animate to, so I wanted the story to fit the song.
I didn't spend a lot of time on modelling, texturing, lighting, etc, because I wanted the project to flow quickly, so I'd get it done, and my goal was to tell the story and not spend a lot of time up front. I would like to polish it, and add some to the end. The rider is the girl, she is drawing herself on a horse. I planned to have the horse and rider shift to colour, opposite the her and her boyfreind fading to black and white, but I liked the look of the line horse walking away I left it that way. In the expanded version the horse and rider will disolve into a colour scene, but that will come later.
I am quite happy how the transition from drawing to animation worked. This part was the main theme of the project, showing how we can use our imagination to create our world. It was also the part I was least sure how to do when I started. it turned out to be quite easy, after a great suggestion from Iham Wrong.

Nice work, I'm looking forward to seeing the finished peice.

Hi gang. I finally have a showable version of my first music video for crit. This is the project that led me to A:M 3 years ago. After 2 starts, 1: in Strata and Poser, 2: in A:M 9.5 (enough said about that), and now in A:M 10.5.
Even though it is quite rough, I am quite happy how it turned out. I would love to hear what you like and don't like, and don't worry, I'm not easily offended.
I made it as small as possible 5.4 megs for 1.5 minutes using the On2 codec. If you have trouble veiwing it, please let me know. I can post a Sorrenson 3 version, but for similar quality it comes in at 8.8 meg.
Here it is Just My Imagination

The 2001 rig should be on the A:M cd. Look in the characters library in A:M, or open CD/data/models/actors/2001 skeleton. I don't know if it's been updated to 2004, but it has some oddities. In general, it works best with the legs IK on and the arms IK off. The arms IK can cause them to be jumpy. Otherwise, it is a great rig to start with. have fun.

Good idea Jack, I'll give it a try.

I've been wondering when Virtual Media was going to show up here. You guys have done an awesome job. I hope the idea really takes off. I was also wondering if mflix , or a similar provider would be a good venue for Virtual Media. Please let us know how things go.

Sounds good to me. Maybe forum members could be asked what models they need and use that for the competition. That would be a fantastic resource to request a model and have a bunch to choose from in a couple of weeks.
