I never paid much attention to it, but now that I have a night scene, I wonder if I have to make adjustments so everyone can see all the intended details? It looks great on my monitor, will it look the same on everyone elses'?
-
Can we see a 3/4 profile render? You did not make any eyes, did you? It looks like you applied the decal on top of the model in the same position of the rotoscope. What does it look like without the rotoscope?

My turn to drop my jaw! Fantasaticlical!

Yes, I did use multi pass. Once at 9x and once at 25x with no improvement. I did some screen caps to show what I mean. You can see the front, side, and camera view setup, and three renders. The first small black one is with a short falloff, the way I need it for the shot, the second one is with a much longer falloff, and the third is with contrast reduced from 50% to 25%. Both the klieg and the bulb have volumetrics turned on to default settings and nothing else is rendering, such as shadows or reflections, etc. Is there a way to have these two volumetric lights stay in their respective positions and still render with a nice "normal" volumetric blend?
-
I've noticed that when two volumetric klieg cones overlap, it produces a harsh dark gray field. Is there any way to overcome this? I was looking for something that would turn off the additive property, but there isn't one for volumetrics.

Thank you for the support guys. I'll get back to the castle as soon as I finish my Sci-Fi contest image - couple more days.

This error has bugged me several times over the years with no solution - until now. This seemed to happen with large Jpeg files, so I attributed it to either some kind of memory limit with AM or my computer. Well, neither is the case. Today I looked at one of these Jpegs closer and discovered that it had photoshop paths embedded in it. Once I removed the paths and made sure the mode is RBG, I was able to load it into the AM image folder without the dreaded error #019. Hope someone may find this useful.
Cheers

Al,
You can get some pretty neat effects with bump, displacement and diffuse mapping for damage on your walker. The attachment is a decal I made in Photoshop for my tank that shows some explosion damage. You can use it as you like or just see how this kind of damage is created. The key is the difference in the shades to create depth and height. For this decal, apply where it looks good - it does not matter if it goes over other decals because we will not apply it as color. Once applied, change the property from color to displacement with a value of -600. Now add the same image to the decals image property and change it from color to diffuse with a value of 166. Render away and see if you like it. You may need to play with the % values to get the right look and feel.

I was hoping you would say that AL, because I will crush your walker with doom from the skies! Your puny Walker will be defenseless against my terror from space. You might reconsider if you want to keep your homebuild pile of junk (it's actually really quite nice - anyways, back to smack) in one piece. After I'm through with you, err, I mean your machine, it will go back in the smelter where it belongs

I'm actually in the same boat, but I'll enter what I have, no matter what.

What about the decals?

There hasn't been any smack talk lately, so I guess it's up to me again
I've taken a little break from Jinx castle to do a quickie for August's, er...I mean September's Sci-Fi contest. I hope you're all shakin' in yer boots, cause I'm a gonna win this here con-test. Look for that li'l Hash feller to be up to his usual nonsense in my entry
Hope we have a great turnout, may the best smack talker win!

Besides, I've been so busy with Jinx Castle that I haven't even started on the Sci-Fi contest.

Thank you Mark.
Nancy, does that mean you like it, even though it was done by "that Eric "two forum named" Camden fella?" If so, thank you also
-E
p.s. Wouldn't it be "two named forum fella?"

Oh boy! Haven't you heard the old adage: "It's not about winning or losing, it's..." wait...oh heck, it is about winning?
Just kidding, it's about progressing, about doing something with your fellow Hashers, about perseverance, and having fun. I've found that it's the effort that counts, not the final product. If everyone thought like you did, competition would cease to exist and progress would be halted. There would be no Olympics, no light bulbs, and no Kentucky Fried Chicken (that might not be a bad thing). No one is here to tear someone else apart. Haven't you noticed, we are all here to help each other get better and succeed. You need to change your attitude my friend and jump into the water
