Exercise 11: the dreaded Giraffe
Instructor: the book and Rodney (thanks for the c/f/a help)
Remarks: a bit trickier by far. the only real problem I had, besides messing up the c/f/a that got solved in another thread, was some of the 5 point patches gave me fits before they'd allow me to click the patch button. I had to shift-click the 5 cp's over and over sometimes before the patch button would be available. Also, the decal stratches horribly and missed a couple places on the model..but I know thats from a lack of flattening that I'll learn about eventually. Just for the heck of it I tried a toon render and it actually looks ok.

Heh, good idea Rodney. We should call it the IncrediblySmartSheet instead.

Yes you're right. Then you'd have to add an orchestra blast to make everyone jump out of their seats... too much for the very beginning of the movie.

Looks cool so far! As for DOF have you considered having the near faucet be in focus with the background fuzzy, then as the camera tracks, shift the focus to the far faucet with the foreground fuzzy? That could affect the impact of the camera move. Especially with the sounds in place, we'd hear the running water the whole time but only see the burgeoning droplet at first. Just a thought. Nice work!

Exercise: #9, Flower Power
Instructor: the manual
Remarks: went pretty good, the only problem I had initially was the picture in the manual of the duplicate dialog has the copy and extrude switches reverse of how they actually are. The petals looked mighty strange extruded! Otherwise, I'm very impressed with how easy the modelling and rigging was, even though it's not a complicated model. It gives me hope for the future! It even made my flowers boogie down!

Good job Paula, I like your secondary motion.

Back from vacation and jumping back in!
Lesson 7!
Instructor: the fine manual
Remarks: Went pretty easy over all. Noticed that the book says the words "I've" and "Didn't" won't be recognized by the dope sheet, but they were. Made it even easier! Moving on.
(right-click, save as..)

Lesson 6 done! I wanted to add more takes to it, but my time is severely limited this week and I'm going out of town for a week-and-a-half starting Sunday. Maybe I'll get a chance to tweak it some before then.
Name: Steve Nicholas
Exercise: # 6
Instructor: le book and all y'all
Comments: several things I'd like to add, maybe at some point I will. Hope you like it.

If you can keep the file size under 1Meg, you can upload your movies straight to the forum. Another handy feature of this place.

Heh, I saw the production notes in the book, but thought they were part of the next lesson. They start on the page after you do the final render for lesson 5. Anyways, I am going to do more with the bunny-walk, it was just too late last night and I didn't even notice his blank stare until after I watched my final movie the 2nd time...I guess I was watching his feet too closely.

Well #5 is done. It's a pretty basic walk that I may tinker with later. I do want to do some secondary motion on him as he looks like an unblinking zombie-rabbit at the moment.

#4 completed.
It seems to go pretty fast. I tried to select and move some of the keyframes to lengthen the poses a bit. but could only move them up and down, not side to side on the timeline.
Well, here's the pitch anyways..

Well, here's my exercise 2! Poor Shaggy is a clutz in mine I'm afraid.
# Completed: 2!
Instructor: the manual, Rodney and pretty much everyone else here.
Comments: Lovin' it so far, ready to take on #3.

Hi!
Well I got my copy today and jumped right in to lesson 1.
Name: Steve Nicholas
Lessons completed: #1
Date Completed: 6 May, 2005
Comments: Well, I just kind of figured out the basics of the timeline by trial and error...mostly error. I messed with the various pose sliders at the end..makes him look a little insane.

Heh, thanks. A little update, I got notified that my copy shipped today...so the wait officially starts.

Shading comes to mind foremost to me. I took your still life pic and photoshopped in a little shading on a new layer and rendered a light source from the upper left. Maybe you could add a bump map to your floor tile surface for a little extra depth, umm, you can also use the text to cover any blank or dead spots in the picture. Maybe add curtains or shutters on the window frame to dress it up a bit. I know your pain in dealing with clients. I often will get free reign on a project until I show them something, then they suddenly become graphic designers with all sorts of suggestions for improvement. Keep at it though, I think you can turn this into something you'll like.
