  1. i remember reading somewhere in A:M's tech reference book, the you could assign a prop to a model (but i can't remember what the function was called or what page it was on). that kinda sounds like the 'conform to' function in poser 7 which assigns clothing and props such as swords to a specific part of the loaded character.

to make a long story short, how to i assign props to models in A:M? could i do the same thing with clothes as well as props?

    thanx

  2. in some of my renders, the final image will have a yellow spot in it. It happens to me randomly with any model, any chor anything. For some reason it just drops this little yellow spot in front of the character.

it is a very dibilitating and annoying issue. can any body help me fix this?

    thanx

  3. i'm not sure if this is 100% true, but i found that using an actual photo for a facemask on a character is better than painting one in photoshop or whatever. upon doing some research and looking at some high resolution 3d characters, it appears that they use high res photographs for texturing. i've tried going to stock photo websites to find images, but the results are not so good. does any body know where i can find or purchase high res images for 3d characters?

  4. I was looking into getting another computer and I was debating whether or not it should be a Mac or a PC.

I created all of my A:M models (.mdl) using a Windows XP computer. If I wanted to buy a Mac, and transfer my .mdl files to it, would they still be compatible? Would they be able to open on the Mac?

    Thanx,

  5. all of my models use the same body and unfortunately they are all the same height. when i change the size of the model in the model window and pose her later, she poses incorrectly. i'm guessing it's becuase while splines change, the skeleton stays the same size. how do i change the model size and resize the skeleton at the same time?

  6. that's a good idea. i'll post an image later because i'm still working on the most recent rendition of my model. might take me a while to post however. should i post one of my older models? ( i don't like the way they look as much)

  7. this is good for only four months of work dude, good job :) i have humanoid figures too, but they're not animated yet.

i'd also like to thank robcat too i believe he came along for quite a few of my topics (plus many other people; Rodney, Caroline, heyvern there were so many but you know who you are so thanx everybody :)

  8. i know this sounds stupid but as many times as i've been to this website, i can't figure out how to make an image appear under my name in the forum post area. i have an image on my page but some people have an image under their name every time the they post a comment. i just wanted to know how you do that, i can't find a setting for it anywhere.

  9. i have managed to collect some nice hair and eye textures from all of the poser characters i used to download, but as far as other things such as textures for clothes, buildings, cars and other non-human things i am lost as to where to go to find that. do any of you know any good websites that supply textures (especially for clothes) for cg?

    thanx

  10. i was just wondering this because i saw a picture in one of the AM manuals where they had done this with a smiley face and some particle hairs laid out on a flat plain. I know in the particle hair settings there's a drop down menu to apply an image to each individual strand (am i describing this right?), but that's not what i want to do because while that looks nice, i'm trying to apply one image to the entire mass of hair as a whole and not one image on each strand. i feel applying the image one time on the entire mass would look nicer.

is this confusing  i'm sorry i don't know how to explain this any better than this but if needed i will clarify upon request.

  11. i was fooling around with some skin texturing in A:M and i can't get it to look photoreal. Can A:M produce photo real graphics or do i need to invest in another program?

i have seen some amazing images done with A:M so maybe it's the images i am using. if it's me and not the program what could you all recommend to me to make the skin textures look more realistic?

  12. i like the particle system don't get me wrong but for me it slows down the program considerably. render time is also very slow. it's good enough but it isn't very versatile in the way of spikes or other hairstyles like that.

i was wondering how do you model hair? i'm not sure where to even begin. any ideas?

    -hisako :)

  13. Usually when applying particle hair i assign groups of patches for the hair to go on the head. But with this one model, it applies the hair underneath the head (it puts the hair on the inside and not on the top of the scalp <_< ). i tried even assigning it one patch at a time and it still didn't work. I went to the grooming mode and tried to brush it to the top... no success there either. Is there anyway I can stop the hair system from applying the hair to the underside of the scalp? (it's very annoying considering i can't model hair yet).

Maybe i should just model hair (if you guys recommend it, then i'll have another topic post)

  14. i have all three programs; DAZ, Poser 7 and A:M. I believe A:M can create the effects of poser or daz it all depends on what type of decals you use for the model (skin texture, skin bump maps etc). I have also found poser to be a great library of textures that i use on my models in A:M (if you go into Poser's runtime folder you can find all of the images they used to make the poser models. I took some skin samples from some of the images and used them as patch images.

as for creativity A:M beats Poser and DAZ (i think everybody else said that but i recommend A:M highly). In Poser or DAZ you get preset models that you can change a little bit (it's fun for a while). But with A:M you basically get to play God. You can create whatever comes to your mind as long as you can find the time to do so. but whatever you do, it takes 'time.' I myself am working on the graphics of what poser seems to capture in their models, and i still haven't found it yet (had the program for 7 months and been working very hard for 5). but the key is to never give up. i believe to keep working for your goal until you accomplish it; and the reward is satisfying.

  15. i have the non-shift particle hair on my character's head and every time i move them in the relationship/pose area, the hair doesn't move with them. i tried moving the hair with the groom brush and it worked, but it lost its original shape. is this the only way to move particle hair or is there another way? (is there a way to assign bones?)

  16. i read in the A:M instruction manual that you can shape the hairs in the particle system using the timeline, but every time i have the hair system up, i don't see where in the timeline to do so.

which category in the hair system menu do i click on? (did i phrase this right?)

  17. I think the problem could be in your transparency map. If you post your project we can take a look.

okay here's some shots of my project (images and model)

do i actually need to bring the project file or is this good enough?

  18. i have this square that i was experimenting putting hair on. I added a bump and a trasnparancy but when i render it, the whole top part of the shape gets cut off.

maybe i should stick to the particle system, but i don't think it can make ponytails and braids effectively (am i wrong?)

here is the image of the hair square. does anybody know what my problem is?
