  1. Thanks everyone!

I am quickly approaching the moment where I need to incorporate the bridge into my model and scene.

I guess I got a bit gunshy because David Roger's excellent book says to avoid internal patches and if I built this as a single tube with a floor inside of it, that would be a bad internal patch, right?

But the idea of two models sitting on top of one another makes sense, as does the setting patches to "transparent."

I am trying to keep a strange personal record going by following all of the advice and rules I learn from this list - Since I started modeling in A:M 10.5 (2003) Mac OS 9 Classic running within Panther (approximately 6 weeks) I have had no crashes.

(but there are weird quirks, like no selection boundaries and I haven't done anything beyond modeling, but still, great work Randy and company!)

    BTW

The image is from the anime Read or Die. Really great video and done digitally. Now if we could just get them to do it in A:M.

Here is my review of the anime (with a Quicktime preview that has the bridge in it):

  2. Hi everyone,

I would like advice and opinions on production strategies.

I have created a storyboard for a project, and I have scenes that take place outside a vehicle and inside the same vehicle.

As a set designer, if I were doing this as miniatures/models for a shoot, I would create two models - one exterior and one cut-away interior. I am leaning towards that approach in A:M based on the thinking that it will be easier to model and faster to render.

But I am newbie, so I am willing to learn and change :D

    Enlighten me please!

    Paul

  3. I am happy with my latest and greatest 15" PowerBook for the moment and I have had no problem running A:M in Panther's Classic Environment so far. This machine does not boot into OS 9 so that is my only option. (now you may place your bets on how posts about problems I will be making in the next week having said that.)

But I am drooling for a G5 and will probably get one in summer or fall. It would be fantastic to have an A:M running happily on Panther (with 64 bit optimization please since you don't have anything else to worry about :D ).

Most importantly though is getting a G5 into Randy's hands - then I think we will really see things shaking and baking!

slightly more than 2 cents worth,

    Paul

  4. I would say that most Apple folks (including myself) would rather have it say IBM PowerPC or G4/G5.

Motorola starts my gut a rollin' ;-)

    BTW:

    Full setup..

    Machine 1: (A:M Machine)

    PowerBook G4 1.25GHz/640 MB RAM/80GB internal HD + 1TB external RAID

    OS 10.3.2

    Machine 2:

    G4 Cube 450 MHz/640 MB RAM/20GB internal + 120GB external HD

    OS 10.2.8

    Machine 3:

IBM PC Server 325 2x300 PII processor/320 MB RAM/4x36 GB 10,000RPM UltraWide SCSI

Windows 2000 Pro & Red Hat Linux 8

  5. Hello everyone!

Just completed enough of my very first model in A:M (actually very first anything beyond the cube in David Roger's book). Thought I would follow the Japanese schoolchild's axiom "Boys Be Ambitious!" and shoot for the stars. Or in my case, the space animation contest.

This is the attacker's space ship for a space scene. I wanted an organic/technical feel that appeared dangerous and so I ended up with a rocket propelled crab of sorts. I am pretty happy with it as it stands. Needs more tweaking and color but I think you will get the drift.

The white triangles at the back are where the engines go.

This is the very first 3D thing beyond ball and stick chemistry molecular models and absolute first thing in A:M I have ever done, so please be gentle :-)

    Thanks,

    Paul M.
