  1. I am hoping that the tool becomes more accurate or another developer comes up with a better solution. Right now it seems like it's in the functional stage. Stian, ever since HashBash I've been jealous of your nokia! setting up renders and monitoring status of the renders is an excellent use of this kind of tech. You could remote into any one of your render machines and see what it is up to.

  2. Well, I just updated the software for my ipod Touch and one of the new free applications is VNC Client for the ipod which lets me connect to my PC and control it! Awesome. I wondered if I could do anything within A:M, and the answer is yes! However the touch controls are too imprecise right now and it is really not a good idea. But it was so much fun that I have to share!

For those who don't know what VNC is, it was essentially created as a tool for hackers, Ahem, system administrators to remotely control their desktop through a virtual window. The picture of the desktop is sent over the network and that is what is being displayed on the ipod's VNC client application.

  3. I was worried those modular homes would end up looking like this screen from Riven, but as long as they are going to be colorful and have additional features, i'm happy with the direction they are going. I just dont want anyone to say that we copied from somewhere else

  4. Usually when there is a file error like this, the only way to fix it is to go in an manually edit it with a text editing program. However I have heard that if you send a copy to the support team at HASH, they might be able to recover it for you.

  5. Here is a model I created based off the Anime character Aisha in "Outlaw Star". She is more of a Beast-type than the traditional cat-type. (OK I am showing my uber nerdyness here)

I have an older Cat-girl model I made and animated a while back (2000?) and I will post it later when I can find the files.

  6. Changing hair colour along the length broke in v14 - I put in a report in November, and someone else has put in a report in January. So I guess it will be fixed in time.

Well I'm glad it's already been reported. Seems like a lot of the 0-100% attributes on Hair locks is totally missing in v15, but there for Normal hair. However they won't render in either case. :( bummer.

I'm not hurting to do hair renders anytime soon, but it was one of my favorite features to play with.

  7. I'm not trying to start trouble. I'm just finding out if I need to make a more detailed report on hair in general.

I'm not getting the hair color to vary over the length of the hair, for either Locks or the New hair. I've had a simple gradient at Black at 0% and white at 100% and tried from 2 to 10 control points, and still no luck.

  8. I can't get them to render in v14 either. As Matt says, they're the old way and are low priority. Can't you do it with new hair?

Well, part of my fears have been removed. Hair locks do render in v15. There are some graphical glicthes but I'm not sure what's causing them yet. Will post updates soon and will file a an AM report

  9. so, whatever ended up in the boolean hole was also cut out by the boolean object.

    There's a way around that...

Make the stuff 'in the hole' weighted to a bone that is a child of the boolean bone...and they do not get cut away!

Thanks John, I'll have to try that next time. I figured there was a way to do it, but it seems to render pretty well with the cookie cutter for right now. Progressive renders look kinda weird however :)

  10. I tested all three ways you described. Boolean was the most obvious choice, however when doing so, whatever ended up in the boolean hole was also cut out by the boolean object. Modeling the hole would have taken a substantial amount of time.... The solution with the best results was the cookie cutter!! Using an extra cookie cutter image for texture color helped me align the fan objects into place.

  11. I don't have v15 installed on anything that I can use at work so I was hoping that someone else can test this for me until I get home.

In v14.0a A:M 2007. I was able to create a hair lock material and apply it to a spline, no probs. It also rendered fine in progressive render mode. However the problem happens when I use final render mode or when I try to render to disk. When using final render AM will "go away" and I have to restart AM. In Render to disk I get the mysterious Exception #10.

Again, I have not verified this with v15. If it still has the same issue I will file an official AM bug report. In the mean time, anyone know why hair locks are somewhat hidden? (eg: shift clicking when creating a hair material instead of it's own particle material menu item?)

  12. I just purchased 1 seat of the Hash 2008 Web Subscription. I'm liking it so far, but I've always been a fan of A:M.

Speaking of Fans.... here is something I've been working on over the last couple of days. The real tricky part was actually figuring out how to make a hole in the wall for the fan assembly. There are several ways to do this but I would like to give the Hash Forum community a couple chances to guess what technique I used before exposing my final solution. :D

  13. I just made my reservations! I had told Martin that I wanted to attend, and I just now got confirmation from my human resources dept. Yay Beauracracy!

In any case I'm looking forward to meeting old friends and meeting new ones. I hope Martin's house isn't full up yet but I am prepared to bring a tent and sleeping bag if necessary.

  14. DIG!

    I like the motion blur!

But- for some reason, when I hear the term 'liger' I think of Napolean Dynamite...

It's pretty much my favorite mech. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... built for its skills in magic.

Man you had me laughing so hard on that. But yes, The Liger Zero is one of my favorite's too.

I have my fair share of ZOIDS and transformers

  15. This is a model that I started a couple years back for the Siggraph cloth demos, however I didnt have enough time to get a successful project going but I kept him around because I liked the posture. Well here he is now with a full set of wings, new schnoz and tail. I will post more replies later with wireframes and progression pics. I hope you enjoy.

The wing skin isn't quite attached yet. I just threw it in there so it wouldn't look so bad. The slow process of stitching it into the wings will eventually be done.

  16. Dhar, i am so so sorry, just keep your saved version of woot.

I am saving the last model that was updated before I touched it. I will then commit that model. It should then allow you to commit? Does it make sense? I hope it works.

You should then be able to commit and overwrite it. I hope.
