Exercise Completed: Exercise 11.5, Make A Face

    Date Completed: Nov. 6, 2008

    Instructor: Manual, forum

Comments: A couple rounds of working on the face. At one point, I had the full head textured, but no ears. It was impossible to add the ears simply, so I went back to the half head, modeled the ears, flip attached the head and re-textured! Wife asked, "Is he supposed to be an elf?". So, I could see tweaking the ears. :)

Most challenging AM model to date.

  2. I completed some more of the set. I'll need to look at the IBL and other suggestions for the next round!

    1. removed shadows from green and purple side lights. Nice feature!

    2. added more trees

    3. add the moon

    4. create a camera movement down

I'm working on the Zombie Girl at the same time and will post progress this weekend. I really want to get to the animating!

  3. Thanks for all of the feedback.

I've been using the UV Editor and that is where I see multiple copies of the CP's. I guess that I have multiple copies of the decals? But I would expect that the Stamp only show the associated CP's, but I see more after moving the CP's around. I'll check, but I think that I see the other CP's in the Stamp:Edit view even though they are hidden in the model view.

I've figured out how to control the DOF by enabling and adjusting by selecting the camera. I'd expect the values on the "Render to File Settings" dialog box to change as well, but they didn't. I'm not sure how they all work together, but I need to research.

Latest good DOF. I was able to keep all of the giraffe in focus and fall off by the closest trees.

Weird DOF w/ MultiPass (4 passes). Didn't repro w/ Final quality and DOF. How the heck does this happen?

Comments: I had some problems w/ groups and adding CP's to the group. I'd select and then go back to the group, yet the points were unselected. Is there some issue w/ too many groups or subset of groups? I also noted that the stamps for the decal would overlap (the CP's that is). Is this expected? Added some bones for the neck, head and tail and composed a bit of Africa! Can't wait to start building out more complex sets and animations.

I tried the depth of field feature w/ my image. Still learning the ropes here.

Comments: The model was completed last week, but I couldn't resist a small animation for the takeoff! I just completed the sky texture and the ground texture today. Not seamless, but learning a lot. Nice exercise for a mechanical model. Using Adobe Premiere as Vegas had issues w/ the quicktime out of A:M

Comments: Customized the car. I noticed that the "Car Bump Diffuse.jpg" can generate some extra noise around the door sections. I cleaned up the image. Couldn't resist running the car around a corner. ;)

Used Vegas Pro 8 for the NLE. I'd like to explore the rotoscope method outlined in a forum post.

Comments: Good to go through all of TaoA:M again and this time, complete every exercise. After doing some modeling and animation, I can really appreciate this nice manual. I love the forum feedback and seeing the work of others. Nice, positive driving here, folks.

Comments: Starting to get more of a feel for key pose workflow, but still need work. Choosing just a few key poses is a real discipline. I tend to make everything move and then simplify, but that doesn't help. Just need to, practice, practice, practice. Comments, as always, welcome.

Comments: Fun exercise with all sorts of challenges for poses. I ended up setting the interpolation to zero to remove slipping, but don't recall this being explicitly called out.

I clearly exceeded the 5 seconds, but had more fun adding more elements and two camera angles and a title sequence. I used Vegas Pro to create the overall sequence. I'm not clear on how to get two camera angles into the same choreography, so I levered the NLE.

Exercise: Exercise 5: Take a Walk

    Date Completed: September 22, 2008

Instructor: The manual and the forum

OK, time to really complete all of the exercises. # 5 is my first submission.

I have a little slippage here. adjustments to stride length doesn't fix this. Should the hips be completely static (front-back) when you create the action?

    thanks.

  11. final texture tweak done and added to SVN.

    Final action done and submitted.

I've got no more open issues.

done done? (as we say at work)

  12. Sure, no problem. May take a couple days given my current schedule.

I have yet to save out an action. I see an actions folder in the set, so do I save there?
