  1. Thanks everyone for the help, I won't change the way I make models then, but I just got the book "Animation:Master The Complete Guide", so it might change a few things I do, hehe I'll try the gradient thing you mentionned, the link is down because the site is down I think, but it's alright, I'll find something on the net.
  2. Hi, I'm trying to make this model's mouth, but as you can see on the left side, it sorta dies down to a grey-er shade, I'm trying to keep it as look-alike as much as possible, is there a way to, say, start as a color and have it slowly change into another at some point? Another thing, I don't necessarily know how to use Photoshop, nor do I have any drawing talents whatsoever. Latent or potent. And rather than draw a mouth, eye, anything really that isn't 3D and make it a decal on a model, I basically just draw it with splines, render as lines and add colors to it. I've been doing this for a while and I wanna know if it's frowned upon, for lack of a better term, or should I absolutely go out there and learn how to draw to use Photoshop and use these as decals? If it's a bad way to model, I wanna get rid of this practice before I can't shake it off and it gets stuck with me. Thanks for the answer, it's a good thing to know there are boards you can turn to for help when all else fails
  3. Thanks everyone for your help, I got how to make three point patches, but it doesn't fix my problem, for some reason the CPs won't hook at certain spots, maybe because I already have two or three CP connected to one, I don't know. I think I'm better off just trying to redo the shape, it'll be a lot less trouble. Still, I learned something, isn't that what counts?
  4. Does that mean I'll need to make 3 splines and hook them together? Because I tried that and it doesn't render. Unless I'm doing something wrong... again...
  5. Hi everyone. I'm trying to model this very basic shape, whatever it is, and I somehow made a 3-point patch, I've no idea how, but I need to do it again, I checked on boards and in TAOM but there's no mention of 3-point patches. All I got is "a patch must be composed of at least 3 points, but no more than 4." If I draw a simple 3-point spline, it won't make a patch when I change to Shaded mode, but this one does, I copied the three splines and pasted them a little farther in my image to show what I mean. Another thing I noticed about that is that the copied version seems to be, very clearly, fatter than the original. The shape wasn't altered in any way. I thought at first it's because I made a three-point spline, copy/pasted it, move it and added hooks to the CPs to make it shaded, but this happened when I was hooking CPs to one another to make 4-point patches. I've been turning my model over itself a hundred times for the past hour and I don't know what the heck I did. Granted I could add more CPs to simple it out, but I'd rather take a lesson from this mistake and either prevent it, or fix it in the near future, should it point it's ugly head again. Thanks in advance for taking time to help.
  6. Thanks for the help, Basically what I'm trying to shape is like an elephants foot, but with sort of a bump at the end, like a stub. I'll try making it with less splines, but I added so many because I wanted to do a perfect circle, but I'm sure I can work around it with less splines. And I'll post as jpg from now on I'll try that and give you an update
  7. Hey that worked, thanks for the tip, but I managed to hit another snag, here's a pic, I wish I would stop making these mistakes. Preferably than just giving me the solution, I'd appreciate it if someone told me what causes these things to happen, I do them all the time and I don't know how to prevent them. Again, thanks for any and all help. untitled.bmp
  8. It's probably something really stupid that everyone knows how to fix but me, of course, I'd really appreciate any help. I've attached a file to show my issue, see the little black things on the side of my mode? I want them gone, makes rendering fuzz, how do I fix it? Thanks in advance for any help. untitled.bmp
  9. Even if I wanted to do it again I probably couldn't, lol. I'll take your advice and add more splines to my shape and verify the direction of my normals, but I feel I should mention I'm using V.10.5 2003. Maybe get a more latest version would help my case. Thanks again for all your help.
  10. Hey, was wondering if you guys could clue me in again. I did the cutter thing and it works, looks like, but I get this weird result, I've added two pics to explain the result, 1 is in Modeling and 2 is in Choreography. 3 is the item itself, closed off at both ends. You guys know what's causing this? 1.bmp
  11. Thanks a lot for the help heyvern, I read carefully what you wrote and I was able to recreate what you did with the big orange rectangle myself. I had the circles closed and all, I can't figure out what I had done wrong, I think it had something to do with the boolean cutter, or I didn't render it to see the results. Like you said, you can't see the results in Shaded. I'll take your advice and read on more about cutters, figure it properly before I try the pumpkin again. Much appreciated people
  12. http://www.digitalproducer.com/pages/jack_...tion_master.htm I tried this tutorial about 7 times now, I follow it word for word and I keep hitting the same snag over and over, I sail smoothly through it then I hit the part where I'm supposed to see the inside of my pumpkin through the eyes; nose and mouth. I keep reading over and over and try different things but it just doesn't want to work. One thing I don't get, is the face supposed to be the color of the inside of the pumpkin? Or is it some "window" effect through the facial features I need to create? Knowing that would help a great deal. I really wanna do this thing properly, I've been at it for so long giving up on it isn't an issue anymore, any help would be greatly appreciated.
  13. I was making the pumpkin tutorial and made a mouth that I can't seem to "close to make rendering surfaces", as the tutorial states. I added a picture, any help would be greatly appreciated since all my previous attempts ended up with some grotesquely weird results. I really hope someone can help. Thanks for your time.

    Pose help

Thanks for the help, it did help me, I thought I was missing something but what it all boils down to is the same.
  15. Hi, I'm following a pretty cool tutorial on how to make a double helix, but I hit a snag. I don't think I have the same version as the author and I don't know how to twist the helix as he says, I added the link and a pic as reference. Can anyone help me on how to find exactly what he's doing? Or an (simple) alternative I could do? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you. http://www.digitalproducer.com/pages/creat...n_animation.htm (Under "DO THE TWIST") Pose.bmp Selecting "Percentage" opens up a link under "Relationships" which isn't what I'm looking for and On/Off just adds more link under action.
  16. Awesome, thanks a lot for the help, it was troubling me for some time.
  17. Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to make the extrusion come out in a straight line and not go up like in the picture, I checked and tweaked some settings but nothing works. extrude.bmp
  18. Hey I got a question, in about 8 seconds in the video you fill in the empty squares around the arm, how'd you do that? I get those sort of holes all the time. And OMFG I NEVER SAW SOMEONE MODEL SO FAST BEFORE!!!!!!!!
  19. Hi again, sorry for the long-time no answer (you know... women...) So anyhoo, the CD came with a box, not manual, but that was in the description on Ebay, I had to download the PDF file "The Art of Animation:Master." The CD has a tiny woman and a hulking, hairy, medi-evil-ish couple on it, same as the loading screen when I start the app. Also, the last two links posted don't work, it seems to be what I need. Would be greatly appreciated if posted again. Thanks for the help.

    Gradient

I tried this tutorial of a pumpkin I found online, everything going great until I hit the part where (as far as I got it right) I need to use a gradient to put on my pumpkin like some sort of skin? But the toturial didn't say how to access this gradient menu, and all I got from the Forums is just that. That gradient is some sort of a skin or colour thing I need to apply on my model? I'm using AM 2003 v. 10.5o. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really wanna complete this model since it's my first one and it's lookig pretty kick ass... for a pumpkin... Thanks for the help.
  22. I did click on View > Library, it's on the left but there's nothing in it, even the arrow named up is grayed out. And I checked on the CD for the Data > Models folder but it's just not there, there isn't even a Data folder, I'm starting to wonder if this CD might be a stupid, messed up crack, I hope not But really all I need until I can get ahold of the guy that sold me the software is some sort of model I can download or something. Anything to get me moving forward in the tutorials. Thanks for your time.
  23. Hi, I'm new to this program, I used it a bit in high school some 5 years ago and saw it on Ebay and decided to buy it since I had so much fun with it. I started doing the tutorial on the CD that came with it, but it keeps telling me to open models in the Library folder as several locations in the tutorial, but I don't have any Models in the said folder, I tried mailling the person who sold me the software (package and all) but didn't get an answer. So I was wondering if there's somewhere I can download a Model, any model, just so I can try the "Chorus Line" and "Baseball Throw" exercices. It's really hard trying to learn how to move bones when you don't have a model to experience on. I hope someone can help me quick, Thanks for your help.
