  1. Very cool! Nicce models and the look is also very interesting, something between 2D and 3D due to the toon rendering. My favorite scene is the one where the guy plays with the dragon and the dragon behaves like a dog! Rolling to the back, very funny.

But this jump from the tree is quite unnatural. The speed must increase towards the floor (look at the y-movement-curve; must no be linear but exponential) and the arms would go up at least a bit while falling.

    Looking forward to seeing more!

  2. * UPGRADE TO THE MOST CURRENT VERSION OF ANIMATION MASTER.

This is important because certain features get bug fixes and/or work slightly differently between A:M versions. We should all be using the same version of the software to avoid unexpected problems.

I am still on AM V14. Can I work with this? Or am I supposed to buy the latest version (V15?) to join the project?

  3. Hi guys,

I have been away from TWO and this forum for quite a long time so sorry for asking a question that might be clear for anybody else here.

    * Will TWO be released on a real DVD?

    * If YES: How can I get it? :-)

    * If NO: Are the finally rendered movie files available somewhere for download?

Caroline (thanks :-)) pointed me to their youTube location and I was so excited and proud when spotting some of the scenes that I have done. But I have poor bandwidth at home and still would like to show the movie to my family. So I thought about putting the movie files on a DVD by myself. Is there anything?

    Thanks and regards,

    Ralf

  4. Hi Caroline,

I like the way you made that little bear overthrow Mrs Yoop. Not with one big bump (which is not possible regarding the difference in mass) but with a gradual outbalancing. Very good and believable approach!

But I think, some parts look too slow, a bit like slow motion:

    - the speed of Mrs Yoops lifting/kicking foot

    - the speed of bear's flight

I - like Dhar - think that bear should show acceleration when running towards Mrs Yoop (look at the translation curve of his hips). And the being kicked up and falling down should also show exponential rather than linear behaviour (again look at the curves).

And this little break between the run and the jump disturbs the fluidity of motion (check if there is a fall in his running speed using the curves again).

Please don't take my criticism too hard ... this is a really tough shot!

  5. Actually, I meant the other way :)

Oh yes, that looks better. Done :)

Update Owl. I wouldn't go 100% strength on the blush and make it a gradual ramp up.

Ken, thank you so much! No, I won't use 100%, about 50-60 is okay. The rest is meant for exaggeration purposes if needed somewhere. But I did not necessarily want you to replace your pose ... that could certainly be of use, too! I really liked the red-cheek-pose, just not for this purpose here.

    Here is the result ...

    scene 2_15_27 take 3

  6. I'd bend Tingirl's wrist to draw the eyes more to the cuff.

Thanks Dhar. I tried to bend the wrist a bit more to the front, but not too much to not hide TinOwl's face.

I added a pose to make him blush....

Wow! That was fast reaction! Thanks!

But I have a little problem: The red cheeks do more look like abashment/bashfulness rather than strain.

I have made a new decal (currently on 0%) for the owl to turn the whole face red, but I just don't manage to make a pose out of that. Could anybody help me out, please? The updated TinOwl files are in SVT.

<scene updated and overwritten ... see last posting for current one>

  7. Scene description:

TIN OWL bites harder, his face turning red. Nothing happens.

    Hi together,

here is the above scene. I made TinOwl narrow his eyes and flap faster in strain, but I don't know how to make TinOwl's face turn red. I could not find any pose for that. Is there any? Or do I have to animate a material?

  8. But I would have guessed that the GREEN MONKEY still has the apron. He uses it to open the door in 2_15_43 and to close the door on MRS YOOP in 2_15_ 46/47.

Does the apron perhaps shrink in size so it's small enough for the GREEN MONKEY to hold under an arm? (To suit the user?)

    Hi Steve,

    thanks so much!

The thing with the apron was my first question in this thread here, but I didn't get an answer so that I neglected the apron. But I guess you are right ... someone must be carrying it somehow.

    Let's see ...

2_15_18 TIN OWL reverses his flight direction and snatches the apron.

2_15_24 GREEN MONKEY pulls the apron off so he can see and races out the door.

2_15_33 ... followed closely by GREEN MONKEY and right behind him, almost touching the apron, is MRS. YOOP.

2_15_42a TIN OWL, STRAW BEAR, GREEN MONKEY and TIN GIRL run down STAIRS AND STONE ARCH.

So I guess you are right. Green monkey must still be carrying it ... let's see how I can manage that

    Thanks!

  9. Didn't have much time lately ...

    Latest improvements:

    * Stair case descending of now all 4 actors completed

    * first attempt to make camera move more interesting

    scene 2_15_42a

EDIT: Camera movements changed once more (I introduced some short closeups to emphasize the hurry)

  10. Yes, that looks good!

But the door must be opened inwards I guess (at least that was Ken's remark while I was doing the previous scene). Isn't there Big Loon waiting behind the door? Have a look at the previous scene (it is in SVT) and also the following scene (I guess it's there, too) to make everything fit (door, Yoop's speed ...).

  11. Here's what I've done for 2_15_04 (Straw-Bear and Tin-Owl sneak up to Mrs. Yoop's room):

    _2_15_04_take.mov

I decided to use this scene to practice mixing multiple actions and messing with constraints. The amplitude of the Owl's wingflaps are controlled by an action's blending. Also, since I wanted the pack to move with the model bone and rotate around where the owl was holding it, I constrained it to a null and constrained the null to the owl. I also made another version of the Strawbear tiptoe animation that has a stride-length (the original wasn't compatible with stride-lengths).

I wanted to have the Owl land, but I didn't have enough time.

Hey, that looks good. But I think the actors should have a bit more interaction. The owl looking at the bear or maybe even better the bear looking over his shoulder at the owl. Something like that (guess I still have to put that into my scene, too :-) )

  12. A difficult shot. Unless there is a good reason to show the whole decent, from top stair to bottom stair, I would be inclined to cut this into three shots something like this: ...

    1) Long shot of the characters racing to the top of the stairs would establish the location.

    ...

Hi Paul. Thanks so much for taking your time and having a look. These are really great ideas and as I think about it, my scene seems dull and boring to me :) I took the scene how it was laid out and also about the camera move and angles. Unfortunately neither the previous nor the following shot have been started so it's hard to fit it in. The animatic of the previous shot looks like your above suggestion #1, so I guess I shouldn't do that. But still I will try to make the shot more interesting by using more camera angles and/or more interesting action.

(I hope that is just a proxy staircase). ;)

Well, I guess it actually is the final staircase ... no more proxies in the project here.

Ah, well, the apron ... do they still carry it around here?

  13. 2_15_37

Bedroom door crashes open, Mrs. Yoop comes through.

Mrs. Yoop: I will turn you all into bugs. Then squash you!

This is just a rough pass at the chor animation, without the lip-sync yet:

    2_15_37_chor.mov

I'm having trouble with the playback in the choreography window - it's very slow and not synchronized with the sound in the dialog action. I have to render it to see if it matches, very tedious. And it plays much faster rendered. Can someone tell me how to make the choreography play back at the right speed? I've tried some of the options, but not found the right one.

    Thanks!

    Hi Roger,

is that snake-like stretching and squashing intended? That looks rather weird to me.

Regarding the playing speed: Is the cycle length of the dialog action identical to the amount of frames of the action or has it maybe been squashed or stretched? Maybe remove the dialog action from the chor and add it again? BTW: I never manage to have dialog in sync when just playing the chor. I guess that doesn't work unless you have a really fast PC. Only scrubbing frame by frame allows me to get an idea where in the dialog I am.

  14. Why do I always get scenes where a whole bunch of people runs up or down some stairs? ;)

This is so much (detail) work on so many actors. I did it with tailor made actions and hope it is okay like that. Please have a look.

    scene 2_15_42a

    Straw Bear is still open.

Question: Does anybody of these 4 guys still carry the apron? In the next scene I saw it flying around.

  15. Well, here it is rendered. As you can see it needs dedicated lighting. So, that's it for now unless it's required.

As it is a magazine they are holding, I guess it should have a fold in the mittle to make it more realistic. If you put the picture there as a decal and not afterwards in Photoshop, the fold shouldn't bother you. Great picture!

  16. I think the hair color is great! It's copper, copper is metal, perfect!

The dress, I think, should be much lighter in color, a very light blue, close to silver, still conveying the impression of metal a bit more. Or even better maybe Nancy's suggestion with pink. That might look even better. Just a touch of pink shine in silver?

  17. Hi,

you should shrink (size down) the apron a bit. First because the apron that Yoop wears in her rig is quite a bit smaller. And second because in previous shots I also had to shrink the apron for several reasons. Maybe about the size it has here?

  18. 2_11_05

    Enjoy

I think TinOwl leans over too far. He would fall down in reality I think.

    Suggestions:

    * Close the claws so that TinOwl has hold (I guess they are still open).

    * Don't tilt the hips that much, more tilt to the chest and head instead. Maybe even try to tilt the hips back instead of forward (I just tried it myself how I would sink and bend into a pose of resignation)

    * Move the hips a bit back

  19. Can you point me to the frames numbers where it looks funny?

I think during about the following frames the hips could use some (more) shift and tilt ...

    [04..07]

    [20..24]

[115..120] (maybe a bit to the back)

But maybe the black background and the lack of shadows and other objects produce a wrong impression that will change later.

Where you actually adjusted the hips very well to the body poses are

    [33..41]

    [90..105]

    So long!

  20. Problem 3 - How do I do the cloth for the apron? Raffi, you did good on that last scene, how did you do it?

    Hi Caroline,

well, I had two scenes with cloth ... the first one when Mrs Yoop got out of her bed with the apron in her hand walking towards the bedroom door. And the second when she kept hold on TinOwl who had the apron in his beak.

I followed Ken's tip to just apply the cloth material to all but the top patch of the apron to prevent it from falling. The I tried to make the cloth a bit stiffer, because in the scene with Mrs. Yoop it extremely flutters around. But still it did not work out well. The scene with TinOwl on the other hand side worked out very good. It is on SVN, you can have a look.
