  1. Hi;

    I don't know about MP3's in HAMR ,but Wav files can hold some compression format, such as Micro Law(uLaw) and ALaw these are basic compression but smaller than PCM (Pulse Code Modulation). You'd have to set them manually. If you have something like Roxio Sound editor or Goldwave, you can change formats within them and I think windows recorder does it too. I'm not 100% sure , but Quicktime now supports Mpeg4 and so should support MP3 and so I am Assuming MP3 could be used in AM but they may be having trouble getting it to work in realtime.

    :o Smaller is sometimes better!

  2. Peter,

    What Dhar said on the settings... little touches like that sure add a lot to a scene but can add a lot to your animation. I'd guess sound was the biggest addition however.

    All that said... Love your 'Take a Walk!' :)

    The extra work you put into it paid off. Very nice.

    Cheers for that! The sound probably was the big issue, I had some very high res sounds 192Khz 24bit, I knocked them down to 44Khz 16 bit , but they where Still PCM not compressed.

    The unzipped file was 4.2Mb without sound ,6.62Mb with the sound track. So roughly 1/3 of the animation file size is sound.

    As you might have seen in one of my previous exercises I used similar fog and reflection. I feel those settings add to the sense that its a flat ground surface and it helps me check the feet are touching the ground like there supposed to..

    Thanks for the feedback Rodney and Dhar...

    Hi Rodney and all;

    Heres my Exercise 5, I went a bit overboard with the sound, I especially made some sound effects , a song and little ditty ... I had to split the footstep sounds up into seperate parts so it would sync. I had some problems adding actions but I feel this works ok.. I'll be interested in using HAMR as this file is embarresingly big, :blush: sorry, 3Mb compressed. I'll have to invest in some webspace, AOL only give 2Mb free space.

  4. Phobos (I shall call you this until you give me permission to call you by your name),

    I love your lighting, render and animation. Nice!

    I'm not sure exactly what the knight is doing after he watches the ball fly overhead.

    At first I thought it was some sort of prayer (no.. seriously).

    Now I think he is just prepping to throw the next ball?

    You've got my attention... now I wanna know what's up! :)

    Rodney, you can call me by my real name if you like.. Pete, Peter, etc.. what ever you like (as long as its not rude)..

    After the pitcher looks up in the air, he was supposed to be doing a sort of 1/2 hearted punch to the air as he sulks to the ground . Disappointed with his aid in making a big strike, he flicks the ground and puts his head to his elbow to block out reality for a second or two . That bit was messy, I think it would have worked better if I stretched it out more. Now that I wrote all that, I realize it as just to much and didn't give anything to the flow of the sequence. Thanks for your comments though. :)

  5. Hey Phobos!

    You forgot the link/attachment.

    If its just a matter of file size you may want to experiment with Sorensen 3 compression.

    That seems to be the optimum.

    As an alternative we may be moving toward publishing exercises with HAMR too if you are interested.

    It won't be the only format that can be submitted but I have a feeling it will one day be the preferred format for exercises with animation.

    Rodney

    Cheers I'll look into HAMR, sorry about the file, I tested it after posting and found it was in error, I picked the wrong deflate setting in 7ZIP, should work fine now. was 1.75Mb now 2.52Mb.. thanks for pointing it out though...Please see the fixed attachement in my previous post...

  6. Hi Rodney;

    Heres my Exercise 4, I added a little extra to the required 00:01:06. Its now about 00:04:20 in length. The ground is a simple diffuse black at frame 00:00:00 with Specular 62% size 57%, reflection of 31% softened to 80% in the rendered, Just thought I'd say that because I thought it looked interesting.

    I know the leg bleeds through(or tears) the hip plating from the start , but I thought it might ruin the illusion to move the plate around.Thats a poor excuse I know! :mellow:

    Cheers!

  7. Hi;

    Iv'e been using A.M. for about 18 months now and never got round to doing the tutorials for certification, but its time to show I can do the basics... I did find some errors when posing the new 04KeeKat, it seemed to have the eyes bleed through the eyelids when squinted and now he seems to be a bit crosseyed.. heres my render with some extra posing ... He looks a bit psycho :wacko: ?

  8. Okay, I think we've got the songs identified, and at least some starting lyrics for each. Now, it's time for the music, and we've got a good start on that. Don't be afraid to throw your attempt in with the rest of them, (but keep to the appropriate thread - sequence number).

    Do you have an Intro yet? I am not a professional musician, but I do have Reason 3.0 and have wrote several songs using it . If I have a mood and transisition note to the first scne I could make a dramtic orchestrated or poppy title for you.. ( is it like a bugs life? zoom in start and happy, or dark and mysterious start like monster house)?

    Anyway I'd be glad to help.
