If you have the v13 disc, v14c wouldn't work with it. If you have the v14 disc, I think v14c is here.
Hope that helps.
It's not a big deal but I thought I would ask.
I've just started to pick A:M up again after a while and have the OZ CD (version 13 I believe).
I can update to v14a and v14b without any problems, but 14c throws me out saying the CD is incorrect.
Can anyone confirm that this is normal.

yeah and make sure the mirror tool works afterwards.
To cfa (copy/flipp/attach) select the centerspline and first scale the pivot to x=0, then scale the whole spline to x=0, then copy flip attach the right half of the model ( you will have to reselect five pointpatches and reattach hooks near the middle afterwards)
then test the mirrortool on your controlpoints by dragging them around to check if everything worked correctly.
Sorry in case you are allready familiar with that, I just like to point it out again sometimes to whomever it might concern, because
I had so many difficulties with that myself.
Firstly a huge thanks to Mark for the 2008 rig, it's got to be the easiest installation by far.
Things I stumbled on but quickly resolved .. totally agree with jakerupert about the cfa. it was better to delete half the model and re-copy/flip/attach than messing with each cp that didn't get captured.
Also the mirrorbones plugin ... I kept losing finger tips, toes and other stuff until I found a thread about it somewhere about the 'Left' versus 'left' (and 'Right'/'right') in the dialogue box that caught me out .. too busy comparing check boxes :-/ , but once corrected the whole lot was a breeze.
Many thanks again for an awesome rig.

Kalibur-
Some quick methods:-
You could try finding a picture of the sky on the internet and using it as a rotoscope in the choreography window. Providing the camera doesnt move wildly off plane, it looks ok. There are plenty of images here, or just search using google. The cd comes with asky pictures as well
You could apply a suitable sky image to a flat plane and put this behind the action in your cho. window, there are models on the cd like this
You could apply a suitable sky image to a 4 sided cube, top, front, left and right, then use this as a backdrop in your choreography.
Or you could make a skydome - lathe a half sphere and drop a gradient material on it, or slightly more sophisticated - nest two or three domes inside each other, then the clouds would appear to move as the camera did.Check out the example "skytrace"on the cd.
Hope this helps,
Chris
Hi Chris,
Came across this thread by accident, thanks for the info, I was going to drop in a decal but the skydome sound better.
PS. Just noticed your location .. my Daughter's studying Business at the College near you - Somewhere near Haverford West I think ?
Cheers,
Alan

Well done. I loved it. Don't forget to add the dust up from when the ship hits the dirt, assuming it isn't already done. I also thought the car passing behind the ship was cool.
Phil...
Thanks Moonshire
There is a dust volumetric effect. To be within the allotted file size, the mov file I had to reduce the render. In the original that's about 260 meg, you clearly see the subtle dust plume.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Hey. My brother-in-law and his friend who originally were going to use this clip as part of an entry to a Discovery Channel contest, have told me they're going to finally finish the short even though the contest is done. He and the other creator/actor in the short who has finally purchased Animation Master, is Funky Monkey. Read his post. You can see his unbiased opinion LOL.
George
Hi George,
Thanks for the response .. I'll have a go as soon as I get some time to play ;-)

Hey,
I was about to do this exercise but i cant find the rotoscope anywhere. Where do i get it?
Geoff
Hi Geoff,
I would strongly suggest that you watch the video tutorial at http://www.hash.com/2007web/vm.htm
Exercise 10: "FW-190 Figher"
part1 (25MB)
part2 (22MB)
part3 (20MB)
part4 (30MB)
zip (93MB)
Don't forget to watch the bottom left hand corner of your screen when resize / scaling your control points -
When you have the plane in top view and try to thin out the fuselage, you sometimes reduce the entire section rather than in the single axis you require (i.e. x-axis).
Also, have a quick look at http://www.cwazywabbit.co.uk/animation/tyr...re_tutorial.htm for my tutorial on the wheels ... the rotoscopes for this tutorial are available at - http://www.cwazywabbit.co.uk/animation/fw190.htm
Good luck,
Alan

Nice model,
Only one small comment ... the tail is too thick on the leading edge ... in practice, it should have a sharper leading edge rather than being 'stubby' - needs to cut through the air
.. but that's just me sticking my Engineering hat on ;-)
If you want a good site to make some more planes, go to http://web2.altmuehlnet.de/luklam/Modellbau/Props.htm
another good place is .. http://www.the-blueprints.com/

Excellent, although my jaw dropped open when Mrs. Shaggy came on the screen - great lateral thinking.
-
... and it's a pet hate. Plus if I didn't correct you, who would!
My pet hates on posts are "there" used instead of "they're" and "there" mixed with "their".. as in "Pixar have there new movie out today and there showing it for free" Ggggrgrrrrrrrr .....
I had an ex girlfriend who couldn't tell the difference and I think she's still in a high paying job !!

Drat. I wasn't quick enough to catch it at your site Alan.
Hi Guys,
The magazines been on the shelves for four weeks now so you all should have a copy by now.
Here's the link to the part about TWO and other budget productions so that you can have an electronic copy for your desktop too.

Name: Steve Wooster
Exercise Completed: Exercise 6
It was difficult and time-consuming for me to make an animation that even resembled real movement... It took me 4 or 5 days to tweak things and I still haven't figured out how to get the timing/movement right for wiggling/pulling. Hopefully it'll get quicker/easier with practice?
Date Completed: 4/19/2007
You've made it look very smooth.
Well done ;-)

A:M has the font wizard to make 3D letters, and you could also make some text in a paint program and import that as a rotoscope, but your MovieMaker is probably the most efficient for regular titles and credits.
I'm using Ulead VideoStudio to do my titles and post editing ... and it's much cheaper that the competition.

Name: Alan Selby
Exercise: #9 (Flower Power)
Completed: March 20th 2007
Remarks:
General: Not as complicated as expected. Loads of bones for something relatively inanimate - but useful practice. This was about the third exercise I did after getting A:M as it looked like one of the easiest -
So here it is.

This is a pretty old thread so it probably doesn't matter now, but .. it looks like you're not hiding some of the fuselage before adding the decal and getting overlap from the other side. The underside of the wings are the worst :-o
-
Excellent Roger - well done.
I'm glad that people are letting their own creative juices loose on these exercises instead of treating them as exam pieces that only have one answer.
Only one observation that hasn't been mentioned is to add a little more space between the keyframes as we want to 'feel' Shaggie's frustration and reaction .. I's a bit like giving a speech that you've rehearsed and nerves kick in on the big day .. and you race through it ... the audience only get 50% of what you're trying to get across.
See you on the next exercise ;-)

Please spill the beans !!!!
I want to utilise my second core ... it's feeling neglected :-(

Exercise: #6 (The Door's Stuck)
Completed: April 17th 2007
Great job!
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the feedback ...
I have another 'short' but I didn't want to post it ...
Shaggy tries to open the door but you only see the dor from Shaggy's side ... when the door is pushed open, Keekat's on the other side saying ' I've got a secret, do you ...' at which point Shaggy punches the annoying smug little git on the nose !!!!
If you complete 'Can you say that' (exercise 7) ... you'll know what I mean ;-)
Regarding the 'save' process, I'm working on a ratio of 3:1 ... 3 x 'saves' (ctrl+s) then a 'save as' ... it's a good habit to get into, and in some instances I went back two revisions to a 'known good' rather than a 'almost good'.
Anyway, good luck Spacecomics you'll have a ball ... and don't hesitate to ask if you need help.

Name: Alan Selby
Exercise: #6 (The Door's Stuck)
Completed: April 17th 2007
Remarks:
General: This was another one that I had rushed the first time round and this is my second attempt. Also I wanted to add some music and try a different ending ... I hope you like it.
Difficult areas: Some, but not as many as I thought, apart from remembering to save often and in versions ... this went up to 32 different stages. I added a constraint to the feet when they were on the door frame when it rocked and when I wanted them to lower to the floor I forgot to keyframe and they were all over the place ! Sticking to 5 seconds was hard, but I was enjoying myself too much so this pans out at 13 seconds ! I also moved the base bone in the door to allow it to hinge on the front edge, otherwise it disappeared under the floor :-o
Lessons learned: Save as, save as and then save as ... Not just 'Control'+'S' (Save).
Also playing in the timeline to smooth out the transitions .. i.e. those horrible step jumps that came from nowhere.
Movie can be viewed here -
http://www.cwazywabbit.co.uk/animation/mov...rs_stuck_lg.mpg [2.6 mb]
http://www.cwazywabbit.co.uk/animation/mov...s_stuck_sml.wmv [1.0 mb] Quicker download, that's all !

I did what another person suggest and converted the AVI footage to TGA's through a program I use for graphics editing called Paint Shop Pro. It ships with a 's sister program called animation shop which is a very basic program that exports TGA sequential files from different file formats (AVI, GIF, etc).
Other than that, it was all done in A:M. the awesome X-Wing (which I did not model. I got it from the donated models site), lighting and of course the animation.
Hi Jeetman,
I'm trying to play with something similar and was going to do it outside A:M using VideoStudio and Chromakey :-o but I'd rather learn how to do it in A:M.
I understand the export to image part and I've got Animation Shop 3 (bundled with PSP9, but I think it's stopped shipping since Correl took over).
How do you take the images back into A:M choreography etc.
Thanks in advance.
PS. I've not tried it yet .. thought I'd ask first, try second.

Nine new TWO recruits so far! Do we have one more person so we can make it an even 10?
Three assignments have went out... I'm waiting to hear from the rest of you - tell me when you're ready.
I am anxious to get involved, but still working on exercise 6, and probably won't finish that for a couple days. I'd hate to miss this opportunity!
-Roger
We've got 10 !!!!
Welcome aboard

The "TWO Recruit" email has been sent to the 7 newbies. If you don't get this email or you want to join them (it's always more fun to come in as a group), let me know here or send me a message/email/whatever.
I hope i do it all right, Everything is giving me errors, an cant access the web page. Stupid I-E 7
It's HUGE !!! (he said with a glint in his eye)
I'm still downloading the files ... 1.8GB and still going ....
Anyone had their assignment yet ?

Hi Jason,
Works well in Firefox , but not IE8 .
All files OK except for the file '05_Ogre.zip' which is reporting a failure 'unexpected end of file' so assume that it is corrupt.
Could you upload this file again ... thanks.
