After you import the Prop, you can put it in a Chor and model new splines there, I recall.

Drag the Prop into a Chor.

Create a new empty Model and drag that into the Chor.

Select the Shortcut to Model, then choose Modeling Model to begin editing the Model with new splines.

Snap to Surface (Shift + 9), which attempts to place new CPs on the surface of a Prop or other object already in the Chor was made for endeavors such as yours.

OK so this worked great, I can see the .stl model and it manipulates quite nicely with 30,000 polys which is surprising.  I've dragged the new model into the chor. after doing what you said.  How do I actually start modeling?  I don't see "Choose Modeling Model" to begin editing.  I'm confused.  lol

This is absolutely HUGE!  Thank you!  I was loading and then spinning around the model eye balling it.

  3. So I got a new Shining 3D EinScan scanner and the models are much more complex, in the range of a million polys.  Very smooth and detailed and orders of magnitude larger than my old scans with the Xbox Kinect.  So I'm trying to load the 3D files (mostly scans of automotive parts I replicate) and it will initially load, say it's around 1.4 million polys and then go to 30% and never load.  I've left it for over 3 hours and it never loads, but doesn't crash.

What is the limitation of importing OBJ or STL files to AM from the plugins utility?

    Thanks!

v19 will be the last for Macintosh support.

A v19.5 is being tested for Windows.

Rob, should I buy the disk version?  If this will be the last version I'd be crushed.  It's my favorite modeler.  I export into Blender for finishing but AM is still the best modeler IMO.  If in the future it's gone I may get the disk version.

So... how about just copying it from old computer to new computer?

I cleared out my downloads and other "non essential" files because I had run out of space.  The 3D scan files from the EinStar 3D scanner are gigantic.  I create aero parts for automotive and I scan them with the Scanner.  Dump those scans into Blender, and then export them into AM.  AM is still my favorite modeler by far,

So when I got the laptop I deleted a ton of stuff from the Desktop.  Doh!

I don't know about the dev status of the plugin-in, but a model you make in v19.5 can be loaded into and exported from v19.0 if that is where the export plugin still works.

I'm speaking of the Blender specific plugin.  The plugin allowed you to import into Blender and export out of Blender.  The import into Blender link is live and still functions.  The export from Blender link is dead.  :(

Does anyone still have it?  Can you email it to me?  Please.  :)

  7. Guys, I have downloaded a new install of AM onto a new laptop and tried downloading the plugin again.  When I install the importer shows up but the exporter no longer shows up.  When I go to the download link for the Blender to AM exporter it says the link is dead.

Does anyone still have this tool?  I use it quite a bit and would be crippled without it.  I'd pay the dev for it gladly.

    Thanks

  8. I have three models overlapping and I want to select only the CPs of one of them so I can scale it.  So basically, how do I select all the CPs in a particular object?  I know noob question, and I've searched the forum but it only gives me threads with hitting Cntrol+A to select all the CPs in the scene.

    Thanks

    Hurray!

If you could post a picture of the relevant control panel, and explain what you did different (since you had looked at it before) that would be useful for future generations.

For those with space mice it's easy.  Open the 3D connection control panel while AM is open.  You'll notice that the control panel now says Animation Master.  Now you can choose by checking the small boxes next to push, pull, rotate, etc how you'd like the view window to behave and how the object will move.  Goof around with settings that feel good.  You'll then notice a slider for each setting.  These are usually pretty high but AM seems to be super sensitive to the Space Mouse.  So I cranked them down and presto, everything now moves very nicely.  IMO the Space Mouse is an invaluable tool in AM and Sketchup.

I have used my 3d Space Mouse before but it was always just fun to use but not extremly helpful ;).
I'll give it another try on the weekend maybe.

I got it!  I had the sensitivity in the 3Dconnextion app cracked up.  Oh man, this is so good now.  Thankjs

    Got it now?

Yes, thank you!  Now I'm trying to figure out how to load my Blender OBJ models into Hash to edit as the tools are just must easier.

Is there a Space Mouse control panel? Like my Optimouse mouse has to program its extra buttons?

Here's a list of Space Mouse threads...

Yes, there is a control panel and I've turned down all the settings for sensitivity.  The issue seems to be AM as it does not respond to sensitivity changes in the SpaceMouse commander software.

  13. Hello everyone, back after a long illness and very happy to be working in AM again.  I got a beautiful SpaceMouse Pro wireless and it works incredibly in Maya and Blender.  I see that AM19 has a check box for the Space Mouse which is AWESOME!!!  But it's so sensitive that if I move it a micron the model fly off into infinity.  Way way way more sensitive than other 3D programs.  How do I tone down the sensitivity of the Space Mouse in AM?  Thanks!

  14. So the DVD file doesn't get updated to the latest version?  I just bought the sub for this year and haven't gotten my download link yet, it's been an hour.  When will I get the link?  I may just buy the $300 version, but not if it is not the latest version.  Can you help?
