Alien

Well, I am hard at work on the next segment of my 'Bella Bear' Saga which involves the alien character. So I thought I would show him to you. He (it?) was originally modeled ages ago, but I have only just rigged and textured him - might have OD'ed on the spots... I thought I would try a bit of GI and Ambient Occlusion on him but it still looks a bit flat - not to good at that sort of stuff (yet). Anyway here he is, comments welcome and expected

Hey Guys, I've been trying to upload this TV spot off and on this past year at Hash Films and have been unsuccessful. I just thought I would share it here... Here's the info on this spot and a link to the movie. This commercial has won many awards and is also being repackaged as part of the new Keep America Beautiful campaign for next year. The commercial was based on a sticker the Ad agency gave me. We had a week to make this spot. My choice of software to use to make the deadline...Animation Master. Compositing was done with After Effects. LitterMan Commercial Litter-Man – Do Something! Commercial for the State of Arkansas …

Here's a final render of the company holiday greeting I had in the WIP forum. This render uses the h.264 codec so you may need QT player 7 to see it. Turn on your speakers! This is what we still need to accomplish: Keep it at good quality but at or about 3megs; be able to email it in a format that won't be blocked by firewalls (my boss is concerned that many of the law firms who are our customers have firewalls that block .mov files but not .avi files. I'm not sure if this is true or not but it's how she feels) settle on a format that is viewable by as many people as possible (therefore h.264 maybe a problem). enable it to play right in the emai…

that I did for my church, it was one of the times I really enjoyed going to an activity (maybe it was the good feeling, or the animation, or the ego petting afterwords, not sure which). Anyway, it was mostly made with A:M, more as a presentation than an animation, but I think you'll agree that it's entertaining and has a good message. By the way, sorry about the narrator, he sometimes forgot how to read

Run & Dive

Hey guys, well it's been a while since I put myself through a speed test. Since I have this new character to mess around with, I thought I'd put something together. I literally put this together in 20.min. I used a run cycle that I previously made, put a path in, then animated the dive in the cho. window. Don't know if there is anything more I will do to it, even though I know there's all sorts of stuff to adjust..... Hey hashers, Like the announcer in the show says "Voltron was needed once more..." so I had to model him. I learned so much about mechanical modelling by tackling this. Now I've got to learn organic modelling and I'll feel like I know what I'm doing. I had to keep it quiet for the last few weeks since he was in the Image Contest. I think it took me about 20 hours or so, working a little bit each night over a week. Each Lion has separate models for their own legs so the lions can easily come apart and stand on their own. Also, I've never rigged anything complicated so I gave it the most basic skeleton -- just so I can move it around, it's so basic it…

Here’s another one possibly for Hash Films guys… This is a Terminix scoreboard animation that was for the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies. The animation has been featured at the Grizzlies home turf at the FedEX forum in Memphis, Tennessee. It was also recently used in Anaheim, California for the NHL’s Mighty Ducks. I modeled, rigged and animated the spider in Animation Master. Yet another project to keep me from getting enough sleep...but lot's of fun nonetheless. This idea for a series was one I suggested as a project for the Atlanta AM User's Group. The idea was to use marshmallows as the characters and have all sorts of horrible and hilariously funny things happen to them "by accident". We would call the series the "Marshmallow Safety Films". Being such vulnerable creations, accidents are pretty easy to come by. Colin Freeman took a first crack at modeling one of the characters while I developed several story boards. Shortly thereafter Colin had to focus the Egyptian project he was doing at IBM, and we have not gotten the group togethe…

Well, I know it's been a while since I've been really visible on the boards, but I just wanted to show you guys some things I've been working on. First off, I was inspired by the Batman Animated series to create this 4 minute animation that I posted on youtube: Here's a quick environment test I did afterwards: Next is a test I did involving the Batman animated series style again. This time, I imagined what the "Knightfall" Jean Paul Valley batman would look like in this style. [attachmentid=21318] I also made models of The Riddler and Robin from the Animated Series. Not only do Piggies have long memories, they are impatient. Johnl3d picked on the wrong porker: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?s=&am...st&p=183392 So while John's on vacation (he should be back monday), I decided to welcome him back in absentia & release my evilness into the wild. Hi all! Here is a clip of Shaggy riding a tandem bicycle that I modeled. (it still needs chain rings and a chain, but I couldn't wait). The tandem is rigged such that when you translate it, it automatically spins the wheels and pedals. Learned how to use expressions on this one. A cool feature. Enjoy, Scott Shaggy_Rides.mov

So I got inspired by another thread and dinked for about an hour to put this together. [attachmentid=21884] It brings up something we've discussed in other threads for Tin Woodman, reflection and how to make it better in darkly lit situations. Yves is working on solutions (I think) but I wanted to get input on things that might improve reflection in AM and get input on this guy as well ;-) The thing I find I miss most is a reflective color. Is there a way to do this and I'm just missing it? One thing that kills metals is when they reflect to much color from the environment if they have color themselves, like gold or brass or copper. The other thi…

I've started some tests for this animated Holiday Greeting for my company. The render I'm posting is a very preliminary test and I'm posting it because there's quite a bit of pixelation in the ornament at bottom right. I've tried rendering both as QT and AVI, and gone as high as nine passes to try to remedy it. Also changed my driver from Open GL to Direct3D v8, and nothing's helped. Comments appreciated! Gerry

Here are a couple of tests for the rigging on my pocket Bataille cutout guy-thing. I had been struggling to get a little bend in the paper cutout of his body and failed--the tape "holding" the wire to the paper kept slipping. In one experiment I had a bit of success by having one bone connected to the cps I wanted moved, but having another bone--an FK parent of the cp bone--do the motion. But, upon trying that I realized that the paper needs to be pretty rigid anyway, and that its motion would be better conveyed through y-axis rotation than actual folding/bending. These are rough, just tests. Oh, and for the record, in the first one that is sort of a salute into …

My brother dropped off the two DVD's of Animusic..(check google video's if you are not familiar). Anyway after watchin them for awhile I thought a version of this could be done with AM to some degree if we set up an instrument to act the same way a character is set up to talk and use a dope sheet to play the notes. This was just an idea and I threw this slient idea using just simple on-off poses (no dope sheet) to demo how a very simple version might animate simple [attachmentid=21652] John PS went to my 40th high school reunion yesterday evening ...had trouble figuring out who all the old people were that showed up simple.mov

Hi all! This thread will, hopefully, document the development of my series that I've been working on for years and years. I've been drawing these grape characters most of my life and I had a storyline that I tried on many occasions to draw/model and animate. As hard as I tried, nothing really "clicked" with me. Until two weeks ago. I was sketching a grape character and suddenly had a Breakthrough moment when I adjusted the porportions of the generic grape person and had a drawing that clicked with me. And then I had a rush of inspiration of the world that these characters live in and its history. It was as if all these ideas were just under the surface and waiting for…

This has been on AM Films for some time, but I recently updated it to include the title and credits. (This expanded it to 6M instead of the posted 4M, so be warned.): Marshmallow Lecter It features a marshmallow character I designed for a series of short films in the works I call the "Marshmallow Safety Films". Being rather vulnerable, it's rather easy to invent many kinds of humorous "accidents" for them to experience. Not much action in this one. More of an exercise in lip syncing, based on Jason Osipa's excellent methods from his book "Stop Staring--Facial Modeling and Animation Done Right". (I very highly recommend this book! A must have for anyone …
