  1. Eggcelent work, in fact. Sorry, but you knew one of us would stoop to punning.

Sorry - get in line with bad puns - I believe Ken & myself were the first to discredit ourselves.

    Ahh...I'm in good company then.

    Thanks for the comments people

@ Nosferatu - You shouldn't have edited out your critique. I appreciate a good critique just as much as a good job :D

Here's the gist of what I wrote. I like your attitude of wanting to hear others' perceptions.

One thing that I noticed right away was that his entire body reacts to the 1st egg before he has a chance to process that there is something to recoil from. It might look cool to have his head move first to see the egg and then a split second after that his body would recoil.

Sound-wise, the sound of his footsteps sounds like shoes on a linoleum floor. A more muffled sound would fit the scenery better, and maybe a few "scratchy" sounds as his feet slide on the ground. And a loud thump for the last egg would add weight to it, but I suspect you did it without the sound on purpose..

Thanks for showing us this inspiring piece of work.

  2. Good job, David. In fact, eggsquisite. Your moving holds are extremely well done.

I initially threw in a few critiques but I edited them out since you didn't ask for that (thought I was in WIP forum).

Great work overall. Eggcelent work, in fact. Sorry, but you knew one of us would stoop to punning.

  3. I agree with everything Alonso said, but it has a lot of potential. Now that you've laid the groundwork, you can start tweaking and you'll have a nice piece. You might want to consider moving his eyes in a more deliberate and quick way, as if he's quickly locking on to different characters' eyes.

A warning about profanity is always appreciated (children, wives, personal convictions, etc.)

Keep at it. As I said above, this (and you) have a lot of potential.

  4. Very nice and cozy environment. I would very definitely love to hang out there to do my reading! I like the organic feel.

It seems the book cases are a little high in ambience, unless there are light sources there that I can't see. It's definitely a tough one to light.

Overall an excellent piece. The tree trunk looks great. How much of that is geometry and how much is texturing?

  5. I like it! You might make the rays different lengths to avoid the flower image; you may also want to use a paler more intense disk for the sun (or put a face on it??) to make it look like light source. It does kinda look like a flower with the disk being tan like that, but it's a neat sun.

Aaah...Elena...I always considered you a woman of good taste! Your comments further prove that! :D

Actually, my plan is to do just as you suggested. I'm currently working on slowing down the flames. Next comes staggering the flame lengths and experimenting with a more stylized flame shape, and finally he will have a face modeled in. I'm going to give him that thick-lipped face that is common on grandfather clocks and Angelina Jolie.

Right now, the orb is actually red-orange, but the combination of glow and proximity to yellow flames makes it look a little washed out. That will be fixed as the lab work continues.

  6. chamfers

    Chamfers? Huh, what are those?

A chamfer is a flat edge to a corner, as opposed to a bevel which is a rounded edge.

I agree that chamfers can work pretty well in a still image, but when objects and cameras are moving around, a rounded bevel will give a much more consistent illusion of depth, IMHO.

  7. Has anyone out there used the AI plug in that comes with Animation Master? I am trying to bring in a logo from an illustrator file and I can locate the file no problem, the option dialogue box comes up, but when I hit "ok" nothing happens. The model window just sits empty. Anyone actually been able to create a 3D logo with the AI plug in?

It works for me (v. 11), but I think I have seen that problem in the past. Are you sure it's not coming in really tiny? You can tell by clicking the "Zoom Fit" button (or press shift+Z). THis will cause the model to fill the window.

Did you try just saving the selected vector outline to ai, or did you save the whole document? I use Corel Draw and I first select the vector, and then export as an ai file.

Let us know how you make out.

  8. I notice that every time I return back to the forums, every single time only the "Software Tutorials" folder is marked as read (light blue). So, for example, if I read the posts in the General forum, it is not marked as read, yet the "Tutorials" folder is always marked as read.

Is this a setting we have control over or a bug?

    Thanks,

  9. This chunk of threaded rod (1.4 in. diameter) is cut from a larger assembly I'm working on. If it would help anyone, I can make it available for uploading.

    Rodger,

I would be most grateful if you would make it available. Thanks for the offer!
