I did a QT version of this but the smallest it can get is about 3 MB, and I'm just not interested in showing something at such poor quality- the colors get really pale and ugly too. I'm no QT master, and really haven't the time at the moment to mess with it. I have limited webspace and bandwidth, so sorry to the non DiVX endowed.
Dearmad,
Try using Quicktime and set the compression to Sorenson 3, medium quality. For me, it produces ridiculously small file sizes and is very cross-platform compatible.
I can't wait to see the finished short. It looks great so far.

Hey, that's good! I'm looking forward to seeing more.

"Boy, this torch sure puts out a lot of light...and heat..."
Wow! Nice job!

You know, you might get picked up by some big company one day.
you know he works for Pixar right?
I think there may have been just the merest suggestion of sarcasm there

Nancy,
The colored lights are a gel tga sequence, dropped on a rim light, placed behind the letters. I shot the background flashing lights as a separate layer and used it as the gel. I added some volumetric to the rim with the gel.
What is a gel TGA sequence, anyway? It looks great; I really like the idea and the execution.

You'll just have to trust me, MAtrickz, the buttons are pretty smooth but you wouldn't know it looking at the banding on those images.
Well, at least you can see my approach.
Paul,
It sounds like you have Automatic Image Resizing enabled. Internet Explorer downloads the picture then resizes it to fit the current window size; that would cause the banding you are seeing. You can turn it off in the Internet Options control Panel under the Advanced tab.

Nice job. I love your character and his many adventures. Thanks!

Looks good so far, style-wise.
One of your projector lenses should be green, though. That will help clue the viewer in to what it is.

Can't get enough of that wonderful Duff...oh yeeeaaaahhhh...
Nice work.

Nice work, Gilles. Maybe the patch size could be varied in the areas the ball is not rolling through? That might help with the patterning.

Merry Christmas, and Hashy New Year!

Nice work, johnzsigo! Any plans to animate to one of their songs?
-
Okay, I know that can't be all of them. Any more video tutorials out there (besides the Hash tuts and the previously mentioned ones)?
-
Thanks, Shazam3D. Another great one.
Anybody know of any that deal with animation?

Arrrgghh! I just got the 2004 upgrade CD a month ago!!

John (Artbox) Henderson's Modeling tutorials (Part I and II) are rather nice.
Thanks, Rodney. Here are links to them:
Jim, thanks for posting the link to your other great tutorials; I couldn't find the main link before.
Thanks for the replies so far. Keep 'em coming!

Or you can see my tutorials online at www.zrrp.com/tut/Qvid If needed I can eventually get around to making a zip file containing the course of SWF videos.
Let me know

Is there a way to convert .swf to .avi or .mpg? I'm basically looking for those types of files. If they can be converted, though, that would be perfect.

Hi, Hashers!
I'm looking for any and all free, downloadable video tutorials for A:M. I am only looking for.avi, .mov, .mpg, etc. files that can be burned to a CD or DVD for viewing while away from the computer.
Here's one from Shaun Freeman on particle sprites: ftp://ftp.hash.com/pub/misc/sprites_tute/particlesprites.mov
And one by Jim Talbot on flattening a mesh for decaling: http://www.homepage.mac.com/talbotj/FLATTEN-TUTORIAL.zip
And another on adding features to a face from the same author: http://www.homepage.mac.com/talbotj/FEATURES-TUTORIAL.zip
I'm sure there are many others out there; I thought it might be nice to gather them into a single list for easy reference.
Any others out there?

Nice work! I like his face; it fits the attitude of the dialogue.

material on two planes animated
looks okay for first try ?
Ha-Ha! You said "try"!
Besides that, it looks good.
Were the materials animated, or static with the two planes' movement causing the effect?
-
Looks pretty cool, if a little bright. Is there a way to have the mushrooms actually cast light on the walls and ground?
-
Wow! Keep this up and you'll have to change your username!
I love the pose of the potato guy (awesome texture, BTW...how'd you do it?) from above, with his arms up. Any chance of seeing that pose rendered with textures?

Great subject. I'm looking forward to seeing more of it!

Lookin' good, Ken...now let's see him move!
IT'S A UFO!!!!!!!!

Take a look at the difference between these two pictures of the Millennium Falcon I found via Google Images. They are the same shape, but details make it realistic. Not saying your UFO needs that much detail, just demonstrating the point.
