  1. Thanks for the info on 5 point splines P..I read up on them and can't wait to work with them in shoulders. I just got done watch the dvd on modeling and it seriously helped. I updated the head model, and I think my new version is looking better.

Man if anyone is new to AM and want to learn it fast I would really recommend those DVDs. Especially learning those hotkeys

Well it is 6:30 am and I need to crash.

  2. And don't forget if you use the Copy Flip Attache tool, you only have to model half of the character!

    NOW YOU TELL ME!!! lol

Yeah the shoulders have been a nightmare to get to look decent. I straightened up the splines some more and now I am working on the face. The next step is the displacement maps and stuff. But here is a new version after working on all your recommendations. I can't believe how easy this software is to get comfortable with. I remember it being a nightmare to learn how to use the materials editor in 3DS. This is simple click and it appears...very nice.

    Thanks everyone

Oh and here is a toon render. I am getting close to the south park feel they want I think..

  3. hey everyone,

I just wanted to post my first model in AM, and get your opinions. This is going to be a surfer character in a :30 second commercial south park like spot. So I will be exporting out to 2D. It took me roughly 3 days of frustration to learn the finer points of modeling in splines, but once you get used to it....well it is great.

This model was made freehand, no rotoscoping. I do have a character sketch I am going by but since it is a simple toon, I didnt want to roto it. I started this around 10am yesterday and this is what I have so far. I have to confess, I hijacked the hands from another model, I just dont have time to model hands lol.

So I would love to hear your input. I still have to clean up some lines, but it is a pretty clean spline. No dangling threads.

    Thanks all,

  4. This is really driving me nuts! ATM I only have my workstation to render with, so I do my rendering when I got to bed, and work with the footage the next morning. Each time (twice now) I have tried to render at some point the program just stops. I check my PC and the program is turned off, and I have not movie. I use Avid Express to edit with so I export to Quicktime at DV resolution @ 29.97 fps. I am exporting using the 2D render, and for shot stills it works. Is there an issue with QT render? Or could it be my virus software?

    PLEASE HELP!!!

  5. What about importing in from 3DS? If you can import models from there ( ie: using that 3DS export plugin) you could export your character out of Poser as a 3DS, of course no bones or anything, then kick it out of 3DS and import into AM to assign the bones?

I am not sure, but can't you import the .mdl extension into 3DS? I know you can for the .obj but not sure about the .mdl.

Is Hash planning to add to their export options? So that you can work between AM and the 3DS, Maya or other packages? Or is the extension proprietary?

  6. (Take look at the Hunter stuff on A:M Films, you couldn't do anything like that in poser!)

Yeah I have seen the hunter animations since when I first was checking out AM. It is really impressive. Especially the gravity and dynamics or the aaaahh.....extremities motion hehe. I have always been interested in mixing the animation with real video so the motion tracking package I saw for this was impressive. I have done some motion work in After Effects, and this looks like a better solution.

Gonna work on the modeling today. See if I can get some things together. I was a little peeved this morning though, after waiting all night for rendering and I guess the program had an error and shut down. It has done it a couple of times, but not to where it is a problem (well except for last night)...

  7. Hey everyone, I was wondering if I could use the clothing packages from sites like Daz 3D or Poser models and apply them to a character made in AM? The reason I ask is I am just starting with AM, and I need to make a animation and really need some clothes 8/

I can model the scene, and the bar tables and stuff, but I am still learning how to model and apply clothes. Hopefully the DVDs I just ordered will fill me in, but until then I still have to get the bills paid.

If anyone has a decent library of mens and womens clothing, maybe you could get in touch with me about purchasing some?

    Thanks for any input

  8. Greetings everyone,

My name is Jeremy Frasier. I am a graphic designer and immersive media developer in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Although I purchased my copy of AM last year. This is the first time I have had to play with it. I was impressed with the gallerys and the photo realism that this package has to offer.

I have done some animation in the past, including a animated sequence for the US Navy that I finished in 3D Studio Max. I have to say that I have become prejudice when it comes to 3D studio over all the other programs ( ie: rhino, Maya etc) and the only other program that I have used is Poser.

Although Poser has taken great leaps, I have to say that your program is fantastic. I look forward to learning all I can, and have ordered your DVD packages to learn from the pros on how to use this software to the fullest. I am sort of under the gun, I recently was contracted to do an animated commercial spot for a local club, and will be relying a great deal on your input in the coming days.

I just wanted to introduce myself since I am looking forward to becoming a part of this community.

Thanks again to the Hash guys for making this software. 8)
