  1. How many people came up with the true economy idea for MMORPGs at once? I've had this idea floating in my head for a while now, and now at least I know I'm not the only one looking for one of these.

By the way, you only have 3 guys working on an MMO? How long is that going to take you? Lol.

After all, I'm planning an MMORPG myself, several years from now anyways, and I'd like a good time guesstimate on how long 3 people will take to make a single MMORPG.... Give me a good idea how much time I need to set aside.....

My partner came up with the basic concept years ago. We started brainstorming after work hours about how to do it, and the potential of the idea. We began working on the first attempt in 2001. I left the job we were both working at, and dropped the ball. A year or so later, I called him out of the blue and told him I really want to make this a reality, so we started up at our second attempt. We began working part time after work, and soon I found myself working too much and not having enough time for the game. It was very frustrating. I finally made the jump to working on the game full time, and working on the side to support myself. My partner is helping me by letting me stay rent free at his place.

He is a machine when it comes to work, and when he gets home from a full time job, he puts in a ton of hours on his own time to do the game. He has a lot of experience in the software industry, and can plan projects from start to finish, without him - I would be totally lost and directionless. He does the programming, and I do the art. So far we make a great two man team. I have a friend who jumped on the wagon, but unfortunately he is behind financially, and is working hard to get solvent so he can start working with us part time. He also needs to improve his skills is either programming, or in AM. I had been teaching him AM, and it has been quite a struggle for the both of us to work together. However, none of us are giving up just yet, and no one has said we cannot do this, yet.

There are lots of great ideas out there about games like this, and I do believe it will be the future of games very soon. Unfortunately I have found a great idea does not constitute a game reality, so there is a lot of work, sacrifice, and more work just to make it real. The two of us really compliment each other well, and so far I have been working fulltime now for about 4 months. In this time we have achieved a monumental amount of work, and I still find it hard to believe how much we have accomplished so far compared to a major player such as Blizzard's World of Warcraft. They have hundreds of workers, and it boggles my mind to see how far we have come with only two people. There is a project Entropia as well, they only have 5 people for their developer house in Sweden, and they are already a major player in MMORPG as they already have a virtual economy.

We are already about 1/2 done for the demo phase, (I think). Once our demo is ready we will begin pursuing venture capital to build our own full developer house, or just sell the work we have already and walk away. I think we will probably stick with the project, and build our empire from there. I know this method is how Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and a whole host of other successes got started, so I feel we are on the right track with this. And like I said before, no one has told us we cannot do this, so until they do - balls to the wall!

Heh, so true man... Unfortunately, you actualy have someone to help ya with. Right now it's just me doing everything but the website, and I dont even have everything, I'm financially busted right now. But, I'm learnin AM, and if I may say so at a decent enough rate, and in my spare time I'm writing up the scripts and ideas for the toons I'll be starting off on (unless, like you, I can find a programmer guru, lol). Either way I've often been commented positively on the idea, even though no one lifts a finger to help...

But, indeed... Good luck with it.

Wish you guys woulda answered yes to my proposal... But, eh, guess everyone has to start their own way.... Where as you guys start off with the MMO, we (What little team I have) will be starting off slowly and building our way up, due to being financially ****ed....

    But, to each his own...

Good luck with it, and meet ya at the top, heh. :ninja:

  2. As a quick aside... Can I suggest you change your avatar? Yours looks remarkably like Emilio Le Roux's.
Stuart, that icon is from the IPB Community Pack, one of the pre-fab icon sets accessible by clicking on "Avatar Options" on your Profile page.

Ah, it never occurred to me that it was one of the stock icons. Either way, it's spooky seeing what I've always recognised as "Emilio's face" with someone else's "voice"!

Yes, well, I'm not keeping it for long. Soon as I make the character for my team avatar (we're all going to have one), I'll use his head for all of my forum avatars....

Thanks guys! I've been working on A:M for 13 hours straight with no sleep and only bathroom breaks (I ate while I worked).... I'm about to fall over, but I've lost enough time as is.... My personal life has kind of been getting in the way...

Anyways, yes... Sounds good... If I get enough I'll just buy all of em, heh.... Bwah.... I'm off to go work... Hope I get that email soon... Asked two j-rock bands if I can buy a song off em for my toons.... Only one of which is an actual celeb (Gackt).... But yes... Time to go... Actualy... I'm going to bed.... Already saved all my stuff...

Hopefully alittle later on in the month I can entertain you all with an, at least, WIP.

  3. How many people came up with the true economy idea for MMORPGs at once? I've had this idea floating in my head for a while now, and now at least I know I'm not the only one looking for one of these.

  4. Howdy folks! New to Animation Master, but I'm learning.... Still, in order to do what I want, I'll need help. Preferably, people in the Sacramento area in California. Reason?

I'm starting a team to make web-based cartoons, and eventualy PC games, but the major dream is to become one of the greater gaming companies, PC and console. Now, I can't give any details now, since I'm still in the process of copyrighting and trademarking everything, legaly through the system, so they dont get stolen.

I'm curious to see if there's anyone interested? I seriously need some more animators, since it's just lil' ol' me doing it by myself. I'm just getting started, still have to get the music, SFX, and all that stuff, but we're gettin there. I've already got 2 others by myself, though one's just a writer and the other's a webdesigner.

All in all, we're a tiny team with big dreams, and if we got anything to say about it, we're going to achieve em!... Unfortunately, we need a LOT of help.

    So, anyone interested?

  5. Alright AndyDavis, I get it, start out small and figure out whats what. It's generaly what I had in mind (do a few short projects, get better, move on to full-length). And sorry about missin yer post Brainmuffin. I'll look around and give Cakewalk a try. As for the sound effects.... Geeze, when did things get so complicated? But yes, thanks guys.

Being almost 11pm here, and seeing as I've been up for almost 24 hours, I think it's time for me to finish up what I'm doin and hit the hay. Thanks for the help!

On a side note: The audio is alot more complicated than I was lead to believe, and learning this stuff single handedly is taking a bit longer than I had initially hoped... I hate my interfering life right now...

  6. Hrmm, I coulda swore I animated them without walking through eachother.... Bah. Thanks, I'll give the audacity program a try, but the problem is I dont have a library of sound effects or music. And I really just want a music making program. A friend of mine had one a few years ago that was a simple click & drag to the time-bar.... Need to find one like that.

  7. Hello! I am currently in the process of starting a team for web-based cartoons and (in the near future) games. I'd like full length 20-30 minute cartoons, and completely full length games. After looking around, this was the most expensive thing I could buy for that purpose. Now, two months later, I need an audio program to go with it.

    What would you guys suggest?

I need it to have a full range of sound effects (explosions, mystical magic sounding stuff, mechanicle gears moving, etc), along with the ability to create music (preferably click and drag), and finaly voice acting. I'm very completly serious about this, and if I have my way you guys'll be hearing about me soon enough. I just needa program or two to help with this. I've looked around but it was all for naught, and none of my friends know.

So, I ask the AM guys what they use for it.

Also, I read in another topic (while cruising around for this answer) that AM has a problem doing anything over 2 gigs in size. I'm not sure how large my toons are going to be, but if I have my way they'd be detailed and full, with nothing left that could be considered 'junk'.... Combine that with the audio and all that, and I'd like to know how large you think they'd be (Honestly, I'm not expecting more than 50MBs at most).

I need serious help with this. Not only am I running around in circles via Google and Yahoo searches, I'm trying to finish a college course on Visual Basic while taking care of my own personal life.

Also, on a side note... I'm still learning this by the way (busy as I've stated)... How do you avoid clipping, people walking through things, and how can I get wind effects and physics to work? For some reason all the stuff I've been doing so far has completely went berserk in those areas.
