  1. My understanding is that the model bone is only for intial positioning. Once it starts walking around, Caroline has the right method.

     

    As far as needing to move the model bone to get the feet to go lower, most characters have the hips at the highest point in the hierarchy and if you move the hips lower then the feet targets can go lower. Of course this completely depends on how the character is rigged. It also assumes that the legs are IK.

  2. A picture would help, but I'll have a quick go at it.

     

    1) Are the pants simcloth or modeled and attached to a bone? If they are simcloth, then look into collision tolerances.

     

    2) If the pants are modeled and attached to a bone, they may be attached to the wrong bone. The otom of the pant leg may need to be attached to the foot rather than the leg or weighted between the two.

  3. When you say you know most of the how to model basics, is that on Animation Master? Your question about removing triangles and smoothing seem to indicate that your experience is with a polygon modeler. If that is true, then you may not be very familiar with patch modeling in Animation Master.

  4. Try this and see if it works.

    Put the CD in the drive. Let it go till it goes quiet.

    Either use the Desktop shortcut to start A:M or use Start>Programs>Hash Inc>VXX.0>AM XX.0

     

    If it is already installed as Gorf suspects, then it should start.

  5. When does it ask for the original CD? Is it during the install? Or after the installation is complete and you try to open it?

     

    If you are trying to run it, the CD must be in the drive to start the program as a copy protection. Once the program is running you can remove it from the drive (unless the project you are working on is referring to the CD for model files or materials).

  6. In animation, the concept is very similar, except that the first keyframe for the model and all its bones is at 0, so the first non 0 key frame is actually your second key frame. If the key frame at 0 and the next key frame (say at 10) is the same as 0 then you get what is called a hold. Holds are the key to delaying and separating motion.

    Try a search on line about holds in animation and you may find more helpful resources.

     

    Here's a useful tut that talks about holds in A:M. It is based on an old version, but it still should be useful.

  7. When you first move a bone it sets a key frame at the frame you are on. It also looks backwards to see when you last told the bone what to do. If you have not set any key frames before this, it will look all the way back to time 0. This applies to both translation and rotation key frames.   8. The more I look at this, the more I think that it is the back of the up raised hand that is driving my impression. It looks like the classic shaking your fist at God. I wonder if it would read better with the wrist turned 90 degrees?

  9. Two ideas. I agree with Rodney that maybe the second arm needs to be doing more. I see two arms raised and think victory. I see one arm raised with a fist and I see defiance.

     

    Another way to approach this WIP would be to post your pose and get people to read it for you. Then you can see if the message is transmitted by the pose. If you tell us what you're after, then it will be our interpretation of that concept, not yours. If you can get your poses to transmit the thought without telling us then you've succeeded.

     

    I like that you also post the silhouette. Always a good way to test a pose.

  10. I believe one of the bones on/off properties is Attach to Parent. Change it to off and you'll be on your way. If you want to change the hierarchy (if you don't want the bone to be the child of the pelvis), then you can drag the bone in the PWS to the same level (make it the child of the root or of the pelvis' parent).

  11. There are two ways to interpret your question. If you have made half a model and are trying to mirror it to make a whole model, then you are in need of Copy Flip Attach.

    If you have a whole model and want to move control points on either side of the center line by moving CP's on one side then it is mirror mode that you want. If so, then the CP's need to be in the same spot on either side of the symmetry line within a certain tolerance. I believe that tolerance is set in Options.

  12. I don't have it open right now, but i think it has been moved under Dynamics. If you turn Dynamics on, your get the property triangle that reveals the stiffness. I think the logic is that if you aren't using dynamics, then the stiffness has no meaning. Someone changing the stiffness properties without dynamics on would come to the conclusion that it doesn't do anything.

    Tri-state is probably Southeast PA, Southern NJ and Nothern DE, but we also can drraw from the northern MD and potentially the DC area. NC might be a bit of a stretch, but you're welcome to join us!

Not that I have any expertise in this, but perhaps to get a sense of the movement and the timing, you could do a search for baloon release video footage on the internet or buy a baloon and have someone film it while you release it. This will give a sense of camera movement, timing and speed. It might even give you a feel for how fast the scaling might look. If he truly disappears for ths shot, then he shold get small enough that when the camera cuts away, you know he's gone, not just floating out of reach. This is where a director would be handy!
