Is there any way to record these sessions and have them in an archive, Robert? My schedule doesn't currently permit me to attend.

Perhaps we should entertain a different time?

I bet there is no time we could all agree on, but maybe there is a more advantageous time?

Suggestions?

My schedule will be changing in a few weeks, so I might be able to attend when that happens, but a recorded version might be helpful for those that can't attend for one reason or another. Just a thought.

Live Answer Time? Yes, May 28.

It tends to be a rather unstructured exchange so i'm not sure a recording would useful.

I also haven't found good way to record all parties in a call.

I'm gonna try to be there as well. Last week I was the only questionee, but it was fun to discuss my new eye rig with RC. It actually

turned into a much needed conversation about one of my current productions. I rarely get to have good conversations with other artists

concerning my projects.

How would people feel about Wednesday evenings instead of Saturdays?

Just inquiring now, not changing yet.

There will be no Live Answer Time on Saturday June 11

Instead, Live Answer time is moving to Wednesday nights, kind of like the old Wednesday Night IRC chat of yesteryear.

See the first post in the thread for new times.

This will be the regular night until I change my mind and move it again!

Hmmm... it looks like my automatic, radio-atomic, self-setting clock is about 18 minutes slow.

I didn't realize I was so late, I thought I was right on time.

Sorry about that!

Had a great time in the ol' Live Answer realm today.

I didn't post this during the session but as a follow up here's an example of a model I'm currently using to test hair.

Finding a lazy way to control hair length is my underlying goal but I know that sometimes the work just has to be done. ;)

As Robert mentioned during the session, an image map (specifically a decal) driving the length property is likely to be optimal.

I don't know why I always stubbornly resist dong things the 'right way'.

Instead of pushing forward with a decal I find myself manually adjusting and wishing I could use materials or patch images instead.

In the attached the hair near the mouth would need to be considerably shorter in order to show that there is indeed a mouth hiding under there.

I've included the model/project but it isn't much to look at.

She's a cutie!

Thank you kindly. :)

She may not look it but she's the leader of an elite team of time travelers that go about fixing things in history that get mixed up.

It's lucky for us she's on the job because... not sure if anyone has noticed... things are pretty messed up.

(She's not quite as dainty/cute as in my original drawings so that part of her transition to 3D is still a work in progress.... and in my initial take she's a tad more blue/green than radioactive green)

Here an initial look with really really REALLY short hair (I think this was one of the first tries out of the renderer):

I just gave it a quick test.

i notice that "undo" doesn't work on guide hairs. It resets the hair to straight.

I will be celebrating the 2nd of July with another Live Answer Time at Noon CDT.

I'll try to be on time. After being correct all week, I notice my clock now has again set itself to about 20 minutes slow.

Kat had to borrow a few things from Keekat (hands, feet and tail) in order to celebrate yet another (upcoming) Live Answer Time.

I was trying to channel Nancy for her dress.

Among other subjects... hair was discussed at today's Live Answer Time.

And an interesting discovery was explored.

Here's a random test I did after the session where I was mostly just trying to explore a multi-material approach to grooming hair with the underlying goal of being able to create and adjust it quickly.

That looks very promising, Rodney!

After the message today about needing Skype Premium for group screen sharing, I looked up Skype Premium and found, "Skype Premium has been discontinued."

So, I don't know why that message came up at all. A ghost of product offers past.

I look forward to seeing everyone and anyone next week!

I'm not sure what was going on with screen sharing...I tested with another computer and it worked fine. When I tried during Answer Time, Skype said screen sharing wasn't available for that call. Maybe next time it will work correctly.

Everything I read said that screen sharing didn't require Skype Premium. So, maybe gremlins.

I'll suggest that everybody do Help>Check for updates in Skype.

I just got a new update today so maybe that will help.

Because of the poor performance of Skype, we will be giving Google Hangouts, a meeting app similar to Skype, a trial this Saturday.

I will add more details as i investigate this.

For now... make sure that you have your Google account active (your password works to sign in) and that you can find the "Hangouts" app under Google "Apps".

For Hangouts to work you may need the Hangouts plugin.

1PM-2PM Eastern time

12PM to 1PM Central time (GMT -5)

11PM-12PM Mountain time

10PM-11PM Pacific time

I might just be tired but those times (in red) don't look right to me.

(I believe that they might more appropriately be... AM.)

Has anyone tried "join.me" for online meetings?

The brochure is attractive.

Live Answer Time returns, Saturday July 23, 12 Noon CDT

We will be trying Google Hangouts this time, instead of Skype.

To access a Google Hangout:

-use a Personal Message on the A:M Forum to send me the email address that you use to sign into your Google Account. The A:M Forum's Personal Messenger can be found under your screen name in the upper right corner of the A:M Forum page.

I need the email address to send you an "invitation" to the Hangout. You can send me your Google account email address anytime before the meeting time.

-Create a Google account or sign in to your current one.

-Find "Hangouts" under Google Apps (the nine-square icon in the upper-right corner of the page)

-Enter Hangouts. You may need to download a plugin the first time you do this.

-Accept the "invitation" I send you. It should appear in your Hangout screen.

Hangouts is different from Skype in that you have to accept an "invitation" to get into a conference.

Thank yous to Rodney and Roger for helping me test out both Google Hangouts and join.me today.

Neither app was entirely satisfactory, so watch this thread for further developments as to our venue next week!

There will be a Live Answer Time again on Saturday July 29, Noon CDT.

We are going to give Google Hangouts another chance. Read the Hangout instructions in the first post in this thread.

If I already have your Google account email address, no need to resend it.

Robert, is there a way to keep the hangout open after you leave? Kevin and I were talking about how quickly the hour goes by. Some of us might want to hang around longer. Or would we need to set up some after party hangout separate to this one?

Ah, the after party!

I don't know if the hangout persists after the host leaves... I suspect it does not.

I believe a Skype conference persists until the last caller leaves, but I'm not sure on that either.

That's OK.... Maybe we can just contact via Skype after the Q&A. That would be easy enough.

I foresee some branches from the Q&A brewing. Could be that some "Focus" groups may develop.

Some people may want to focus on certain areas of A:M. Some may have general questions.

I see this as a great thing to meet, make contacts, and grow.

After some exploring, it seems that Google Hangouts do persist... indefinitely.

They have a URL and are there for anyone with the URL to sign in.

I will post a URL a few minutes before the hour.
