  1. You have the Ambience Render Shader turned on in the Advanced Render Settings properties. It's at the bottom under Plugin Shaders. This is why your plane is turning a lovely shade of blue :D. Just turn that off and it will render fine.

    Michael,

That was it... looked straight at it, but didn't see it. So, here's the fixed render:

  2. First off, let me say nice job on your plane. I modeled and remodeled mine 3x before I got it to look right.

Thank you. I got lucky on my first shot.

Regarding the color, have you checked the lighting setup in your Choreography scene? Also, what are the Surface settings for the plane model? If you wouldn't mind posting a pic of the Surface settings, this might help troubleshoot the blue issue (although, I have to admit, the plane looks good with the blue tint :)).

Had a couple blue settings in the choreography scene, set them to white and re-rended and still had the blue tint. It does look kinda cool with the blue tint though :)

Lastly, do you have fog turned on and, if so, what color is the fog. I know, I'm probably reaching, but I figured it was worth a shot as well :D.

    Fog's off.

Here are sshots of the surface settings, and render settings.

Comments: Took a bit longer, but not as hard as I thought it would be. However, I have one issue that's gotten me puzzled. I'm posting three images, maybe someone can tell me what my problem is (well, the problem with the render anyway :D). First one is rendered as shaded, and it renders as it should, colors matching the decals. The second one I rendered as final, and it has a blue tint to it. (The third one is just a toon render, wondered what it would look like [also has a blue tint]). Any ideas on why I'm getting the blue shading all over? If it was a problem with the way I tinted the canopy, I'd think it would show up in the shaded render as well as the final render, but it doesn't.

  4. Hey! Where do I sign up for your 'life course'. :P

School of Hard Knocks... naw, I shouldn't say that, I've had a good life... more like the School of Stupid Decisions <_<

It sounds like you have a great setup.

Good luck on your project and character.

I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of him?

We'll see how it works out. Spent a weekend not too long ago running CAT5e cable throughout the house, so I can hit anything from anywhere, so I can be lazy in the bedroom and control the rendering machine in the basement. Once I get him modeled and rendered, I'll likely pop him up here to get opinions, etc. Funny, just showed my wife the Ex 7 I did and she gave me grief (again) for not submitting the strip yet.

Please feel free to go off topic like that any time.

I'm sure you want to do a lot of the work yourself but know that we are here for you.

We're all in this life together so might as well animate the best of it. :)

I'm sure I'll be posting some to the effect of "HOW DO I DO blah blah blah? Help before I toss this computer out the window!" Or something like that :D

Comments: This one was easier than I thought it would be. Amazing though, after not really touching A:M for a year, what I remember from the interface... but, I've forgotten things too.. important things, like when you have a movement you didn't want (like an arm drift)... I can't remember how to fix it. Thus, the AVI is a close-up of his face... I had him putting his hand to his mouth, then dropping (was going to have him point, but I guess I forgot how to do that with him too), then cross his arms. But the arm drift was after he raised his arm to his mouth and I couldn't figure out how to fix it, didn't want to totally redo him, so I made it a close-up. Probably a simple fix too. And I forgot how long it takes to render, even on my honker of a laptop (nx9600, 3.6GHz, 2GB RAM, etc). Would like to see how it goes on my dual core laptop, but it has Linux on it. Any plans for a Linux A:M? There's an OSX version, which is Linux based (well, BSD), so I wouldn't think it would be a huge deal to convert... but, wrong forum for that. :) Guess I'll look into building a giant AMD multi-CU rendering machine. :D

Anyway, here's the link to him:

    On to Ex 8....

  6. Rodney,

Before posting this video, I was looking at some of the others and saw Steve's... I felt 'odd' posting it since it was so close to his, but since I did it a year ago at least >I< know I wasn't copying anyone. :P After thinking about it, I did get a chuckle out of them being so similar though.

Thanx for being kind to the animation. I'm not real happy with it, but my kids like it. :D

The main parts of life that got in the way were a few large projects at work (of course) and we started the process of building a new house last Feb, and we're due to move in in 2-3 weeks. Since those two things are done, I can get back to the fun stuff. I have a nice office in the basement with plenty of room for all bazillion (well, 12 or so) computers, drawing table, to dedicate to the end goal, then end goal being to work on my original character that I've had for, geez.. 20 years or more, get him modeled into A:M, submit the comic strip package to the syndicates, and create a short cartoon of him. Anyway, off topic.

It's nice to be back though! Already started on Ex 7.

    Exercise: #6 The Door's Stuck

    Complete: February 4, 2006 (yeah, 2006, not 2007)

Comments: Did this about a year, life got in the way and I haven't touched A:M since. Received an email a few days ago about A:M 2007 being available (ordered the upgrade today), and sparked my interest again... actually, I'm kicking myself for not sticking with it, but sometimes life takes over. Anyway, I know the animation has problems (hands slip off knob, etc), <_< so please don't beat me up over it, but I'm posting it as-is and moving on in the exercises (and re-learning the A:M controls). I may come back and re-do this exercise later. Hopefully I won't disappear like I did a year ago :D

  8. What it lacks is some anticapation, such as when the rabbit is going to turn a corner, he will turn his head before his body moves. But you will lern all about that in the bootcamp.

Yeah, I thought about that after I posted it, then watched it again.... <_<

Ah well, I'll get it next time. All the things I'm goofing up or forgetting, hopefully I'll get in the #6.

  9.

Me too! My problem however is that I don't document and rarely remember the specific settings used to create a really cool accident. By the time I get around to actually wanting/needing to use that specific style in a project I'm usually at a loss in how to get the look again. Then its back to more experimention and rediscovery.

That would probably be a pretty good methodology but each time I experiment I find even more cool things to play with... and the cycle begins anew...

I'm gonna have to start documenting this year. ;)

I've been telling myself that for years... I've yet to find where I put all the documenting that I've not done.

And you'd think, since most of my stuff is computer related (I'm a Network Engineer), it would be a no-brainer to, if nothing else, open Notepad and type out what I did... or do screenshots and plop them into a document. Same with A:M... it's on the stinking computer! But nooooo.....

Same in my personal life too.. I'm working on a submission package for a comic strip to send to the syndicates. I'll think of an idea while I'm out somewhere and tell myself "I have to remember to write that down when I get home.". Do I write it down? Nope, I usually totally forget about it, 'til a few days later when I'm beating my head on the proverbial brick wall trying to remember the great idea I had a couple days earlier.

    Anyway... I'm rambling now.

  10. Thanks for the follow up Andy.

It appears there are a lot of aspects of toon lighting I have yet to investigate.

Using shawdow to control lines is definitely worth investigating.

    Thanks!

    Rodney

I tend to mess around with settings quite a bit (in pretty much anything I touch)... I like to see what kind of accidents I can have... well... interesting accidents anyway.

Normal and Toon render. 'Ghost ducks' were made by rendering with Depth of Field ON. The lack of shadows for the ducks is a nice effect, but I have to admit it was accidental.

  13. Andy,

I like the way you think. Testing out the possibilities makes for great results.

I really like the toon render. Is that straight out of the renderer or did you do anything to get the spotlight area as it is shown?

    Rodney,

Glad ya like 'em. On the toon render, honestly, I don't remember. I did it around 1am last night with one eye open. I don't THINK I changed anything and it's a default render, but I'm not positive.

Typical for me... just like at work, I do something, then the next day I can't remember how I did it.

Welp, off to work on Ex 3 (Ex 2 is finished, just waiting for it to render so I can upload it). (I cheated and skipped ahead yesterday and did Ex 9 (Flower), but want to go through 3-8 before I upload it in case I want to re-do it. :D
