jon Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 are any of the discussed game engines deliverable as a browser-based plugin? i've have kind of a one track mind regarding web-enabled 3d models, and i've pretty much resigned myself to having to export out of a:m to get this done. sounds like obsidian's .x exporter is going to be a common first step? -jon Quote
ragtag Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 Both Java and Director can create games that can be played in web browsers, and there are other options too. But those two are most widespread (i.e. people allready have the plugin requiered installed). Java is free, and Director costs 1430 euros (probably less in the stats ). Director is more of a drag and drop application, and requiers less coding, while Java is a fully fledged object oriented programming language. I made a game in Director when I was at school (ages ago) that can be played here. It was made to run on a MacPlus, even though it was made long after the MacPlus had become more of a souvenir than a usefull computer. Ragnar Quote
pdaley Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 Look up wild tangent. That is the company that bought the genesis engine a LONG time ago. That is interesting because AM has a fairly recent plugin to export AM models(with bones!) to the genesis engine. While genesis still exists as a stand alone app style product... wild tangent is a web browser plugin. AM long-timer Arthur Walasek is the plugin guy and there are a couple more guys (more likely to be found at cgtalk) that have done some AM to Genesis work. Quote
jon Posted February 20, 2005 Author Posted February 20, 2005 thanks fellas! all good ideas, but the wildtangent angle sounds the most appealing at the moment.. i'll go do some digging at cgtalk and see what's what. -jon Quote
