  1. (see this post for details)

There should be a way to attach pix in the Animation:Master forum. I feel really akward doing this all the time, but I don't ever seem to get any help unless I post my problems in the A:M forum.

  2. Aah, this is going to seem like a lot of work but it will save you a ton of grief in the end.

    1. Position the default bone at <start x=0, y=0, z=0> and <end x=0, y=0, z=1>

    2. Attach the body core to a bone.

    3. Translate the entire model using the "body" bone in bones mode to center it in "x" and place the "feet" at 0 "y"

    4. Delete the entire "drivers" folder that has unused settings for the materials applied.

    5. Delete all the existing smart skins that use "muscle mode" to rotate the gears. Due to the linear interpolation method of cps that are not controlled by a bone this method of doing the "gears" animation will not work.

    6. Add bones for each gear.

    7. Set up the rotational relationships using the gear bones. you can do this using smartskin to drive it directly in your existing FK setup.

    Umm..... huh?

I don't know if I understood all of that, but thanks!

I'll post your model in a bit with this type of system applied to the right side of the jaw for you to work from. And most of the other stuff taken care of as well.

Sooo, is that the project attached to your post?

  3. (pleavens @ May 28 2005, 07:05 PM)

The models not embedded in the project.

The model has to be embedded for smartskin to work?

No. The project file you posted doesn't have a model in it. You could embed the model so it is saved in the project... the textures that are missing you might want to include also in the zip file... please.

Oh, heh, sorry 'bout that.

    Try it now.

(The textures shouldn't matter, so you can just cancel them when it asks.)

  4. Can anyone figure out why the gears shrink and grow when the "pelvice" bone is rotated? I can't figure it out. All I did was rotate the gears using the rotate tool. How can that tool do anything even related to changing the size of an object?

    (See attachment below)

  5. I've never used a cookie-cut map before. But I need to use one on a model I'm making. This model has a whole bunch of these gears on it. With the gears, the model has an insane amount of patches. (15647 to be exact  )

However, if I remove the gears, it is only 5567. So you can see why I have to do something else. My computer would burst into flames trying to render it in a scene.

So, is there any pointers on cookie-cuts?

  6. The nails and the top of the mic don't have any texture to them. I would find a texture that is similar to, but not the same, as the texture you have, so that it fits. I think it could also look better if you found a texture that was slightly different, or altered the one you have, for the bottom of the mic. As it is, while it does link the picture together, it seems kind of redundant.

  7. It's really hard to say. On the one hand, metal isn't likely to bend around like a human mouth would. On the other hand, having his mouth simply open and close would make talking really boring. Perhaps there is a comprimise?

Have you seen the movie The Iron Giant? (came out a few years ago) While he didn't talk a whole lot, I think they made his mouth move in a pretty good fashion. Course I haven't seen it in a while either...

  8. Holy cow! You're insane man, doing all that in three days? It'd take me, like, months!(and it wouldn't look as good either  )

    I think he looks awsome.

Garçon has a point, about a smaller door. Although I do think it looks cool as it is. I guess he could keep other things in there as well. :D

Anywho, keep up the great work.

  9. Oh wow! Thats weird! Thats an Avatar of mine from about 3 months ago ( I change them frequently) I don't know why your browser isn't refreshing to current images. Maybe try hitting 'refresh' or 'reload current page' button...

I can see your animating one just fine. This frame appears right around where the animation loops the second time. It is followed by a pure white frame, and the the rest of the animation. It doesn't really matter, I was just wondering what it was.

  10. I used them in version 4. Back then I could'nt get them to let me control them or to  "FUSE", "GEL" ,"MORPH", what ever you want to call it so I stopped using it iwth later versions.

I messed with 'em a little in v7, and they still weren't usefull for much, least not that I could figure out.

Can't wait 'till I get the new version! You're gonna be jealous, arencha. B)

    Hehehehehe...

  11. Woo-hoo! I made a useful suggestion!

Oh good call Shadowmaster! I would never have thought to move his ears.

Well, I have two cats. So, you know...

You could maybe perk one or both up a bit on the question also.

Yeah, I was gonna say that, but didn't...for some reason...

Otherwise, I dunno. It's looking really good.

And, it's good to not be lazy. Now all I need to do is follow that advice, and I'll be all set! :P
