Suppose I like the pattern that a noise combiner makes but want to use if for something that a noise material can't drive. I arranged the noise material like this on the model, then did a normal Bake... I took the COLOR map and reassigned it to drive Density for an orange Hair material. Then I inverted the black<>white in Photoshop, resaved, and added the new version to drive Density on a black Hair material... Here is the PRJ...
