If your leaves are pulling away from the stem when you move the stem, is the leaf bone truly a child of the stem bone?

    Robakyo,

I checked my file and everything looks correct, parent and children seem in order. I watched the video tutorial again, but I can't seem to find the answers to my problems. :(

Yes, a giraffe tutorial would be nice. I am almost finished with it now, but for the longest time I could not attach the back leg.

Where did you find v13 beta, the universal is for an intel mac? I am not on the intel mac, but I am curious as to where you found out about the beta.

  2. Hi Elizabeth.

I'm a new user as well, but I've realized that sometimes a control point is sometimes hidden behind another cp. Change views and you might discover that one of the leaf base control points isn't flashing the color of the Bone that you are attempting to assign it to. The first question is beyond me. Mac or PC? I've noticed that the Duplicator Wizard dialog box reverses Extrude and Copy for Mac. :)

Hi Robakyo and anyone who can answer my questions,

I checked my file and all cps seem to be assigned correctly. I noticed that if I move just the leaves they stay attached, but if I move one of the stem bones that is when they detach. I am wondering if this is fixed by some more advanced feature not covered in the manual. I am afraid this is going to come up again when I try to put a skeleton in my own model I am working on. I use both the Mac and PC. In the flower exercise, I started on the Mac, then worked on it a little on the PC, ran into the petal problem, went back to the Mac and had the same issue, but finished it with my fix.

Remarks/Suggestions for Improvement: I have two issues with the flower exercise. The first was when I used the duplicator wizard for the 13 petals did not work. The petals duplicated in a circle, but instead of spacing out evenly there seemed to be space at the end to fit two more petals. I just went with it and put in 15 petals and it looks fine, but I am not sure why the 13 did not work in the first place. The second issue is assigning control points then posing my flower . I assigned the base of the top leaf to the stem bone but it still detaches when I move the flower into the curved pose. The other leaf and the petals seem to stay attached ok.

Remarks/Suggestions for Improvement: Work wanted me to learn modeling so I skipped Exercise 6 and 7 for now, will go back to it soon. I keep getting pulled for web projects at work so I hope I don't forget all I learned about animating in the previous exercises. I have also done the flower and I am struggling with the giraffe, but I have to say modifying existing models is a great way to get comfortable with how models are built.

Remarks/Suggestions for Improvement: In the first version I did of this exercise my rabbit looked like he was very heavy in his step or doing lunges instead of walking. He is a little better now, but his arms at the shoulder still do some supernatural twisting.

  6. Hello again,

I got sidetracked by work and a vacation, but I am back again to post more exercises.

Remarks/Suggestions for Improvement: My Mac was just hiding my files before, I had closed the Choreography window and had thought that I had lost my files - Hash cleared this up for me, but it would be nice to have these types of basics about interface explained somewhere.

The first time I had attempted this exercise I used the knight with the messed up knees and got very frustrated, that is when I discovered the importance of the forum. This one took me a long time, I moved things too much and the knight has a little spasm in the middle with the legs, but it is barely detectable in the movie. I am still workng on the keyframing concept, the manual doesn't really explain this and the video tutorial is not that easy to understand about it, Hash support helped explain it a bit to me so hopefully I will get better at it the more I do these.

Remarks/Suggestions for Improvement: My Mac ate the sad bunny too :(

I decided I needed the practice and did the extra poses on page 34.

Remarks/Suggestions for Improvement: I used the Knight with the good knees! Now if I could only get my Mac to stop eating my project files. Has anyone else experienced not being able to reopen a saved project file?

  9. Hello all,

I am new user, I gave my little intro speech in the Welcome New Users Into section. I have actually been messing with AM for a few weeks. I have to say the learning has been a bit steep for me since I have no previous 3D animation experience and I am a perfectionist that can get stuck on the smallest inconsequential detail. I have already had some help from Hash support and they incouraged me to use the forum. I have done quite a few TAoAM exercises which I will be posting soon. I am working toward the certificate. I had to do the first few exercises over again since I did them on someone else's computer at work. So here is the first.

    Name: Elizabeth S. Borkowski

    Exercise Completed: Exercise 1

    Date Completed: 4/3/06

Instructor: TAoAM manual, Hash support, and hopefully the AM Forums

Remarks/Suggestions for Improvement: KeeKat model on Yeti has foot in different position from manual and the default light or camera postions are also different from manual which casts the shadow in the wrong direction and makes KeeKat look like he is floating a little. I don't think for this exercise I am supposed to know how to adjust lighting yet and the camera movement comes in the next exercise so I think this one is good to go.

  10. Hi Everyone,

I am a brand new user of AM and this is also my first time to join and post on a forum! I have no previous experience in 3D animation so I have to say this is a bit intimidating , but I know that I can do this. My background is in graphic and web design. I am currently a government contractor. Recently, I have made a shift in my career, I have joined the multimedia lab, where the focus is in on video and computer based training. The folks in the lab gave me list of 8+ programs that I need to learn starting with Animation Master. I am supposed to become the animation expert for the lab so that we can in the near future incorporate animation into our videos and training materials. I have to get some skills fast because potentially thousands of people could be seeing my work in the very near future. So, I look forward to a dialog with other AM users.

    Elizabeth
