1. Marvelous Books, the backs especially have such depth and realism

One thing that gives the CG away for me, are the sharp corners of the open books pages. Not the 2 open pages, I think they look great. If your going for a old book that has never been opened, maybe the corners of the pages would be perfect. As David mentioned the slight stairstep that would appear on the edge as well as misalignment of these chunks top to bottom as the binding wears with use (or misuse).

    just my untrained crit.

  2. I like the lazer etching effect and the trailing glow (not the right word I think) on the Logo. The lense flare and the particles drifting off are a nice touch.

Being a CG hobbiest and a newbie to A:M, I curious how much of the finished visuals were done in A:M as a complete render and how much was done by compositing, post processing (photoshop....) and such. Sometime I beat my CG head against a not so CG wall trying to do things, not knowing some of the alternatives that are available.

Very Nice (and the test clip too!)

  3. I use to subscribe to the mailing list, but the Forum is much better IMO. There aren't enough hours in a day for me, so I have to do what I can with the time I can squirrel away.

It appears if you don't sign off with any new unread posts or replies, when you sign in again, the Icons will indicate which posts are new since the last time you were logged in.

When I'm logged in for long periods of time, all I have to do to check for new posts is go to the main page and refresh my screen to see wich forum topics have new posts or replies (highlited IBP icon).

Unfortunately, I can't always stay logged in till I read all the new posts and replies, but I try.

  4. Just logged in and Icons showing new posts, logged out and then back in with out clicking the latest news link and all the icons are dimmed indicating no new posts or replies.

Guess I've always stayed logged in till I read all the new posts and replies. (some times I just take up space)

  5. you are right about the envelopes Bakerrod, they indicate new replies or no new replies and the "IBP" icon indicates new post or no new posts in each of the Forums.

I tried it again this morning and WIP, SHOWCASE, OT, FORUM SUPPORT, V11.0 Beta, v10.5 for OS X Alpha (you get the idea) IBP icons were all active (not dimmed). I went to Forum Support to check the reply to this thread and then went back to the main page were everything was the same except for the "IBP" icon for Forum Support which was now dimmed indicating no new posts (because I had just looked at all the new posts in there).

This is the way it has worked in the past for me. Just to test what I did last night, I clicked on the latest news link at the top of the forums list, read it and returned to the main page to find all the icons dimmed and all the envelopess in all the forums that I had not looked at yet also dimmed.

This may be the way the system functions, I quess I just won't use the latest news link at the top and I should be fine keeping up with what I've read and haven't.

    Thanks for the input

  6. First the short version:

Why would all the posts show as dimmed envelops and "ipb" icons when I have only read one post from today?

    The details:

When I logged into the Forum this evening, there were as usual a number of new posts and new replies to ongoing discusions. These are indicated on the main page by the "ipb" icon and on the sub topic pages by the colored envelops. I clicked the link at the top of the main page that take one to the "latest news" (most resent post I believe). I then logged out as I had some things to take care of. Upon logging back into the Forum, all the "ipb" icons (except Animation:Master Forum which I am way behind in) and envelops were dimmed, indicating that there were no unread posts. I only read one post from today and there are quite a few with todays date.

I am running XP Pro with IE 6. Have not changed any settings, cleared any cache or deleted any cookies.

I'm searching by date now to see what I've missed

  7. The bare batch in forehead is from redoing a spline now the mat won't reapply..any suggestions?

    Hey Pengy,

I think you can fix the bare patch by selecting the group that it used to belong to, then hold the shift key down and select each CP in the affected area and along the edge. This will add them back into the group. You may have to save, close the project and re-open for it to appear correct.

    Keep splining

  8. Microsoft put out a Free Gif Animator program, it's hard to find sometimes. Here a link that was working. It can make quite good animated Gif's, including Delta Gif animations. http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/11/3/2/11-3-2-57.shtml Here is another free one I have used. It is less robust, but very small (28K) and is a self contained exe that does not need to be installed. http://www.whitsoftdev.com/unfreez/ and last, here is a link to a web page that contains a number of gif animators. Don't know if they are free or not and none of which I have ttried. The site does have a lot of useful info on gif's though. 9. Sorry for the intrusion. I pickup the thread via Animaster mail list and there was no mention of this referencing the Alpha software. I've since joined the Forum, so I can check the topic before responding and sounding like an idiot.

    Later
