So things have changed in my neck of the woods and parking costs are really starting to bite into my income, even with the reduced amount that I actually have to be at the office. I've been thinking about taking the train but that adds at least an 1 to 1.5 hours to my commute. It would be nice to be able to do something animation or art related with that time instead of reading, sleeping, or playing around with my phone. Is there any viability to running AM on a windows virtual machine on a high-end Android tablet? Something with a Tegra 3 or 4 maybe? I would just use my laptop, but without a tray table or something to put it on (not available on the…

I know this probably has been discussed here before but I have a question. I want to know how I can achieve a 2d like look and cartoon look to and for animation in Hash(God I hope that made sense)? This is far off but I want to do an animated movie or short down the line and I want the color scheme of something like anime or the Saturday morning cartoon look(Batman the animated series or Titan A.E). Thanks for your help in advance.

I purchased the latest update for A:M and ran the installer program. Hash sent me the access code after they processed the payment. The installer appeared to do something because the settings got set to the default conditions. I expected that the program would ask for the access code and do some process to renew the license, but that has not happened and now the system says that the license expired. What am I missing? It is probably something pretty basic because I have updated the system in prior years without any problem. Does anyone have have an idea of what I should do?

Hello appreciated people of this forum!! I was researching about Anzovin's Training Videos here in the forum, and I read they are free to share here in the community... so I was wondering if they were uploaded somewhere... and if not, I was wondering in they could be uploaded in Low Quality for someone here, at least, to have the information they are teaching there, no matter if they wouldn't look so good... I have been compressing some videos with a software called BENCOS, and it compresses a lot the videos without take off too much quality... I've been compressing with a relation 1Mb / 1Minute video + size of audio track at 32 kbps, that's to say, a video of 6…

I'm not sure this is actually news as Apple hasn't supported/updated Quicktime for Windows in a long time but... some folks are even recommending an uninstall to avoid exploits that might take advantage of the static code and critical flaws. Ref: LINK The bigger question becomes one of what format to use instead of .MOV format when that is a primary format for A:M (at least the 32bit version). According to a recent Ruetuers report even the US government has an opinion: The warning does not apply to QuickTime for Apple's Mac computers.

I ran across this short video and thought... that sure looks like it was designed as a showcase for a renderer... and sure enough it is. What I didn't guess is that the renderer is open source with an MIT license. The short is... very short so check it out: [vimeo]92172277[/vimeo] Direct Link The appleseed renderer is currently in Alpha testing: http://appleseedhq.net/

While looking for information on the Rhino House video player I saw this article on animating quadroped walks. Lots of good reference and things to consider in a very short article. http://www.rocket5studios.com/tutorials/ap...he-walk-cycles/ Among other things it illustrates how an 8 cycle animation can have 4 key poses.

From the folks behind Animation Mentor (Bobby Beck, Shawn Kelly and Carlos Beana) comes a new online collaboration platform; Artella. There's not a lot of info at present but the Artella FAQs suggest the goal is to make it something of a GITHUB for creative projects. One of the primary motivations appears to be that many folks want to get involved in creative projects but not everyone can do that for a living (i.e. there are only so many paying jobs to go around). What do you do with all that knowledge and experience? How do you keep from losing motivation? What exactly do you do with your talent? Additional info: - Creators maintain all rights to their project…

Bottom line up front: Everyone needs some type of video capture software. There are a lot of screen capture programs and utilities out there and each one has it'd pros and cons. There are so many in fact that I've debated running something of a comparison in order to highlight some of the options. But... since such a comparison will take considerable time and a lot of information is already available via a quick google... for now I'll just point to yet another of the options. Atomi Active Presenter is a program that I don't recall highlighting and it is one of the more powerful ones out there because in addition to screen/video capture it also has some basic vi…

Well, now having used the replacement Animation Master v15 DVD since last February, I am hoping to get the offered non-expiring, Animation Master ver. 19 at the trade show price of $99.99 , as you offered last Jan.-February. Is there now a version 20 or is that included in the non-expiring terms? I have unable to build a new machine in 2020. If I install it on the old laptop and later uninstall it and install on the new machine, will that work or is it one machine per life? The old laptop uses a software version of OpenGL, will that work for now? It works (slowly) on other software. What do I need to do to get Ver. 19 at the offered price. An email was sent earlie…

Autodesk has gobbled up yet another company. This time the makers of the Arnold renderer, Solid Angle. Here's an interview delving into the decision to sell to Autodesk (the owner and originator of the Arnold renderer) courtesy of MIke Seymour at FXguide: https://www.fxguide.com/featured/autodesk-buys-arnold-2/ Two primary takeaways: - This will be the first time Autodesk has an in house high end renderer (other renderers have been licensed. Ex: Mental Ray/NVidia) - According to the article "Rendering is certainly one of the hottest areas in 3D right now". This no doubt ties in with Autodesk's longer term plans for render in the cloud. Recent deals l…

Of possible interest... As of April of this year Autodesk released Toxik (now named Composite) and MatchMover which runs on Linux, Mac and Windows 64bit for free. Composite is a node based video/image compositor. As the UI isn't exactly intuitive I highly recommend reviewing all available videos and tutorials BEFORE diving in. The learning curve is a bit steep and the UI doesn't always react in accordance with the tutorials. Aside: I'm not aware of any way to access the custom channels created for the EXR format but that doesn't mean it can't be done. Accessing standard RGBA channels is straightforward enough. MatchMover is a 2D/3D tracker for …

Hey forum, long time no see ... Today I was looking for the ultra cool old game trailers from Avalanche Software... especially the one for "Rampage" (which blew my mind back then and led to the decision to try out AM and starting with animation) but it seems that everything they did back then has vanished from the interwebz. So, if you know where to find their stuff - it would be greatly appreciated

Avalanche Software that was shuttered by Disney after they closed their gaming divisions is back in business again under the Warner Brothers banner. Interestingly enough, their first major project is a Disney property; the 'Cars 3' game. http://www.polygon.com/2017/1/24/14371888/cars-3-video-game-avalanche-software-warner-bros I'm not surprised. Their breadth of experience and talent.is substantial and has been since their early days of using Animation:Master. The downside? If Avalanche at Disney had 300 employees they now have approx. 100 and while it can be assumed that some of the 200 stayed at Disney in some capacity most had to seek other opportunities…

Reaquainting myself with AM. Currently using AM 64 bit v19 on Windows 10. Way back I used to use MOV a lot. Since 64bit does not support outputing to MOV I am using AVI YUV at a output setting of 1024 X 768 (or larger) for a quick prview test. When I use Quicktime the movie inspector feature of QT shows only a max of 728 X 476 resolution. This applies to VLC as well. Cannot find anywhere that AVI is limited to that resolution or that AM is limiting it. What s up with AVI? Help.

Hello esteemed Spliners! I am working on getting 'game-ready' assets out of A:M- hoping to get them into Snapchat, and have made good use of Gerald's(Fuchur) 'A:M to Unity' video tutorial where models and actions are exported from A:M to Ultimate Unwrap via the .X file format... and as always I figure that Sketchfab is a great place to view, test and share your UU exported FBX file. However- I am finding that when I employ my 'Bake Surface' option in A:M- it looks good there but in Sketchfab I see overspill or some anomoly that I would like to lose or lessen. Take a look here at my Sketchfab model with animations: https://skfb.ly/6JSDM Latest rev: https://skf…

My kind of fun... from Disney: vco0SpSz17g This certainly isn't everyone's cup of tea but there are some themes that are core to capturing the imagination of a youthful spirit. Such themes of creativity and invention... righteous empowerment even.. and the other naive curiosities that inspire us when young are often set aside as we enter adulthood. Returning to such timeless fascinations is why we watch movies in the first place.

I'm staring at a dilemma that seems to resolve around the necessity of including bitmaps (for decals, backgrounds, etc.) and am actively searching for a solution to set aside or exclude bitmaps from the general workflow. Now, this isn't to suggest that bitmaps would not be a part of the project workflow at all but rather to set them aside for a time to optimize the given workflow. As an example, let's say we have a system where the use of only text files is the norm and is preferred. Let us also assume that text-based image formats (SVG and base-32/base-64,etc.*) aren't ideal either although additional development might allow for them, especially the latter as they …

Robert Taylor, long time animator, artist and director from Terrytoons in the 60s to Ralph Bakshi's "Fritz the Cat" in the 70s to Disney's "Duck Tales" and "Goof Troop" in the 90s and even a spell as director of our very own "Tin Woodsman of OZ" movie, has died, I learned on Facebook this evening. I am sorry to hear that although I knew he was not well for a long time. I enjoyed the brief chance to work with him here and wish we could have done more with him. Somewhere around the Hash site is a Frankenstein short he did with A:M in the very early days. Maybe someone can find a link to that?

I'm toying with giving the Body Mechanics Boot Camp another try after the holidays. It would be a free class where you learn some basic character animation essentials. The curriculum might be something like -Bouncing Ball -Broad Jump -Weight shift -Side Step -Generic Walk It would need about three or four interested people who have the spare time to work on the exercises and who could all meet once a week at the same time on Skype.

Hey Guys just wanted to know if Boolean cutting is now working with geometry or we still doing it the old way with bones and showing only when its rendering ? What I mean by geometry is that can objects be subtracted with boolean cutter and the patches get cut by AM - so its a solid cut and not faux via render only - would be really good for STL and 3D printing . . .

This is a SIGGRAPH presentation on how the body deforms during breathing as applied to animated characters/avatars. Perhaps a bit more technical than routinely necessary... still, it contains some information especially useful for those striving to create 'realistic' performances.
