  1. I would like to run AM on a computer not connected to the internet, but I have learned the use of the disc as a key is no longer an option for the newer programs. If I connect a computer to my internet connection to download the newer program, then disconnect it, will the program still run?

  2. I've been seeing a lot of 'build your computer' magazine issues, but most seemed aimed at gamers. What tweeks do A:M users prefer or recommend for their computers to make working with A:M better, faster, easier, etc.?

  3. I am interested in posting my work on YouTube. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to save the animation so I can do so? (ie: save in A and convert to B, etc.) <_>

  4. Does anyone have a way to model a caterpillar track, such as though used on Tanks (A.F.V.s) and heavy construction machines? Doing the wheels according to the tutorials seems easy, but it's the flexible track that stumps me.

    Any reply appreciated

  5. CGI is becoming more accepted in the mainstream media. I just saw part one of a two part pilot of a cartoon entitled DRAGON BOOSTER. While the humans are definitely modeled on some sort of polygon system :P (the usual straight lines showed), apparently more attention was paid to the dragons. They were were very smooth and flexible. If they both used the same system, that means a LOT of small polygons  (not needed in A:M) :D .

This, I believe, shows the open market is accepting CGI more openly.

Will update when I have more information.

  6. If you are looking for examples of movement, I would suggest the books published by a photographer by the name of Edward (My-Bridge), I don't remember its spelling. He shot series of still pictures of people and animals to study their movements. The books are considered basic study for animation, even though they were down nearly a century ago. Copies can be expensive, so check you library. If they don't have a copy on the shelves, they may be able to get one through an inter library loan.

  7. Mr. Fong,

Thank you, that was what I was looking for. Strangely, I got you partial duplicate post in the mail, not your full original. I will try you suggestion when I get the opportunity.

  8. Dear Sirs,

The recent spate of plug-in requests reminded of one I found once and was looking for again. It rendered the image created in A:M as an inked drawing. I lost my reference to it, although I do remember it was for A:M. Does anyone know where I might find it and if it is compatible with V. 10.5?

    Any reply would be appreciated.

  9. I remember seeing in some computer art magazines a device that was used to scan an object or model and transfer the information into a computer to create a 3d computer model. I think it was called a digitizer. ;) Does anyone else recall this device? And does anyone think one could be used with A:M? ;)

  10. My first inspiration to learn animation was Disney, especially Fantasia (that had it all!). Then the films with Harryhousens work. After missing the Super 8 revolution, I finally started looking into CG, but until AM came along, most of the programs were too expensive to even consider it. Hopefully, other want-to-be animators will soon be filling the screens with new animation.

    I think Walt would aprove.

  11. This may seem a stupid question, but how do you import a sound file into the library? I can't find a reference in any of my material.

    Any help appreciated.

  12. Mr. Animaster,

I have often considered purchasing QuickTime and your post gave me a reason to look further into it. But according to the book I purchased (QUICKTIME 6, VISUAL GUIDE) the only direct cd to .wav is from the Mac program and I am using a PC.

My OS (XP Home) saves any sound recordings to Window Media Files. Do you know if Quicktime will, or can, convert these to .WAV?

  13. While it appears I may have been beaten to the punch about the sphere, I will add my two cents anyway. My suggestion is to purchase ANIMATION MASTER 2002, A COMPLETE GUIDE by David Rodgers. It has just this project illustrated, as well as more information on splines, mesh, and creating shapes.

    Happy Animated Trails.

  14. Dear Sirs,

Yes, the music I wish to animate to is from music CD's. Much of my inspiration is from music and things I have read or written.

  15. Dear Zowat,

When you say 'sound recorder', do you mean the WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER?

And concerning WIMAMP, do I start with a C prompt? (Haven't done that since I went to computer classes in high school)

As you can tell, I'm not very computer savvy. :(

Still, thanks for the help. :)

  16. I've seen devices at both music stores and electronic stores (such as Radio Shack) that are designed for repairing scratched disks. They usually include some sort of fluid that it spreads on the disk filling the scratches then buffs the disk while it dries.

  17. I am working on mastering the tutorials, and in the manual it states that sound files must be in the .wav format. Can anyone suggest a program that will allow me to save such a file. My computer is a DELL with a CD-RW that also reads music cd's.

Any reply would be appreciated. :D

  18. Dear Sir,

I remember reading some time ago about a device called a 'pantograph' that was used to scan a real item into a computer 3D program. There were several being advertised at the time. Whether or not they are compatible with A:M, I do not know. Perhaps another reader might.
