1. I started off this little adventure making a 3D version of an Al Gore caricature I have. I wanted to animate him singing Paul Shanklin's hilarious "Al Gore Paradise". But, as you can see below, drawings are usually made with two dimensions in mind. So with only a side view available, I did the best I could.

At the same time I was making my first head model, and I'm still surprised, because I have always been in awe that people could make a model by making only half of the model.

Unfortunately, Al Gore will have to wait. In the meantime, I have a nifty start on a gnome/leprechaun (can't believe I spelled that right) thing. So, why not? It's my first head model, why not make it my first fully-rigged character? I need the practice.

  2. I have a one-button mouse, and I can't make hooks work. I press [~] while clicking, and it just adds a new CP. [~] does work, though, for joining two CPs together. For fun, I also tried Control-~, Option-~, Shift-~, and Command-~, and some combinations too.

I'm still new to A:M-ing on a Mac. Can anyone help?

  3. Would it be possible to stretch a light out by putting it in a model, add some non-patch-making splines, and stretching it in the Choreography? Or will the emitted light still come from a circular point? If you tried it with Z-buffered shadows, would the shadow map be stretched, making the same effect?

  4. I know that questions like this pop up often, but...

Is there a kind soul out there that would be willing to put together a medium-quality Yugo Koral (Tempo) car model? (photos)

It would have to be medium-to-high quality on the inside, medium-to-low quality on the inside. The interior in the back seat would only need to be low-quality. I would take care of the texturing myself (with the aid of well-labeled groups, and many of them).

Quality-wise, it has to hold up to a live background (shot on DV) in which it is mainly seen from the front in close-up, with some medium and long shots of the rest.

I am using it in a short film I am working on for school, in which an actual Yugo was not available, in case you were wondering.

If anyone would be willing to help me with this, I'd be much obliged.

  5. I am unable to download the OS X Alpha 11, it times out every time I try to. I've never gotten past about 6 MB, both with the Java thing and the direct link. My Alpha 10 doesn't work, and my Alpha 9 has expired. So, if this could be fixed, that'd be great.

  6. I gave up searching with page 8, but this image is another place in the world from which I posted the glass/metal/white Information Desk picture back in November.

  7. Okay, I've been happily using Alpha 9 until just now when I started it up and it said my "Software trial has expired! Contact Hash, Inc. to order or update." Um, it's an alpha. Not a demo. And I have an A:M CD, else it wouldn't start in the first place. So...yeah...and I installed Alpha 10 and it didn't work. I'll try again, but this is strange. How is the OS X version coming along, anyway? [EDIT] I see Alpha 11 is out. I'll just check that out instead.

  8. I have version 10.5o, and I can't find the options for Photon Mapping. How do I do Photon Mapping? I've read Yves' website about it, but there's no "click here to do this" step-by-step information.

  9.
From: Rhett <mordredc@mac.com> mordredc@mac.com Date: 2003-12-28 19:42:23 I've run into all these except #4 while running under Classic. Booting to OS9 gets rid of them all.
I have Panther, so I can't boot into Classic. But I think the alpha will work out pretty well for me until the OS X version is done. I'd like to have property triangles in the project workspace, but that's no big deal. I survived in 8.0 without them.

  10. Okay, I have the X version of A:M now. The rulers still aren't there, so I'll update my video card drivers for that. But now the Tools > Options menu doesn't work, it crashes the program. I assume this is an alpha bug and deal with it. Also, Help > Help Topics yields "Failed to launch help". Will Hash be smoothing out the program icons for the full release, or will they remain Windows-pixelly?

  11. I had this poblem once, and I found that I simply didn't have it turned on in the render panel. Make sure that it's set to "on" in Tools > Options. If it's more complicated than that, I have no idea.

  12. I watched JTalbotski's tutorial videos for flattening & decaling a face, and all these problems were non-existent in the videos. The only difference I can see is that he uses Jaguar and I use Panther. Is this the problem, or is there something I can do to fix these problems?

  13. A few things are starting to bother me in the Mac version of AM: 1. Selection lines (rectangle, lasso line, and lasso draw) do not show up regardless of background color. 2. The two quick render modes (Render Mode and Render Lock Mode) do not render anything, although the progress bar appears and goes across as things are rendered (and also the Raytracing and time readouts), but the render never appears onscreen. 3. The rulers do not appear, but there is blank space around the edges of windows where the ruler should be. 4. When moving and zooming, the interface flashes between the view of the model I'm working on and a weird shot of all the selection lines I've "drawn" (see #1) and quick renders I've attempted (#2). Now, I've heard rumblimgs about an OS X-native version of A:M. When can that be expected? Are there any alphas or betas around that I can try out?

  14. The only way I can think of is to shrink the rotoscope and add black around it. See: Just add a black border to your rotoscope.

  15.
Either "right click" or "Control + Click" on the Animation Master D application "Show package Contents" and that will open a folder which should contain the icon. -Richard
I'm sorry, sometimes I'm a little dense. Where exactly is this application? Or is it a typo?
