  1. What up Rob ?!

No camera in your AE ??? LOL ! Indeed that must be a SLIGHTLY aged version ... but AE's like a fine wine , right ?! :) I think the camera came into play around version 6 ? No matter though , A:M seems more than capable of taking care of one's virtual camera needs .

And thank you for the quick tip concerning the A:M camera ... I was only aware of using the "T" , "M" and "Z" keys ... the Rotate option will be a BIG help as that was what I was trying to accomplish when I was doing this exercise but could never figure out how . And I will definitely try out moving the camera from other viewpoints ... sounds most promising .

This forum rocks . All you guys who help us newbies out are the best . Thx again !

    Lata lata !

    CAVS 96 ; MAVS 83 - YE-AH !!! (7:55 left in 4th qtr.)

  2. Mike,

I guess I've already said hello in a way via commentary on your TaoA:M exercises but this'll make it official.

With your experience with After Effects I hope you'll take advantage early of A:M's ability to render to image formats with Alpha Channels (TGA, PNG etc.). There is a whole lot of power to be found there.

In short, leveraging A:M with After Effects will serve you well!

Welcome to the A:M Forum. :)

Thx for the official welcome there Rodney !

And most assuredly , I cannot wait to start integrating A:M with AE ! I've been using that prog for ... oh my ... almost a decade now ?! Yikes ! Anyways , one thing that I really can't wait to experiment with is rendering out normal passes of objects and scenes from A:M that I can then light using AE's lighting system along with a free plug-in called Normality ... apparently if one lights their 3D object and/or scene via this method in AE , one can save colossal amounts of render time . See the link below for more info :

Normality - FREE plugin for After Effects by Stefan Minning

Another thing that I find most promising about A:M is the ability to import Illustrator paths , logos , etc. This will all but completely negate my need to ever open our 'other' 3D prog again ! And you have no idea how content that makes me B)

Thx again Rodney ! Lata lata .

Go CAVS ! Tonight vs. Dallas MAVS 7:30 !

  3. LOL ! Yeah , the little rabbit was tired n grumpy ... apparently they'd all been practicing their dance moves for quite some time n the knight and shaggy kept slackin' off ... ok , not really , I was just messin around with the pose sliders to see what all i could do with 'em at this point ...

N thanks for the advice regarding the cameras ! I was suspicious that there would be some way to customize the rig ... judging from the camera moves in TWO I am certain that A:M can accomplish anything that I can envision and more .

And I am absolutely thrilled with my overall experience with the program and the forum community thus far . There is so much information readily available that one is completely set-up for success right from the get-go ; all one has to do is read , ask questions , and experiment ...

Gotta bust out some Cavs animations then it's back to TAO A:M !

    Lata lata !

Fun fun fun ! I just can't wait to get more into camera movements . Thus far the controls for camera movement leave a little something to be desired , but I'm sure that's just an artifact of my inexperience ... I'm just so used to AE's camera system that A:M's is going to take some getting used to I can tell . No biggie though , I'm in this for the long-haul .

#3 shall have to wait till tomorrow ... oh wait , it already is tomorrow ... time to go home for a little bit ... lata !

  5. Greetings A:M Community !

My name is Mike Gulley and I'm brand new to the A:M scene ! I'm the Motion Graphics Coordinator and Lead Animator for the Cleveland Cavaliers and we just scored A:M last week .

Concerning first impressions outside of the software itself I must say that I'm VERY impressed by the User Community here on the Forum . There is so much creative potential it's amazing ! And the community projects are the exact kind of collaboration that I cannot wait to get involved with !

Incidentally 95% of my 3D modeling and animation experience has been via (hmmm how do I describe the program without actually naming it - right ? cuz we're not allowed to discuss other software packages here I think I read somewhere) ... well , let's just say that it's a very simplified 3D animation program that excels in the conversion of 3D Illustrator art into 3D models ... in my case I use(d) it to make 3D logos for all the NBA and AHL teams . I also have made a few projects where I modeled various things by combining basic primitives ... Anyways , with the last animation that I made for the CAVS "Tonight's Matchups" I pretty much cached it out ; I don't think that there was any feature that went unused . Needless-to-say , upon completion of the project I immediately started researching into other 3D graphics and animations packages and for a host of reasons I chose A:M and lo-and-behold here I am ! And I must say I am thoroughly content with my decision .

As I said before this forum is absolutely amazing ! The amount of information that can be gleaned is mind-boggling ... Any time I'm rendering any animations from AE , i find myself perusing the bevy of topics on here . And as soon as I'm finished with the TAOA:M and the Ultra Bootcamp I would love to jump on the Scarecrow of Oz project ... assuming that there's still work to be done . I figure there's no better way to beef-up my skills than by jumping head-first into a big project . Also , I must say that I am thoroughly impressed by the TWO movie . I showed the intro sequence to my girlfriend recently and told her my plans to jump on the SO project ... LOL ! Her reaction was basically something to the effect of "Great ! Now I'll never see you..." She was joking of course , but , as I'm sure you all can relate to this , all of us computer-oriented artists spend copious amounts of time on our projects , for work no less , and now I'm gonna have a whole other project outside work to sink my teeth into . I doubt I'll ever leave my workstation/dungeon-lab here at the Quicken Loans Arena .

I've got a few smaller projects to finish up this evening for the Cavs and for the Monsters (our AHL minor-league hockey team) ... as soon as that's done it's time to sink my teeth into the TAO A:M .

Looking forward to becoming an active member of this community ! Lata lata !

  6. Many thanks for uploading the basketball model ... very cool indeed . I also checked out the demo reel on your website ... excellent stuff for sure . And that mini-race on the ice definitely has inspired me to try out a project in the same vein ... Anyways , have a good one ! Gulley .

  7. Hi Gikefod! WELCOME!

Good choice using A:M for scoreboard/sports graphics. I do work for the Detroit Red Wings scoreboard and A:M suits me and the work to a 'T'. I am sure you are going thru the learning process, and we'll all be happy to help if you have questions. I'll bet one of your first models will be a BASKETBALL...and I happen to already have one in my library all textured for close examination. If you are interested, I'll post it to the 'Contributors Cue' forum.

LOL ! Yeah , well , a basketball is kind of essential to say the least . But for sure , if you wouldn't mind posting it , I'd appreciate it . Incidentally 95% of my 3D modeling and animation experience has been via Zax PA and with the last animation that I made for the "Tonight's Matchups" I pretty much cached it out ; I don't think that there was any feature that went unused . Needless-to-say , upon completion of the project I immediately started researching into other 3D graphics and animations packages and for a host of reasons I chose A:M and lo-and-behold here I am ! ... anyways , I'll post more soon ... I gotta power-down the ol' MACPRO cuz one of our glorious IT guys is about to drop 8 more GIGs of RAM into this badboy . Lata .

Ps - so how do ya like workin for the Red Wings ? How long have u been involved with them ? I do work for everything that comes through the arena , which includes our AHL hockey team , the Lake Erie Monsters . Concerning them ol' Red Wings , I think I saw a youtube video that shows the intro light show with a bunch of animations projected onto the ice . Is that u guys ? If so , very cool stuff ! Unfortunately our little hockey team doesn't quite have the budget for such a system . Aight I'm out .

  8. I'm brand new to the A:M scene so Greetings to you all ! I'm the Motion Graphics Coordinator and Lead Animator for the Cleveland Cavaliers and we just scored A:M this morning , so I'll be posting on here in the near future once I get some projects completed . In the meantime , feel free to hit me up to bounce ideas off , etc.

    Lata lata !

    Gulley .
