  1. It looks OK to me - the timing of the head bounce is a little off. The Up motion looks good but I think the head motion seems to hang a little too long before moving back down.

    Cheers

I was trying for the heads to look like they sort of bounce around on their own. Maybe it just doesn't work if it looks too strange.

I was going to add some shouting motions to the faces, but the face is not rigged on the generic loon model. Also, the neck squetch control doesn't seem to do anything on this model. Is there something that needs to be turned ON/OFF to do the neck squetch?

  2. Heath is at a show right now (Wondercon in San Francisco) but he'll be back Monday. Email him for the missing line.

    Will do Martin.

Here is the first pass at it with Tinmans line. I don't know if I will get a chance to do any more on it this weekend, we've had a death in the family.

  3. 2_08_43 has two lines of dialog, one from Tinman and one from Scarecrow, but only the Tinmans line is in the audio folder for the scene. There is no audio for Scarecrow. Is there somewhere else that I could find this file?

  4. not really. If they only animate.. they can still use version 13 as has been mentioned. Its only the messing with the model that would necesitate having version 14. So no forced upgrade unless you are modelling or lighting. And I'm pretty sure most of the lighters have version 14 already. Not sure about the modellers.

I understand that, I was just pointing out that if it was decided to take the entire production pipeline to V14, we would be forced to upgrade to participate. I was just discussing the issues as I see them. It wouldn't hurt me in any way if the decision was made to go to V14, I might just need to take a break from TWO until I could upgrade. :)

  5. No-one is forcing you to upgrade - it's still your choice! ...... and the cost of the 2007 subscription does not just cover v14 but also any v13 updates that occur in 2007 (unless something has changed that I am not aware of). Its a bit like gong to the 2007 theatre shows and expecting to get in on a 2006 season pass.

You are correct, no one is forced to upgrade if they are working on personal projects. But if TWO switches totally to a pre-release V14, then anyone wanting to participate is being forced to upgrade.

BTW, you don't have to upgrade to continue to get updates to V13, all updates to V13 released so far this year work with the 2006 CD.

If the TWO team feels that it would be in the best interest of the production to switch to V14, that's fine. I just wanted to point out that doing so will shut out any participants that aren't prepared to upgrade at this point.

  6. Yes, finished work would follow the work in progress so you can post it here.

See it as an opportunity to promote the work.

Tease us... tell us a little about the project... post an image or two first... show us something that led to the finished work.

    Then post the final product.

    (My take)

Oh, I would definitely do that, there would be a WIP thread. My only concern is that lots of times when I visit a site like cgtalk, etc., I go to the showcase or finished works forum looking for new things to see. I won't necessarily go through multi-page WIPs to see if any of them are finished. It just seems to me that doing it this way, only folks that have been following the WIP will ever see your finished project. If there is a forum for finished works, you can go there and quickly scan the thread titles to find things you want to see.

If I upload an image to A:M Stills and post to my WIP that it's done, there's really no announcement to the world to say "Hey, come see what I did!"

    Just my ¢2,

  7. New guy butting in here--

I don't know much about the animated feature business, but I do know theatre. In theatre, if the director says: "Wear this costume" then you wear it. Whether you or I like the way it looks on you is not important.

    Lee

Yeah, but the director doesn't then charge you $99 to wear the new costume. :)

I have no problem paying to update my software when we have a stable released version, but I shouldn't have to pay someone to be their beta tester. Like I said in a previous post, if they want us to be their test team, make the pre-release versions of V14 work with the Yeti CD. This has been done with previous versions.

  8. Then, by definition, it's not ready for real world use yet.

V14 is still Alpha, it seems to me switching just adds unnecessary risk to a lot of work. Animators don’t need any V14 feature to make any of the models work. TDs will be rendering in it, maybe they might want to start looking at it. What would the advantage to the production be for everyone to switch?

I would agree with these. I signed on to TWO because I wanted to learn and be part of creating something, not to be a beta (or alpha) tester. Since TWO is supposed to be a "production environment", it's not really the place for testing unreleased software. I upgraded to V13 to participate because it had needed features and had been released, I had no problem with that.

If you want people to act as beta testers, make the alphas and betas of V14 work with the Yeti CD.

  9. Is there no forum for finished works anymore? Does everything just go to A:M Stills and A:M Films now? If so, where would be the best place to post that something is finished so that folks will check it out? Here? Or are people just posting finished works in the WIP forum now?
