  5. hi I am a beginner as well,I would like to be part of a group. Maybe we can get others to join and learn from each other. My biggest problem is my time is limited. I have a book by David Rogers as well as a dvd set from Barry Zundel and another dvd set by Jeff Lew. I have more training material on the way, another book..plus more traing videoes on Animation Master. I don't know if you are familiar with internet relay chat, but we could set up a channel there to form a group and be able to transfer files between us. let me know if you are interested in this format and i will set something up and give you the particuliars then. thanks Steve
  6. I am following the guide by David Rogers, and when I make my patches the outer edges of splines turn into hexagon shapes. Like when making a sphere, it is round but with the hexagon look to it. I hope someone understands what i am saying, meaning i hope i am explaining it clearly and in the right way. thanks for any help. Steve

  12. you are right, that is all I am finding right now. So it looks like I will give vista a go...
  13. thanks for the replies everyone. I think I will stay with XP for now. It seems I still hear too many negatives about vista, I will wait for bugs to get worked out.
  14. I am thinking of purchasing a new laptop with vista os. Does anyone know if Am runs on vista or should I stick with XP. Also if anyone has vista how do you like the overall performance of new operating system? Thanks for any advice.
  15. Thanks I will try when I get back to work on Monday, I am using desktop while at home and following Barry Zundels training dvds, still on the first dvd of modeling.
  16. I haven't had a chance to load up AM even on my breaks at work so I haven't tried the latest tips as of yet. My laptop is a very basic inspiron 1000 from Dell. I probably should be happy to be able to do anything with AM on it. Thank you for trying to help.
  17. Thanks I will try the suggestions, and the video driver is current.
  18. You are right Jon, it sucks! I use Am on my laptop at breaks when at work to practice, learn what I can when I have free time. I have a wife two kids, one in college, and one just turned sixteen. My free time is limited so I try to use very opportunity to learn. I love AM and I am determined to acheive the goal of being able to model and animate. My desktop is is an XPS 410 so it works fine with AM, but I cannot carry it with me to work. So the sucky laptop will have to do for now and I will just have to get what I can out of it. Have a great day and all advise is always appreciated. I have learned a lot from this forum and everyone here is so polite and helpful. When I can maybve I will be able to help someone just starting out... Have a great day, night, morning, weekend and life!
  19. Hit "Ctrl+P" to open the "Options" menu, select the "Global" tab and change your "Realtime driver" (it's on the bottom left)...if it's "OpenGL", change it to "Direct3D", if it's "Direct3D" change it to "OpenGL". Hope that helps. I tried changing from opengl to direct3d and I just get a black window where nothing is visible, maybe my laptop just sucks..lol!
  20. everytime I load a rotoscope on my laptop all I get is a blank box. The project workspace says the rotoscope is there but there is no actual picture in the window. Anybody know what setting I need to change? Thanks.
  21. For seeing a video with your model in: 1. A modeling window 2. An action Window 3. A chor window While in the front view, right click on an empty area of the window to bring up the context menu. Select New->Rotoscope->Other and then select the video from disk. That should do it but if you have problems in an action or chor window select the rotoscope in the PWS, expand it and locate the frame number. On the action or chor frame zero (or whatever frame you want the video to start on) place a zero in the rotos frame number. Advance the action or chor's current frame number to where you want the video to end and then place the last frame of the video in the rotos frame number. or Import the video into the PWS image area. Drag and drop the video from the PWS to the window where you want it and drop it. In the menu that comes up specify 'rotoscope'. If needed set the roto frame number as discussed above. I do this all the time to help animate a character (I video tape myself doing it). Sometimes it takes a moment for the video frame to appear after you change it but kick the tire a few times and it works. Rusty Thanks Rusty
  22. how do you get video to play as rotoscope behind your model so you see them at same time. I get video to play but have to minimize one screen to see the other. Thanks in advance for any help.
  23. thanks, the doble click worked. sorry for the double reply, now that I got the video to play. How do get it to play right behind the model that I am rotoscoping the motion to?
  24. thanks, the doble click worked.
