  1. Just guessing, but I'd vote for them caching on a server someplace with a 4 day timeout because the e-mail notification was sent before you read it, but just didn't make it to you. Might want to verify e-mail server settings for the forums. A good way to troubleshoot an issue like this is to ssh (if available) into the web server running these forums and try manually sending an e-mail using the current settings. Then, check the lots for every hop you have control over. If you see the e-mail leave the local server, then it is out of your control and being queued on the upstream mail server.. at which time, you might want to check if the settings are up to date or if your upstream provider has changed server settings that were never updated for the forums.

Of course, this is all speculation without actually seeing it personally.

  2. At 1 hr per frame render on the average 2.4ghz PC it's a costly experiment!

1 hr per frame? How much RAM do you have, it sounds like your machine might be paging. My 2.66Ghz is doing them at around 30 min per frame. But my 3.2Ghz can't do them at all because it only has 1GB of RAM, and for some reason it won't take any more (label says 1GB PROMO sooo).

  3. Ok.. since I have 3 machines that are giving this error, yet they seem to be rendering fine.. I will explain what I am doing. I have just about given up on getting WebRender to run under Linux using Wine.. so I grabbed a Bart PE boot CD and checked it out. Here is what I am currently doing. As Bart PE requires a Windows XP license, it's not the best solution, but for me, we have a site license, so it's not an issue.

On machines that are going to get wiped out anyway, I am using the C: drive to store the tmptwodata and rendered frames. On machines I'd prefer not to touch the C: of, I am using a 1GB USB key. As long as it is attached to the machine on bootup, Bart PE sees the drive fine. I then browse to a network share and install WebRender to the D: Drive (USB Key). It gives an error saying it needs 150 K bytes free on the X: drive (ROM drive) that you can ignore. Once it's installed, I run the v15WebRenderStuff.exe from the network share as well. This gives a Lip Sync error message, but again, nothing to worry about.

Now, I believe the minimum RAM requirements are 1.5GB +, as a 1GB machine, after booting Bart PE only has 870MB left for WebRender and that isn't enough.

I haven't tried running WebRender from the USB key without going through the installation to the USB key yet.. I'll try that out and see what happens when I get a few minutes.

Also, the utility used to create a Bart PE boot CD has a ton of options, I haven't played with it yet, but it might even have the option to have WebRender and the WebRenderStuff pre-installed on the Bart PE boot CD.

  4. Webrender question that I thought I would piggyback, as it doesn't really warrant a new thread. On a "fresh" XP machine, I get this error on startup of the Render Messenger:

    Render Slave

    Unable to load plug-in [c:\tmp\WebRender\ImageIOs\AVI.iio],

The specified module could not be found.

And if it's not obvious, it's install path was c:\tmp\WebRender.

I have a machine that gave this error, but seems to be rendering fine. Would the output of a machine that receives this error be effected by the error?

EDIT: Oh.. btw, the file is actually there.

  5. Well, since everyone already took the easy ones.. and were general enough to cover pretty much all the vehicle ranges.. And the fact that it doesn't have the tilt in the front to help get over things.. I'm going to stake my claim to the robot family. ;)

  6. Well, I don't think the porn industry has anything to say about it. If you've watched any true HD content (not upconverted content) you will notice that you can see a lot more flaws in people. Add those flaws to the porn industry and you have a whole lot of porn nobody wants to watch. ;)

Anyway, before rendering anything, ask the company that will be writing it to HD-DVD what exactly the format needs to be, and how you should provide it to them. I would assume if it won't fit onto a data DVD that you would have to cut it up into sections and burn it to a bunch of DVDs for them to reassemble in their shop. Of course, that all depends on how much content you have. Last I read, the average HD movie is 20-30GB in size, not including extra stuff.

  7. I've tried that (right-click/suspend, and then activate) as well as closing and starting it up again. I've tried deleting and recreating the tworender and temptwodata folders.. nothing seems to work. I've tried all of my slave handles and none of them work (jzawacki, jzawacki2, jzawacki3, etc).. so I just assumed I wasn't in queue or there was a pause in webrendering. I'll fire it up on a machine at work tomorrow and see if it starts up there. If my handles work there, I will uninstall and reinstall fresh.

Hoping to get it working in the next few days.. I have three more ENG machines in the process of being ordered.

  8. We'll just have to wait and see.. there are two ways to look at it.. First, if they really "lose", then there should be a bunch of HD-DVDs in the discount bin for cheap.. Time to pick some up.. :)

Second, if Sony does win, they will be able to stop giving the $4 per movie discount. That would in turn cause the cost per Blueray disc to go up. Being a monopoly on HD discs, they will be able to do whatever they want with the prices.. Hopefully it will be at that point that people realize that Sony is evil and HD-DVDs may be reborn. We'll just have to wait and see.

  9. Since you are doing this as a tool or technique in your professional work, that takes it out of the "non-profit educational" realm (#1). I presume you are getting paid for your work as a psychologist.

People do get paid working at non-profit organizations. It just has to be filed as a non-profit to fit into that criteria. As long as the work is deemed "owned" by the non-profit organization and not a for-profit, it would be fine.

But, getting permission is always the best method.. And like it was already stated, most would give you permission. It's only if you get a denied request that it would matter. Of course, the only way for them to stop you from doing what you want will cost both parties a crap load of money.

  10. I think it's the bulge.. I'm not sure.. Could it be that they pop backwords when the leg is strait? I can't say for sure.. I just know they look freaky.. And for some reason.. I "feel" a pop in there.. Wish I could help more by explaining it better.
