  1. Looking great. For the legs, I was thinking they should go taut like Gorf suggested but have the feet flap a bit. Depends on what the wings are doing. It's off to a very fine start!

  2. I keep continually updating movie files at:

    \data\Act1\Seq03-Throne\TWO_1_03.mov

    \data\Act1\Seq05-ThePlan\1_05.mov

    It may help to determine which parts of the room need more or less detail. Only about 1/3 of 1_05 is done yet and a lot will change with the chess board but I try to update at least a couple times per week.

  3. I've tossed the idea of them being alive back and forth in my mind but I don't know. There could be some fun secondary action but it may be a lot of work (as far as setting them up) for little payoff.

    Oh - and Scarecrow will be playing with them (instead of the puzzle) not Tinman.

  4. I think your style will be perfect for the tin chess board. I'm thinking:

    Tinman = king

    Yoop = queen

    Scarecrow = bishop

    Horse = knight

    lion statue = rook

    ??? = pawns

    Owl, bear and Green monkey are probably a bad idea since that hasn't happened in the story yet.

    One of them would have to represent Ku-Klip for the transition from the flashback to the throneroom, unless the last shot of the flashback zooms in on Tinman before transitioning

    I'm not sure who the best person to send these to. I can take them but I'd rather one of the modellers take them and get me them and a chessboard all ready to go. It sucks you don't have the time to do it yourself - you have a unique style that will be hard to match.

  5. If it was something simple like renamed files (ACT?), I can go in and make a copy with the correct name for people.
    Your project opens fine but we're not using your project. We have choreographies that already have throne_room_v13.mdl referenced. Now that model doesn't exist. All you have to do is rename throne_room_main_floor_v13.mdl to throne_room_v13.mdl. Then open one of the Sequence _1_03 projects (like _1_03_03.cho) and if everything's in the assembly action, it should open with all of the new stuff and no errors.
  6. The new throne looks great. I'll play with it when I get home later tonight. I know I'm being a pain with the file structure but trust me - someone needs to be very strict about file management or we will have a lot of problems down the line that frankly, should have been avoided with a little diligence in the beginning.

    Until I give the go-ahead, none of the throneroom animations should be modified by anyone but me just yet. Once we get this room layout straightened out, I'll give the greenlight. In fact, until Al gives me the greenlight that this room is close to final, I'm not touching anything at all with these sequences; I'm re-doing too much already.

  7. I have some suggestions for the throne. Can we have the legs longer (as high as his knee) and the chair narrower? He's a skinny character. I added some modifications in the throne_room_throne_placement.act file using muscle action as a rough suggestion. I'm using \data\Shared Data\Models\Props\Tin Castle\Tinmans Throne\Tinmans throneV2.mdl

  8. I opened that project again and this time it didn't crash. It looks like all you have to do is rename throne_room_main_floor_v13.mdl to throne_room_v13.mdl

    It's still asking for some materials and models so I'll let you guys take care of for SVN - but with that rename, everything looks good!

  9. I voted for #4, in retrospect probably because it sounded most like Jack Haley (although I was thinking Brent Spiner at the time). It's also hard to listen to just the voice and not the performance. Now, I think I prefer the timbre of #2. It fits the face of the character and sounds more like a woodsman would. He should, however, pick up A Practical Handbook for the Actor. I read a few acting books that didn't make much sense but with this one, it just kind of "clicked." I can't say for sure that it would have clicked without reading the others first but it's worth a shot. You can get it used pretty cheap.

  10. I synched to all of the latest stuff and I still can't find the throneroom model. I tried opening the project in there -- throne_room_build_v13.prj -- but it was looking for missing files (throne room floor_grey_DT.mat; throne_room_stair_case_v13.mdl). When I skipped them, it crashed.

    If anyone is unclear about the system we're using, here it is in condensed form:

    * The modellers, texturers and lighting artists all work on their seperate elements.

    * Instead of assembling all of these elements in the choreography as you would normally do, they will be assembled in an action. See next step.

    * There will be a main model (in this case, throne_room_v13.mdl). This model has an action (an "assembly action," in this case throne_room_assembly_v13.act) wherein all of the aforementioned elements will be properly placed as action objects.

    * Both the model and the action will be saved externally (not embedded).

    * When there is a change to the set and that action is updated, it is automatically updated in all of the animators' numerous choreographies which already reference that model and that action.

    * If the animators need to make a scene-specific change to the lighting or the set pieces, it can be easily done in the choreography without altering the "assembly action."

    * Animators will never change the model or the action, but it will be in our scenes so that every time we synch to SVN, we will have the latest version of the set.

    Please let me know if anything is unclear. I'm not really quick with the wiki or I'd add this myself.

  11. Ed , you don't need the props ( tin throne, scarecrow chair and table , woot stool etc) to be part of the assembly action isn't it ?Since they will interact with the characters ...
    I have the tinman's throne in another action at the moment but I would like it (as well as the other things you mentioned) in the throne_room_assembly_v13.act, with the rest of the scene. What I mean is - don't worry about trying to match the proxies (the temp scarecrow props) that I already have in the chos. Just do what looks good and we'll move the characters around to match what you guys do. Just keep the general placement the same (i.e. - Scarecrow sitting off to the Tinman's left side, Woot sits in front, Tinman in the middle, etc.)
  12. Don't worry about keeping size/scale, etc. for scarecrow's props (seat, table, chessboard) that are in our scenes at the moment. I still plan on going in and re-staging the Scarecrow shots so do whatever looks best, Rodger and we'll make it work.

  13. No worries, Rodger. For the animators, the only thing we should be concerned with is having all of the latest models and an updated action object with all of the set parts and lights in place. If you guys keep updating that action (in this case, throne_room_assembly_v13.act) then every time we open any choreography with that (and there are a lot of them), then we'll always have the latest stuff. If someone does the updates in a differently named action, then we have to go though each choreography and change the action shortcut. Changing model/texture names is fine as long as you update it in the action.

  14. Please don't rename things. That's how projects get screwed up. Just overwrite the old files. If you're worried about having to use an old version, SVN does save previous incarnations. AFAIK, all of my team's projects now are looking for missing stuff and that's exactly what I'm trying hard to avoid.

  15. Is any of this on SVN yet? The dais I have still only has 4 steps in the front whereas this one has 3 all the way around. Can someone please update

    \data\Shared Data\Models\Set_chors\Tinmans Castle\final castle\rr_throneroom\throne_room_assembly_v13.act

    with the new stuff? Just replace the action file so it updates all of my choreographies at the same time. This action file should be updated every time there is a major change - like those dais steps.

    Is anyone working on Scarecrow's area?

  16. I'm thinking that the Straw throne isn't a part of the castle. The way I see it, this place was built specifically for Tinman because the original place (the Wicked Witch of the West's palace) was cold and damp. I would imagine they would build it with one throne so there isn't an empty one up there all the time reminding Tinman he's alone. Scarecrow has his own house in Winkie Country that looks like an ear of corn. He's most comfortable on straw so Tinman has his craftsmen make up a chair for his friend when comes to visit.

    However, we should definitely leave enough room on the dais for another throne. I think a shot of Tinman and Nimmie sitting on their thrones together would be awesome at the end somewhere if we can get it in.
