  1. Rodney,

I am so sorry I did not reply to your post regarding my completion certificate.

I guess I was wrapped up with my own failings to secure a result regarding the huge file sizes I was getting with my tutorials :-)

I very much appreciate the work you have put into our improvement and it has been great to have your encouragement throughout the 19 exercises, and the certificate looks just great, I would be very happy to receive it from you.

I am moving on a little and I want to spend quite some time on applying materials to my models, so I am presently seeking out some good tutorials about that.

I will be staying with this forum though as I do intend to re-do some of the exercises and maybe expand on them a little...... Thankyou again Rodney and of course Mark, Mike and Richard for all your advice and encouragement.

    Bill

  2. Hey Thanks Racreel....

That is what I been waiting for just a hint of where to go to lower the file size.

You have hit the nail on the head for me and I really appreciate it.

I am so new to this type of creativity, I am an oil painter by heart so find this medium a little strange. But you have shown me the way to go or at least experiment with and I thank you very much.

    Kindest of regards

    Bill

  3. Here is the last exercise, not sure why but file size here is ok.

Anyway it's been fun but I am off back to the beginning for a rerun and hopefully I will post up the different adaptations I get from a little more experience with this program.

Would still really like some help with the file size issue I have if any of you guys have the time to spare.

    Kind Regards to you all

  4. Is there any hope that someone will reply top my plea for help in dropping movie filesize.

I am a complete newbie at this and was hoping that someone would help me in advising on how I get the movie files down in byte size.

Sorry if I sound a bit taught but I did think that someone would help been as most seem to have solved this by the size of their movie files.

I have completed all tutorials but cannot put any more files up on my site and this forum only allows 1 MB.

This problem along with my re-installation problems have daunted me a little. I have never had problems with any of the software packages I use but AM seems to have given me a huge headache since I lost the ability to Keyframe and did a re-install.

    Bill :(

  5. I have just re-installed AM and seem to have cured the problem I had with keyframing, however for some reason as soon as I attempt to use the community window and sign in the program crashes completely. I don't even get an error message from Win XP Pro. Still the program does run otherwise.

So here is my Smoke Wind & Fire exercise. I have to put a link here to the Quicktime file as I haven't worked out yet how you guys get such small files sizes :-)

Enjoyed this tut too, seems endless what there is to learn, Christmas has come ealy for me I guess :-)

  6. Ok here is my dusty tutorial, after much problems I may add....

I had to do this one using the 10.5 version of AM. For some reason 11.1 is refusing to enter keystrokes when I press enter, also I am finding that when I resize the modeling window the object I am modeling goes off-centre.

I guess I will have to do a re-install of version 11.1 and see if that will cure the problem. I will however wait to see if any of you guys have encountered these problems before I try the re-install.

  7. Just completed exercise's 12 and 13, I must play around with these a lot more as they do introduce some really great possibilities for future projects. Seems the more you go into this the more there is to learn, still, I haven't become daunted so far. I am really enjoying it, even when things go wrong it seems I learn even more by finding out where the problems reside.

I am hoping to get the exercises complete before the Festive season and I get swamped with Grandchildren :-)

Not sure If I can attach two pics so I just posted the AI pose, the O pose is on my Web page in the anims section

  8. Thanks MIke for the comments on the Plane exercise.

Here is my 'Giraffe' tutorial, got to say very unformative and I had to work hard to figure out the couple of problems I encountered with decaling and holes appearing over the couple of five point patches. However some re-adjusting of the splines allowed me to apply the decals ok.

Oh well, on to some 'Lip Posing ' now.

Oh !!! sorry Mark nearly forgot to comment on your idea of a joint animation project, got to say it sounds very interesting and normally I would jump in head first, but I have many commitments over this festive season and I do really want to concentrate initially on my modeling skills before embarking on a fully fledged animation project. Anyways I got a bit to go yet to complete the AOAM so I must concentrate on those exercises first.

I hope however that some of the guys are gonna join with you as it would be just great to watch the project grow. Damn I'm nearly talking myself into this one :-)

Best of luck with it Mark

  9. Just completed Exercise 10 got to say that this was so enjoyable, the one thing that concerned me before buying AM was whether I was making the right choice regarding modeling. I know that this exercise only scratches the surface but it has convinced me that learning further will be a great experience.

The plane turned out not too bad but really needs more effort from me, as I stated in an earlier post I will be calling back to these tuts to give them the benifit of a little more experience with the software.

    Kind regards folks

  10. I do like the Flower anim Richard very cool to go that step further and make such an impact with emotive movement, well done.

I also took a look at the Osprey tutorial after your post about them here, and waw what a great help they are for someone new to AM like me :-)

BTW Richard did you get any joy in downloading the actual Flash movies as all I get are htm files with 'Not Found' on them. and I did right click in an attempt to 'save as'.

I would love to have these on my hdd so I could watch them just in case they get moved in the future

Damn this forum seems endless with new stuff to learn and enjoy :-)

    Bill

After some looking into I find that the Engine movie does download, but the cockpit movie link has a htm at the end instead of swf.

Just thought I'd come back here and mention it.

  11. Wow !!! some eally nice inspiration to go from on those movies Rodney, I think when I have done a few more exercises I may well go back over the whole 'Art of Animation' exercises and do a sort of retake on them and taking more time to perfect some of the areas I haven't dwelt on for quite long enough.

Thanks for the kind comments Mark and Mike, just hope we don't lose you from here now that you've both sort of graduated :-)

The one thing that this forum acheives big time is the gradual development of ones ability to look deeper into a small piece of action, and develop it into something different. I guess the 'Door's Stuck' and 'It's a Pitch' are great examples of this.

I think you could say that 'Every curve is a learning curve' and I aim to enjoy all the curves I make :-)

    Bill

  12. A big well done to Mark and Mike, you both worked off each other really well.

I haven't posted much here lately as my Laptop is dead and has gone for repair so I am using my main puter which I have had to bring back to the house from my art studio. Anyways I have also been trying to get to know a bit of website design so that I could make my own. I have started to get the site populated and have posted my Animation Master tutorial exercises there so to save me uploading to the forum and using up forum bandwidth it may be a bit better for me to ask you guys to take a look there.

    The url is http://www.bill.moore.dsl.pipex.com/

If you navigate to the tutorials via the animation link at the top of the page you should get to see my work so far.

Anyways it's real nice to be back and hope to soon be with the likes of Mike and Mark and getting on with some home brew stuff :-)

    Cheers n Beers

  13. Hey Mark the tall guy looks even better now, well done !!!

I will be a bit slower keeping up as my laptop died tonight, slightest bit of work in either 3d or rendering killed it good n proper.

I am lucky I guess that I took out extra insurance on it so I am waiting for it to be picked up and repaired.

I will have to work with my other puter (the one I am on right now) trouble is it's in my radio shack/Art Studio at the bottom of the garden, so I have to give up home comforts to use it :-)

Anyways cannot wait to get back to the tutorials and trying the Giraffe model.

I watched the Say it tutorial and completed the basic lipsink bit and was very impressed with AM's performance. I am really looking forward to attempting this tutorial in its entirety.

So back to you Mark .... you seem to be getting on very well with AM and the tutorials, the Giraffe is now ready for animating dare I say it :-)

I look forward to your next post

    Bill

  14. Thanks guys for the comments,

Yeah Mike I also found the Pitch tut a little more demanding and decided to make a save project each time I did a keyframe, but as time went on I gained a little confidence and just did a save every so often just in case.

This attempt was also my second, I was suffering from over indulgence of that Irish single malt :-)

Gonna start the 'Take a Walk' tutorial this evening, I have dabbled with it a few times but will make a serious attempt at it tonight.

I will probably stay around the early tutorials for a while and use them to develop my basic skills before venturing on to later tutorials, I don't want to just wizz through them like as if they are to be over and done with.

Anyways onward I go, lets see if I can make this bunny walk for his supper.

    Bill

  15. Thanks Mike, much appreciated.

I guess I am lucky to have a bit more time to play due to retirement, but I am in no hurry to complete the tutorials really. I am spending time now trying to expand on each tutorial by making small changes or adding a little something.

However, saying that, I haven't added anything to exercise 4 as it did take some time to get the poses anywhere near to where they should be. I am finding the small tags to adjust the bones a little fiddly but I am sure I will get used to them.

Ok here is Exercise 4 and this time I tried the Quicktime format, hope it works ok for you guys.

  16. Thankyou guys for the feedback, much appreciated.

I will certainly do the anims in Quicktime so that all can see.

The more I play with this program the more I love using it, something new around every corner. I did originally plan on just modeling with it first and then using the posing features to compose a scene. The way in which the manual introduces you to the software does a fine job, it makes me want to complete the exercises just so that I can get to find whats next in this bundle of fun. I am sure it's gonna get much harder as the exercises get to use more complex features, but I look forward to that challenge.

Anyways I am rattling on too much now so here's my adaptation on the third exercise.
