  1. I ordered the Technical Resource book for AM 11, and they shipped it on 6/22. I still don't have it. My word of advice to any of you who are considering ordering it, make sure you ship it something other than the "Nearly Dead three legged Horseback" method, or you'll be waiting a long time like me. I hope it's here this week.

I did receive my Pro Series Training Video 2003 yesterday. It's VERY good, but many of the videos are cut off due to time contraints, and one of them has a macintosh user (The CG/3D one on disk 2) who you have to watch him struggle with the windows interface. I just ordered another Anzovin CD, the non-linera animation one. Their training CD's are very good as well, and you get A LOT of value for the price. Highly recommended.

The Day Off the Dead video that comes with it is awesome!

  2. I thought it was very good, perhaps a bit too fast for an old man, especially when he sees the first object fall, his reaction was way to fast IMHO.

The anticipation on the large third object falling was very good.

  3. My first attempt at making a face. I already know of many issues with it, but this is about two hours of effort just to get this. I've learned a lot from this exercise, mostly how splines work and 5 point patches.

I'm off to sleep for tonight, tomorrow I'll work on doing a set of shoulders/torso, and maybe another face. ;)

  4. Well, ive now fininshed the giraffe, there are still some places where the decal has gone wrong, but im not too bothered about that at the moment, coz most of it looks good, i think so any way.

    So.........on to exercise 12

Morphy - i see what you mean, i have gone over some of this exercise again, mainly just to learn more about patches. Ive not done the skeleton exercise yet, that should be fun :D

    Wow! Fantastic work TC! Impressive.

  5. DEFINATELY pick up the complete guide to AM 2002. It's a great companion and I've been able to learn a lot from it, also, get at least the QuickStart Tutorial from Anzovin Studio. Both of those provide a lot of the "WHY" behind the examples, and I agree, that helps us as animators understand what we're doing instead of parroting examples.

There's so much to learn about AM, and I'm still waiting on my AM Technical Reference book I ordered a few weeks ago. That Cafe Press sure takes it's sweet time :( - SO I can't really comment on that book yet, but I've heard it's great to have around as well.

I've have always been someone who likes to have a lot of reference material around me because there's only so much that can fit in my tiny brain at one time.

Here's my work area along with my killer book and CD. The computer is custom built by yours truly, I call it my Thunderbird Greaseslapper 3000. (AMD 3000, 1 gig RAM, 120 HD, ATI Radeon 9600).. It works great with AM.

  6. I didn't use even the simplest of the keyboard shortcuts when I first started with A:M. I personally think that the following 3 (default) keys are the first thing a new user should learn.

To alter your view of A:M's 3D space:

M - Move tool (or pressing down the mouse wheel if you have one)

    T - Turn

Z - Zoom (or the mouse wheel up and down if you have one)

Once you've got these learnt, and can find them without looking at the keyboard, you'll find yourself working a whole lot faster.

And then you'll be ready to learn more shortcuts :D

Also, on a three button mouse, the middle button works as the move command on my PC. I'm used to using the middle button while playing PainKeep Arena to eat a can of pork and beans for health, so it works out well for me. ;)

  7. What, if any, is the port I need to open on my firewall to allow the community feature to work inside of AM? Right now it tells me I'm not connected to the internet, but I know I am connected otherwise I couldn't post this message. This leads me to think I need to open a port, but I don't know what port that is. Can someone email the port info for my firewall? I'd really like to see the community feature. I'm at rwaring1@indy.rr.com

    Thanks for any help.
