  1. Hi All! :),

Last post from me on this I assume. I am also one who 'requires' a version license to be content. Not a machine license, not a timed sub. I am afraid to keep working with a:m anymore. I tried a sub this time, but honestly wish I hadn't. Anything I work on now may be useless after my year. I would be totally at hashs mercy and can't get myself to surrender to that. If, god forbid, any thing happened to the company, my time and money just runs out. With a disk and version license, you at least have that and could keep working for years. I have started on that B (the kitchen appliance one) program, because I know I can keep a working version, not because I'm too cheap to shell out $300. (I also did the CD once and one $100 upgrade) (I actually inquired to Hash three times over the next almost decade about upgrades, and never had an email returned.) Hash needs to get a:m into best buys at an affordable price and try for some quantity sales. imho. everyone is entitled to my opinion, so there ya go. :)

Everyone here is great! The program is a fine piece of work! I suppose this is a bitch best directed at the powers that be, and I assume those have access to here too.

hmmm.. Should this have been in 'feature requests'? :)

  2. Has there been any progress made on the CD version of A:M?

    Not yet.

I too would like to see a transportable USB dongle version offered. You might send a friendly note to Jason at Hash to encourage it, understanding that it might be a more expensive offering than what is available now.

Thank you for your reply. Looking the his user profile, I attemped to leave him a message and was told that function wasn't enabled. I believe I managed an email to him through other of his information. I was reminded that once before I hit that snag (leave a message error). Would you know if that function works, or is that a question for Rodney? (Still trying to figure out who does what around here :) .

I have enjoyed your posts and knowledge sharing/tuts etc. very much. Thank you also for that!

  3. Greetings all!

Has there been any progress made on the CD version of A:M? A hard copy of the program with a license number that could be installed on a new machine or machine after a HD crash (etc) would make me much more comfortable investing the time required in learning the program. A web sub just doesn't 'feel' as permanent somehow. Your mileage may vary. :) Noticing the dates on this thread (june) made me wonder about progress on this front. Thanks for your time.

  4. :) The quest for new/more blood...

Just as a mention, zoopa.com and tongal.com are contest sites for video and other art that seem to get a lot of animation entries.

    Bill....

Thanks Bill ! It appears I have been living under a rock for many years. Interesting sites.

Word of warning for anyone else - it's zooppa.com. When I went to zoopa.com - a dialog pop up appeared telling me I've won something. I don't know what it was as I immediately ctrl alt deleted my browser, and I, of course, did not click on anything in the pop up.

Let's hope my Norton was working.

I fixed (edited) my post. Thank you, and sorry about that.

  5. animation hardware? frame rendering speed? software? project collaboration? Would someone please answer those questions for me? :)

hardware: I have read a bit from the forums here the last few weeks (and followed links) about gpu acceleration for rendering polys. Is this a serious benefit for something like rendering times? (e.g. Can it turn frame rendering times from hours to mins, or mins to secs sort of thing?) Can it help us spliners in any way?

software: Does something like netrender allow us to put our machines at each others disposal for large rendering projects? (How was TWO or SO handled in this regard, assuming tons of rendering required? Did anyone ever add up the rendering time required for those massive projects? :)) I watched TWO on youtube and it was great to see. Fine job TWO'ers!

projects and collaboration: Something worth having the abilities to model and render for in the first place. Mouseman phrased it well yesterday a few posts back about story being the first thing. I would enjoy a conversation about ideas for different collaborative projects and how they might be accomplished, technically and artistically.

(Just kicking the can around here.. As a newbie I may be useless on all fronts.:)

A regular realtime chat would be cool also. Anyone doing that anywhere?

    tanks fer yer time.

  6. Hi Bill.... welcome to A:M and its world....

Bill what do you want to learn ?

    Hi Xtaz! Thanks.

I'm still so new I'm trying to figure that out, but shall not be too intimidated to publicly ask thanks to you guys and your kind welcomes.

    Bill....

  7. Welcome to the forum, Bill!

    Thank you!

As a beginner, I'd like to thank you all for your tuts and explainations I am discovering by hunting through the forums. The taoa:m thing (pdf) was a pleasure to find,

Tell me more about how you found it. Theoretically everyone who buys A:M should know it's there immediately but is it not?

After reading enough through the forums, I finally read where 'tao' wasn't just the concept "The Art Of", but a set of tuts and started hunting for it. I never actually saw a link to getting it in a message or a faq, but went to the ftp part of the site for some manual information and found it there. I can't be sure it isn't in some bold print on some page one somewhere, but I never saw it. Ever stand in a store at a shelf that has what you want, but have to ask someone where it is anyway? :) Perhaps a link pinned in the newbie section with 'things you'll want for sure when starting out' would have been handy.

This is my second foray into A:M. Bought the cd for 2001 version (8.5 on the cd) but only did the examples through most of the manual for character anim. I used it a few times for simple text anim (fontwiz) and have flown a few cameras around through models and played with the volumetric lights, simple stuff to be included in intros/outros for video projects, but recently spent a few weeks attacking the character anim part of the program for a silly online video contest, and had so much fun doing it came back for v.16.

I wish I knew enough to know what would help me along the most, but it's everything at this point. Constraints are a current search, and plugins and what they'll do.

    Bill....

  8. How many beginners do we have? I see so few here in the forum......where are they ? Why doesn't they post here ?

Maybe there are a few. Oh boy, emoticons too! :)

It may also be in the nature of a beginner that we have so many questions about everything related to A:M, and are still confused by concepts and terminology, and hate to come off as the idiots we know we are. (Okay, it may just be me and the 'we' was to deflect:)

As a beginner, I'd like to thank you all for your tuts and explainations I am discovering by hunting through the forums. The taoa:m thing (pdf) was a pleasure to find, and I enjoy reading about the tao revised planning. Anyway, hi everyone! Sorry if this has become off-topic.

    Bill....

now, if I can figure out how to post this.
