Make sure Buffers > Alpha is OFF in the "Render to File" dialog box. You can also turn it off in the camera properties (but not for a camera shortcut). Actually I've been rendering to Jpegs for still images and Quicktime for my motion tests and I keep getting the black background. But I'll give your suggestion a try. Thanks HS.
