He might be gesturing equally here. You might want him to relax a little and use only his face... his hands might steal from his face. You could pick the most important few arm moves that accent or help what he says.
-
I don't notice anything strange with the acting. The chopping is really good... the weight is right on. The witch is old... very old, so I don't know that she would move so quick... she could have more of a look as if it is not easy for her to move around... or she puts more effort in her moving around... but that is preliminary, since this is only blocking it for now. The blocking is great.

That's easy- they don't gesture much... it was taboo back in those days. They only use hand gestures to accent what is being thought or said.

The Scarecrow animation looks really good but Tin man (to me) looks like he's moving in slow motion.
If you look at the knee slap, the movements right after the slap are too slow. Also, the shifting in the seat looks unnatural.
Because Tin man is leaning a good amount of weight to the right and forward, he would not be able to shift his hips like that without lifting himself using the right arm to support the weight (not to mention he's got to be pretty heavy being made entirely of tin). Try to act out the movement and you'll see what I mean.
True... I should not have him shift in that way. I'm going to try something different.
You do have him leaning on the arm, but because the arm also moves as he shifts, you lose the illusion of weight.
He's pivoting the forearm across the chair arm... he is only partially got his weight on the arm and his weight shifts when he moves forward. His body does react according to the amount of moving he does, which is very little.
Also, what is the thing on the back of Tin man covering his butt? A cape or extension of his top?
Regardless, it looks like it's getting embedded in the seat. If it can be removed, it should be I think.
Lastly, does anyone else feel the sound recording is not clear and sounds too rhythmic. I don't know who the voice is, but I don't like the way he read this.
George
The sound recording sucks.... and yes it is quite rythmic, but I think it will due, because I just use my imagination, as I'm sure things may be re-recorded later.

Somehow, I got mixed up and thought I had scene:1_05_12a also, but I checked Dot and saw that Dhar is doing that one... if so, I am so releaved!
Anyway, I've changed Scarecrows speed at exiting the scene to something that matches the next scene "1_05_12a". and changede his brows. Commited this one for Rhett's sanity!

I don't want to touch this one again.

Thankyou- I love these tut/critiques... I've learned so much... I keep getting the same things happening... I keep wanting to float things into position, and I think I have not mastered a way that suits me. I've been fixing a lot in my shots and I'm trying not to disassemble the main keys/main poses. In the future I will block things with that in mind. I've been finding the main poses, in a sloppy way, instead of getting them from the onset.
Thanks so much... you may be getting through!

Yeah... maybe you could add more to the end, now that the Tin servant has turned you could come back round, crossing the throne and up right to Woot's face?
-
okay, scarecrow is "slightly" tilting head down now and it helps.
-
Yeah, that bothers me too. Also the end head turn toward camera should not be there... I missed these... I'll fix later.
Thankyou!
-
Oh... good idea! I forgot Tin is in the middle of his sadness here.
-
Took care of some of the extra keyframes and extreme/overflow in there, plus some of the floating.

FINAL ONE...

I think they start with an underscore also...

okay... this is getting wierd! I just realized I'm working on a film... this is not a test. Tunnel vision!
-
Trying this again. Shoot away!

That is tooo funny... I like! The googlie eyes add to it, but because of the quick movement of the head it gets slightly lost, not totally. I guess the focus is the heart and his reaction (involuntary jerking and such) is enough to visually SEE what is happening.
I needed that laugh!

...
When he's saying this line, I believe he's talking to himself more than anyone else. So, I would have his head down more than looking at woot.
...
No... he's STILL talking to Woot and Scarecrow, but he is reflecting inwardly, mostly.
Besides... soon he's going to have his head down a lot when he is crying/sobbing. This is an oportunity for for face acting and I won't be short changed! Opps... you'd think it was my own face or something...
Maybe I could have him stroke or rub his neck or jaw and just slowly turn his head it might fit in.
-
Well, it's hard to fit all that in unless I cheat and add to the begining of the scene, which wouldn't hurt anything... in fact That is an excellent idea... I'll email Rhett about it to see what he says. Meanwhile, I've got an update here with more involved action and scarecrow is being involved also.
-
I accidently reverted everything and lost my work ... not that I did much, but I did have the lipsync the way I wanted it.... actually, I think it's better this second time around... now I've added the body animation. Just a basic blocking.

I've always looked to the past for dramatic content. Things seem more clear in the movies of the golden age.

I'm sorry for the delay, but I will upload a new model by 10/13/06. It will be updated for version 13k. Thanks for your interest.
NEW! Version 4 of the Genman model, ready for texturing at tweeking... I've also included a proxy model. This is the base model I use to create my characters. I noticed that it may need some editing of the phonemes and facial expressions to make it more like you would want it.
He is finished and saved out of A:M v13.0k. All of his textures overlap on edge patches, so if you want you can create an alpha that bleeds the edges of the overlaping edge. This is determined by the order of the stamps in the decals. Stamps are all named, so you will have no confusion there. I copied all the flattened action keys to poses so you can re-apply the textures if you want to do that... also I've kept all of my groups and selections in the model to easily get to the parts you need to edit or change. He doesn't have feet attached to his body, the boots are seperate from the body.
Thanks to all who are interested...
IN THE FUTURE:
I may make the next version with controls to change facial features and also body shape and size.

Several of the words at the end of Woots dialog run together, so you could overlap them slightly- so the mouth never closes to abbruptly... Actually you could do the "W" phoneme for "TO KNOW". I like the look off to the side, while talking. He's trying to find the words?

It's kind of symmetrical right now... but she IS surprised!

Isn't this posing a little symmetrical? You might want to have him twist a little or have one leg forward or back so he could step into it or he could rear back the shoulders. I don't see the weight of this bulky guy yet. I know this is only the start so it does get the idea of the scene across. There is so much to be done yet.
