  1. The engine is almost modelled, it's passable. Just need to plumb the radiator into it. I now know why people always model cars, bikes have allot more mechanical detail on show, tougher to model. I'll get some other views posted soon.

  2. Hi all,

I've been modelling this while learning AM, still got a few stickers to add, This bike is partly my design with inspiration taken from existing motogp bikes.

I've probably overdone the bloom a little but it's close to finished.

    Thoughts and comments welcome,

    Geoff

    Modelled in AM 10.5r

  3. I've got a scene with allot of particles. The render time is massive if the quality setting is final. The particles look exactly the same if rendered using shaded and they render in minutes. The problem shaded only produces a solid black alpha channel so I can't composite them. Is it possible to get shaded quality to produce a correct alpha channel?

It's very good. I started on AutoCAD then learnt max, been using max at work for a year and have started using AM for freelance and personal projects. You can pretty much do anything in AM you can do in max (some things better). Your AutoCAD modelling should help you, as switching between poly and spline modelling is the hardest step with AM. Switching from solid modelling it might not be as hard.

Hope this is of some help.

Becoming french, that's an idea I could strike when I wanted my computer upgraded.

"It sounds like, if you were given the time, that you could crank out some impressive stuff"

It could be unimpressive stuff but you never know.

Sorry Simon for hijacking your thread, good luck with anything you glean from our ramblings

  6. Well not quite in Wiltshire, I commute from Wiltshire to Bristol in the day doing 3D stuff for the aircraft industry. Not great pay but a start. Only problem is I can't show any of my work to anyone without security clearence.

So I also have the same no current showreel problem. My solution to the no time problem is not to sleep as much, but that's far from ideal. What I really need is a 3 day a week job or enough freelance.

  7. Thanks for the reply.

I'm trying to get 10.5o to run smoothly on my Tyan tiger MP system with a Geforce 4 and 512mb Ram Which seems to go well with most other apps. It has almost every pci slot filled. I get the feeling win2k doesn't share irqs as well as it claims.

I suspect non standard video card drivers are Hash's weekness. It would good to see Nvidia Hashtreme quadro drivers. And some guidence on Open GL settings for graphics cards would be good.

I might try stripping it down to the bare bones to see how hash goes. I use 3d studio max at work on a dell box and it is pretty bullet proof (at least 1 crash a day). I want to produce some character animation with hash for my next show-reel but the crashes are frustrating my learning and efforts (although even with the crashes it's still quicker than character modelling and rigging in max).

    Thanks for the advice

seems dells are a good idea.
