  1. Your characters must be around 1 cm tall. This is somewhat dependent on the complete scene but 1cm is the scaling factor that is required to run Torque. This can cause some problems with actions. The characters must be rotated. Actions should be done after scaling and rotation. I use a Mac and have alot of probllems running Torque. If you are on a PC, things should be better. I am stuck wiht Torque as all my characters have been made using AM and I use a MAC. The worst of all worlds. If you do have more questions, I would be glad to help you any way I can.

  2. I have been looking at torque on the MAC the last few months. I have found serveral problems. The documentation is very poor and sometimes out of date. The forum is somewhat better. One of the problems appears to be keyboard input. On my system, keyboard commands do not always work. (like rotations and others). Most of the examples from the web or from books do not work without requiring somekind of change to the script. It seems to be a mix of information from different versions of the TGE. It is not organized at all. There very little information on programming in C++; most of the information is about using scripts. I have got some things to work using scripts. For the most part I have done some things using the the First Person shooter mode of operation for my own characters. I donot rreally understand what a 3rd person games does as you have no dirrect control of the game

There are serveral problems with the AM to DTS convertor that I have found. The biggest problems is that the conversion programs does not work with dual core MACs and V13. To use V13 the only MAC I have is a dual core machine. Therefore, all my work has been using V12 and there are alot of problems with the V12 conversion problem. Scaling seems to distort the actions. I have no ideal why this happens but the bones get very distorted at times. This doesnot happen all the time but it does happen. It appears the actions must be done after scaling. I cannot scale down an action that was done when the model was the orginal size. Torque usea a 1 cm as a scaling base line. There are some holes in the converted AM model. i think this has been corrected in the V13 version that doesnot work on dual core machines.

The .cfg file MUST BE MADE on the MAC. The sample provide with the conversion program was make on a windows machine and will not run correctly on the MAC. It is important for exporting mounting, eye, and camera bones.

I do enjoy working with the torque program but I can say with alot of programming experience, that the organization of information is very poor. I have done nothing with the TWO stuff. Two is using V13 and at this point in time, I cannot use V13 (which I have) and the TWO models.

If you have any more detailed questions. I would be happy to response.

  3. I have been looking into programming with the torque game engine. I work on the MAC and had have some problems using the torque game engine. I have had some problems using the AM to DTS convertor. I do scale the models to 1 cm; but in the first person torque game mode, the model is large. This happens with the THOM model, also. The Torque forum says there is something wrong with the eye or cam nodes. For the most part I have had problems with Torque working as it is suppose to.

I updated to V13 at the comic con. I hope to get on board with this lastest version.

I have been programming for many, many years and hope to be of some help in this project. Is there any other MAC user that has problems getting the game engine to work as specified?

  4. I am still interested in doing some programming work. I did download the Torque Show tool Demo. I am a MAC user and I could not load any dts files. No files of any type show up in the directory window. Also the directory name changes from the correct path name to just "project name". I did contact the maker but have not received any reply as what the problem may be.

  5. I would like to do something on this game project. I have extra time (alot) and have a large number of years doing programming. Also, I am interested in the exporter. I would like to help where ever I can be of help. I am not much of a gamer but do enjoy using Animation Master.
